GAA injury scheme claims process
This is the text of a letter to the Club Secretary, Alan Sweeny, from Ciara Clarke of Coyle Hamilton Willis, outlining the operation of the GAA injury scheme claims process
We are writing with reference to the supporting documentation that is required for claims submitted under the GAA injury scheme.
Below we have detailed the relevant documentation required depending upon the particular claim type. We hope that this will assist you in ensuring that the claimant has the necessary information before forwarding the claim form to us and perhaps help you to answer his queries regarding the claims process.
For all claims regardless of claim type we require:
- A fully completed and signed Claim Form, We no longer require a copy of the Referee's report if both you and the County Secretary confirm on the Claim Form that the Claimant was injured as a result of participating in an officially sanctioned game or training session.
For medical / dental claims we require the following additional documentation:
- Medical receipts (Not invoices).
- If the claimant has other medical insurance such as VIVAS / VHI / BUPA / Garda Medical Aid - please forward a statement of account detailing his claim under it / them.
For loss of wages claims we require the following additional documentation:
- Three recent payslips dated prior to the date of injury (confirming the claimant's basic nett weekly pay)
- If self-employed, please provide a letter from his Accountant detailing the nett basic earnings for the three months prior to the injury
- If a substitute worker has been employed please forward a letter from the Accountant confirming the cost of the substitute worker
Please ensure that all relevant sections are fully completed and that the claimant and the club secretary have signed the claim form before forwarding it to the County Secretary
Where the claimant may not be in a position to provide full details of the claim, for example where treatment is on-going, do not delay the submission of the claim form. Send it to us immediately, completed insofar as possible.
