Patrick Meehan, Cillian Doyle, Thomas Patton, James Kelly and Nathan McGarrigle all gave particularly good accounts of themselves in strong all-round team performance. On Monday night the team traveled to Derrygonnelly and won resoundingly with a scoreline 11-10 to 2-2. Aodh Ruadh played an intelligent game in the cold, wet conditions with crisp passing and first-time football the order of the day. Box. APRIL
4 April

Our senior and reserve teams will be in action again this Saturday evening, see separate section for fixtures. In addition to losing against St. Eunans on Sunday, the seniors also lost the services of Thomas McPhelim to a hamstring injury. It is hoped to see him back in action very soon. The reserves managed a har-fought draw against the same opposition with Shane McShea in sparkling form while the third team easily accounted for Four Masters on Saturday evening. The thirds have a free weekend this weekend.

Barry Travers has been appointed reserve team manager for the forthcoming season. He will be assisted by Maurice McLaughlin and John Travers. They are wished well for the forthcoming season, on the basis of Sunday past, there is potential in the squad for a good 2006.

Thanks to all who assisted in carrying out stewarding, catering and general duties for the staging of the Longford game on Tuesday evening at short notice. It would be fair to say that the club again met expectations when it comes to staging big matches and the pitch was in the best condition possible given the recent poor weather. Well done to the ground staff.

It is with some dismay that the club has still failed to come up with somebody to fill the position of part-time coaching officer given that it is a paid position for people satisfying the relevant Dept. of Social Affairs criteria. If you or anyone you know in Ballyshannon or surrounding areas is interested contact Tom Daly immediately at 071 98 52595.

Training for u-10s continues this Saturday at 11am sharp in Munday's field.

The u-12's tasted defeat for the first time this season when they travelled to Dungloe last Saturday. Aodh Ruadh went down on a scoreline of 4-1 to 5-10. On the scoresheet for the Ballyshannon team were Jonathan Gethins with a goal and point, and Paddy Gillespie, Dominic Boyle and James Kelly with a goal each. There was a different story when Aodh Ruadh traveled to take on Naomh Conall on Monday night. The team put in a stirring effort all over the pitch, running out good winners on a 2-9 to 1-3 scoreline. Alan Finan along with Eamon McGrath and PJ Gillespie in the half back line kept scoring opportunities for the Glenties side to a minimum. Meanwhile Fergal Meehan and Pauric Patton were prominent in attack, along with Colm Kelly and Jonathan Gethins who made their chances count when they came their way. Jonathan Gethins top-scored for Aodh Ruadh with 1-2 and was ran close by Colm Kelly who picked of four fine points. Fergal Meehan got in on the action with a well-worked goal and Charlie Patton and Pauric Patton each came away with a point a piece.

All our adult football teams have a free weekend this weekend. Our seniors drew while our reserves won having made the long trip north to Malin on Saturday evening last. Thanks to all who made the trip to support the players. Barry Ward has been made senior team captain for the year.

110 club members were posted three tickets for the forthcoming county board draw in February. Many of these people have not returned their tickets, could they please do so immediately as a matter of courtesy. It is unfair to other club members to have to make repeated calls to get back these tickets, return them now. On that note, a number of club memberships, both adult and underage, are outstanding. These must be paid to Terence McShea without further delay.

The club's progress in cultural matters and Scor was acknowledged at the county ceili in Muff last Friday night when Aodh Ruadh picked up the non Gaeltacht club of the year. This was based on the club's recent performances in Scor na nOg and an evening of music for National Schools in the area organised in March last which was very successful.

Substantial information on the fixture schedule for the year for our adult football and hurling teams is available on our club website, www.aodhruadh.org full unedited club notes will also appear on this site on a weekly basis.

There is u-10 training today, Thursday at 6.30pm. There will be no session this Saturday, the next session will be next Thursday at 6.30pm.

The u-12s recorded another impressive victory on Monday night when they beat Saint Nauls by 5-3 to 2-4. The defensive unit of Eamon McGrath, Thomas Anderson and Darren Gethins, PJ Gillespie, Alan Finan and Kieran Keown worked hard to keep the strong Saint Nauls challenge at bay. Up front, Jonathan Gethins was top-scorer for the third game in a row with 2-1. Also on the score sheet were Fergal Meehan with two goals, David McGurrin with 1-1 and Thomas Hughes who picked off a point. Colm Kelly also played his heart out. The next action for the u-12s is against Killybegs in Fr Tierney Park on Monday night. There is training on Friday at 6.30pm in Munday's field.

The u-14s are training tomorrow, Friday from 4-6pm and again on Tuesday from 4-6pm.

Senior girls training continues every Wednesday at 7pm. The senior had a very convincing league win over Downings at the weekend as they aim to pick up where they left off last season.

The minor hurlers have started their league campaign well with recent victories over Setanta and McCumhaills. This is the club`s first minor hurling team in 10 years.

The senior hurlers played three useful challenge games against Four Masters (twice) and Na Magha of Derry recently. The Ulster senior club hurling league and Co. Donegal hurling league games commence over the next few weeks. In fact, our hurlers are away to Ballymachugh this Saturday evening with a 6.30pm throw-in in the Ulster senior club hurling league.

There is u-10 training today, Thursday, at 6.30pm and on Saturday at 11am.

Aodh Ruadh u-12s took on Killybegs in Fr Tierney Park on Monday night. Aodh Ruadh lost out by a point in a low scoring game where the defences were on top. A downpour in the middle of the match made for heavy underfoot conditions which were unfavourable for attacking football. That said, it was yet another impressive display from the defensive unit of Eamon McGrath, Thomas Anderson, Darren Gethins, PJ Gillespie, Alan Finan and Kieran Keown. James Barron had his best game at midfield to date and was well partnered by Shane O'Donnell. Jonathan Gethins grabbed a goal whilst David McGurrin picked off the two points. Next up are Ardara at home on Monday night. There is u-12 training on Friday at 6.30pm in Munday's field.

U-12 table-toppers, Ardara were the visitors at Fr Tierney Park on Monday night. However they only managed to leave Ballyshannon with a point as the teams drew 3-7 a piece in a close-fought encounter. Aodh Ruadh turned in a brilliant 15 man performance playing with heart, courage and commitment well beyond their years. It was next to impossible to pick out a man of the match, but Kieran Keown gave an outstanding performance at right half back, which exemplified the kind of spirit Aodh Ruadh played with. Kieran got on the scoresheet with a fine point from a 45. Once again Jonathan Gethins was top scorer, this time clocking up 1-2. David McGurrin took 3 points, one from a free. Colm Kelly and Pauric Patton each grabbed a goal a piece whilst Fergal Meehan also scored a point. Next up are Four Masters at home on Monday night. There is u-12 training on Wednesday at 6.30pm and on Friday again at 6.30pm.

The u-14s had mixed fortunes in Féile Peil na nÓg in Donegal town last Saturday. Some soft goals cost the team against Bundoran as they were pipped by a few points. However they powered back with renewed determination against Four Masters in the next and earned a well deserved win. The day's exertions told against Killybegs though, and Aodh Ruadh did not progress further. There were a number of encouraging displays throughout the tournament: Peter Boyle was excellent at full forward as was Luke Toland at half forward. Patrick Meehan gave a very robust display at full back and Cillian Doyle also showed strongly. The u-14s travel to Kinlough tomorrow, Friday, for a match. Training is at Tuesday from 4pm.

The Aodh Ruadh u-16 hurlers captured the Alan Ryan trophy for the second year in a row when they defeated McCumhaills in the final of the Alan Ryan/Seamus Grimes Annual u-16 hurling tournament on Monday 1st May which was played in the Park and in Munday`s Field. Outstanding players for Aodh Ruadh were Cian Dolan, Paul Hughes and Ciaran Kilgannon and the management team consisted of Kevin Loughlin, Anthony Coughlin, Dennis Doherty, Peter O`Keeffe and Johnny Dolan.

Martin `Kerry` Ryan presented the Alan Ryan Cup on behalf of the Ryan family to Aodh Ruadh captain Paul Hughes and Kathleen Grimes presented the Seamus Grimes memorial trophy to the Manorhamilton team. McCumhaills won the Erne Dale Shield. Hurling Chairman John Larkin thanked all who helped to make the tournament such a success on a glorious Bank Holiday May Day, including the team mentors, park officials, sponsors and the group of ladies who prepared the food and refreshments.

Four Masters u-12s made the short trip down the N15 to Ballyshannon on Monday night. Aodh Ruadh were in no mood to be neighbourly though, as they took the spoils with a well-earned 4-5 1-8 victory. Four Masters had improved greatly since the teams first encountered each other at the start of the league. The Donegal town team's back line, in particular, was much strengthened. However an accomplished and disciplined team effort by Aodh Ruadh was sufficient to carry the day. Matthew Gettins at corner back gave a superb display of football in the first half and just shaded it as the man of the match overall. The title of top scorer was shared between Jonathan Gethins with 2-0 and David McGurrin with 1-3. James Barron capped a manly performance with a point. Fergal Meehan and PJ Gillespie also got on the scoresheet, Fergal with a goal and PJ with a point. Next up are Dungloe at home on Monday night. The u-16s had a disappointing loss to Dungloe in their penultimate league fixture. The next action for the team is against Ardara in the championship. The first leg game takes places at 7.30pm tomorrow, Friday, in Father Tierney Park. Support makes a big difference at this grade of football and we would appeal to anyone who can make it to go along and get behind the team. Parents are especially encouraged to turn out and lend their voices to the cause. The final league fixture against Naomh Conall may possibly be played next week; the panel will be notified should there be any developments. Training continues next Wednesday at 6pm.

Aodh Ruadh minors recorded a 2-09 to 0-15 draw with a much-fancied Naomh Bríd side last Wednesday. Nine months of hard training finally paid off with the Ballyshannon men turning in a fine all-round performance. The full back unit of Eunan McCosker, Michael Ward and Damien Carey all had outstanding games, as had Darren Drummond at centre half back. Donagh McIntyre and Matthew Thompson battled hard at midfield paving the way for the forwards to do the damage in front of the posts. Jason Kane, Nicky Sheerin and Diarmuid McInerney, in particular, gave terrific displays in the forwards. The next engagement for the minors is away to Four Masters next Wednesday. The game against Dungloe which was to have been played yesterday has been rescheduled for 12 May. Training continues on Mondays and Thursdays at 8pm.

The u-10s had a great weekend of football. The blitz in Ardara was the first of the season and the "A" team took time to find their rhythm, but came good towards the end of the competition. However a blistering third quarter by Dungloe did all the damage as the Aodh Ruadh defence was caught napping on a number of occasions. The Ernesiders came back in the final quarter, but time ran out on them and the game finished with Dungloe winning on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-9. The club staged the PJ Roper u-16 tournament last Saturday. Participating in the tournament along with Aodh Ruadh were Naomh Conall, Melvin Gaels and Grange. The event was blessed by good weather, although a strong, steady breeze also played its part in the day's proceedings. After an exciting morning and early afternoon featuring some great football, Grange and Aodh Ruadh came through the round robins to contest the final. Aodh Ruadh stayed in contention throughout the first half against a Grange team which had won all its round robin games. A goal for Aodh Ruadh shortly after half time meant there was just a point between the teams, however the Sligo men made good use of the prevailing wind down the pitch to pull away and clinch the PJ Roper trophy.

Aodh Ruadh's Barry Leonard at fullback took the award for player of the tournament. The club would like to extend their thanks to Naomh Conall, Melvin Gaels and Grange for attending, to those who officiated the matches at such short notice, to those who provided the refreshments and to all those who gave of their time and effort to make the event such a success. The final score of 4-10 to 2-08 was testament to the trojan effort put in all over the pitch.

Jonathan Gethins maintained his prodigious scoring record with a haul of 3-2. He was followed in the scoring stakes by David McGurrin who took five points, two from frees. David was also instrumental in a number of the goals. Jamie McDonald, Fergal Meehan and Matthew Gettins all chipped in with a point apiece whilst Niall Doherty came on to grab a stylishly executed goal.

The next action for the u-12s is next Monday with a trip to Ardara. Training continues on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6.30pm.

Aodh Ruadh would like to wish Creevy National School the very best of luck when they take on Kilcar in the Cumman na mBunscoil Quarter Final today.

Our u-14s lost out to Bundoran by six points last Wednesday. Martin Larkin in defence and Gerard Kelly in midfield were Aodh Ruadh's best performers in a game were the team were under pressure in many sectors of the park. The u-14s had the third game of their League campaign last night away to Dungloe; however the result came too late for print deadlines. The next action for the u-14s is away to Four Masters at 7.30pm. Training continues on Fridays at 5pm.

The minors lost to Four Masters last Wednesday, ending their involvement in the league. The next action for the minors will come in mid-July when they will play either Killybegs or Dungloe in the first round of the championship. Training continues on Mondays and Thursdays at 8pm.

With the action at full tilt on the pitches around the county it is timely to remind players that there are details of the club's GAA player's injury claim scheme on the website, www.aodhruadh.org. Just follow the "Administration" menu item in the left column.

Our senior and reserve sides find themselves with another free weekend coming up, thethird team will be aiming to bounce back from last weekend's defeat to St Nauls when they travel to Ardara on Saturday evening next.

The hurlers are at home on Saturday evening to Carndonagh in the league.

Fr Tierney Park and Munday's field will be at full capacity this Saturday as teams from Aodh Ruadh, Bundoran, Killybegs and Erne Gaels compete in the Mick Shannon u-10 memorial tournament. Play begins on both Fr Tierney Park and Munday's Field at 11am, with action scheduled to be wrapped up by 4pm. All help and support is welcome and would be much appreciated. U-10 training continues today, Thursday, at 6.30pm.

The u-12s made the long trip to table toppers Ardara on Monday night. The trip proved fruitless as the Ernesiders went down by a solitary point on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-6. It was a ferociously fought contest with Aodh Ruadh showing a never-say-die spirit. Scores were very hard to come by for both sides and a strong breeze also contributed to a tight, tense affair. David McGurrin gave a man of the match performance scoring 1-4. His goal was a well-executed penalty which helped bring Aodh Ruadh back into the game at a stage when they were four or five points down. Matthew Gettins maintained his fine finish to the season with a goal. Niall Doherty came of the bench to take a point. James Barron also raided up from midfield to put over a point. Aodh Ruadh takes on Killybegs tomorrow, Friday, in the catch up game. The game should get under way around 6.15pm in Killybegs.

Aodh Ruadh u-14s traveled to Dungloe last Wednesday. It was a game the Ballyshannon lads dominated, carrying a seven point lead into the closing stages of the match. However, Dungloe fought back hard and managed to tie the game up for a share of the points. The final score Dungloe 3-10, Aodh Ruadh 2-13. Peter Boyle gave an exhibition of point scoring from both play and frees at full forward and also managed to add a goal to his score tally. Ronan Drummond and Ben McGowan excelled in the backs whilst corner forwards Kenneth McDonagh and Niall Murray also gave super performances in front of the posts. The team was in action again last Sunday against St Theresa's of Belfast on Sunday in Bundoran. They won the game after a tough, sporting contest. The u-14s played Four Masters last night; however the result came too late for print deadlines. Aodh Ruadh host Kilcar next Wednesday at 7.30pm. Training continues on Fridays at 5pm.

Pictures of action from the PJ Roper Final, including an impressive shot of Peter 'The Cat' Boyle pulling off a fine save, have been posted on the club website www.aodhruadh.org. Apologies for the delay.

There will be a club meeting on Wednesday next, June 28th at 9.30pm. The club is taking orders right away for tickets for the July 9th Ulster finals, regardless of venue. Orders can be placed with Terence McShea or Jimmy Gallagher right away.

Aodh Ruadh hosted Erne Gaels, Bundoran and Killybegs at their annual Mick Shannon u-10 tournament last Saturday. Aodh Ruadh took on Killybegs in the "A" final. Killybegs got the best possible start with a goal shortly after the throw in. A second followed after a period of sustained Killybegs pressure. Aodh Ruadh came more into the game and goaled before the half time break. The second half was a very tense and nervy affair. Killybegs got the only score of the half, a goal, and this proved to be the insurance score that saw them secure the Mick Shannon "A" Trophy. Killybegs also contested the "B" final against Bundoran. As in the "A" final, Killybegs went into a two goal lead. Bundoran fought back with a goal from Aoibheann Granaghan. However Bundoran were unable to find an equaliser and Killybegs made it a one-two, triumphing in both the A and B sections of the Mick Shannon Tournament. Aodh Ruadh extends their sincere thanks to the participating teams, to those who officiated the matches, those who provided the refreshments, the stewards and to all those who gave of their time and effort to make the event such a success. Details and pictures of the tournament are available on the Aodh Ruadh website (www.aodhruadh.org).

U-10 training continues today, Thursday, at 6.30pm and Saturday at 11am.

The u-12's concluded their league fixtures for the year in Killybegs last Friday. Aodh Ruadh lost, but the result was immaterial and not an accurate reflection of what has been a hugely encouraging season at this grade. The team gave of their all throughout the year and had a result or two gone their way they could have progressed into the play-offs. The fact that they gave the eventual table-toppers, Ardara, their two hardest games this year, drawing one and losing by a point in the other, is indicative of just how strong this team is and the potential it possesses. The team had a very enjoyable outing to Clones last Sunday with a squad of 33 leaving Ballyshannon on what was to prove a fantastic day for Donegal's minor and senior footballers.

The final feature in the u-12 calendar this year is the Willie Rogers Tournament. Expect more news on this in the very near future.

Aodh Ruadh u-14's recorded an impressive 1-13 to 2-5 victory away to Four Masters last Wednesday to take themselves to the top of the u-14 League table. Aodh Ruadh players put in magnificent performances all round the park. Peter Boyle enjoyed considerable success against the Donegal town defence at full forward and Killian Doyle also gave a notable performance at centre half forward. Gerard Kelly went through an ocean of work at midfield whilst Ronan Drummond and Tommy Patton starred in a defence which allowed Four Master only seven scores. The team played Kilcar last night; however the result came too late for print deadlines. The next action for the u-14's is in Father Tierney Park against Killybegs next Wednesday at 7.30pm. Training continues on Fridays at 5pm.

Minor training continues on Mondays and Thursdays at 8pm.

Someone has borrowed a picture of the 1910-12 hurling team from Aras Aoidh Ruadh. We would be most grateful if the picture could be returned at the person's earliest convenience.

Our seniors recorded an impressive away win against Ardara on Saturday evening last winning out by 0-14 v 0-9. Michael Ward made a return to action while Thomas McPhelim and Pauric Buggy were also back in the action after lengthy lay-offs. The reserves lost to the same opposition while the third team lost to Kilcar in Towney on Sunday afternoon by two points. Unfortunately, there are no fixtures for any of our adult football teams this weekend.

The club is taking orders right away for tickets for the July 9th Ulster finals in Croke Park. Orders can be placed with Terence McShea, Mick McGrath (Bridgend), Mary Matthews (Shannon's Corner) or Jimmy Gallagher. Throw-in for the senior match is at 2.15pm, the minor match between Donegal and Antrim gets underway at 12.30pm. Ticket prices are €25/£18 Adult, €5/£3 Juvenile or €15/£10 Terrace.

Our hurlers were scheduled to face Burt last night, Wednesday at 8.00pm. The result was too late for print deadlines. The hurlers travel to Banagher this Saturday for the quarter-final of the Ulster club hurling quarter-final. They face Bredagh of Co Down.

There is a meeting of the Bord na nÓg committee in Aras Aoidh Ruadh on Wednesday, 5th July at 9pm. All committee members are asked to attend.

U-10 training continues today, Thursday, at 6.30pm. Aodh Ruadh host a Go Games blitz in Ballyshannon this Saturday. All u-10 players are asked to be at Fr Tierney Park by 11am. St Nauls will be the guests at this blitz. Action is scheduled to get underway at 11.30pm with both the Park and Munday's field in use until 2pm.

The u-12's had a satisfying end to their season with victory in the Willie Rogers Tournament last Saturday. Participating in the tournament along with Aodh Ruadh were Erne Gaels and Grange. Aodh Ruadh took on Erne Gaels in the final. The Gaels began the final meaning business forcing the Aodh Ruadh keeper into a great reaction save which went over for a point. With Erne Gaels defending wonderfully, Aodh Ruadh struggled to find the mark, they eventually opened their scoring with a well taken goal. This was followed almost immediately by a second Aodh Ruadh goal and shortly later by a point. A number of Belleek scoring opportunities were spurned in the period that followed and they were duly punished when a break down the field resulted in a goal for Aodh Ruadh before half-time.

Erne Gaels rejoined the battle in earnest after the break mounting attack after attack; however the Aodh Ruadh backs were playing brilliantly. Having weathered this storm Aodh Ruadh broke up the field and narrowly missed a goal chance. Erne Gaels took this opportunity to mount a quick attack and came away with a point. After this the teams matched each score for score. A goal and a point for Aodh Ruadh were answered by a goal and a point from Erne Gaels. When the final whistle had gone Aodh Ruadh had secured the Willie Rogers trophy on a scoreline of 4-3 to 2-3. Aodh Ruadh would like to extend their sincere thanks to the participating teams, to those who officiated the matches, those who provided the refreshments, the stewards and to all those who gave of their time and effort to make the event such a success. Details of the tournament and pictures are available on the Aodh Ruadh website (www.aodhruadh.org).

Aodh Ruadh u-14's had an healthy victory against Kilcar in the park last Wednesday. There were fine performances all over the pitch, but Peter Boyle, Ronan Drummond Gerard Kelly and Ben McGowan gave great accounts of themselves. Niall Murray caused Kilcar a lot of problems, scoring a goal in each half. Luke Toland excelled as well and also grabbed himself a few goals. The match against Killybegs scheduled for last night was called off. The next action for the u-14's is in Fr Tierney Park against Naomh Bríd next Wednesday at 7.30pm. Training continues on Fridays at 5pm.

Minor training continues on Mondays and Thursdays at 8pm.

However, in the Ulster hurling league, Aodh Ruadh lost out to Down side, Bredagh having put up a gallant fight. John Rooney's charges led by one point at the interval. Final score 1-15 to 1-8. After a long wait, our club senior and reserve sides are in championship action in Fr Tierney Park on Sunday afternoon. The senior match against Malin gets underway at 3pm, Trevor McBrearty is the match referee. Aodh Ruadh were victorious over Melvin Gaels in a challenge match on Friday night with Barry Travers charging forward from defence to score a memorable late point. It is hoped to have a fully fit panel of players available for Sunday's big match, Seamus Kane, Brian Roper and Michael Ward all missed the game against the Leitrim opposition.

The reserve championship match gets underway at 1.30pm, Cornelius Diver is the match referee. Your support for both teams would be appreciated in an attempt to buck the recent trends of pathetic support levels for our adult football teams. Any assistance which can be provided in terms of stewarding etc would be appreciated.

There was bitter disappointment for our senior side on Sunday last losing by a point to Malin in the championship. However, the home and away Donegal championship structure means Aodh Ruadh are still firmly in the championship needing a win in Inishowen in a game which has not yet been fixed. The reserves did manage a win, some inspired substitutions late on proving crucial.

Both seniors and reserves are in action against Kilcar in Ballyshannon this Sunday, throw-in times are 3pm and 1.30pm respectively. The third team play their first round, first leg championship match at home to Convoy on Saturday evening at 7.30pm, all support appreciated.

The minor hurlers qualified for the County Minor A Hurling Final with a narrow 2 point victory over Burt last Thursday in Tir Chonaill Park, Donegal Town.

Leading by a point at half time, the Ernesiders increased their lead early in the second half and were 5 points up with time running out. Then, Burt came right back into it with a late goal and the game was closely contested right up to the final whistle.

The Aodh Ruadh team was ; Ryan O`Brien, Dominic Gillespie, Darren Gillespie, Brian Fox, Stephen Ryan, Cian Dolan, Peadar O`Keeffe, Darren Drummond, Chris Kilgannon, Diarmaid McInerney, Gary Loughlin, Ciaran Kilgannon, Liam Cullen, Gary O`Brien, Eugene Gallagher, Donal O`Keeffe.

Well done to club hurlers, Johnny Dolan, Anthony Coughlan and Peter Horan who are members of the Donegal squad which qualified for the Nicky Rackard Cup final in Croke Park. Major progress is also being made at u-16 and minor hurling grades, the minor hurlers recorded another good win last week.

The lotto jackpot continues to grow, tickets available from all usual outlets, it is now well over €11,000 and represents the club's main fund-raising activity.

The u-10 Blitz scheduled for Mountcharles this Saturday has been cancelled due to the county being in quarter-final action in Croke Park. It will not be rescheduled and u-10 training has concluded for the summer. The next action at u-10 level will be the Jimmy Likely league, which will kick-off when school recommences in September. Check club notes for further information nearer the time.

The u-14's progressed to the first round of the championship proper with an excellent win over Four Masters in Donegal Town last Friday. A scoreline of 2-7 to 1-6 was good enough to see the Ernesiders through to a clash with St Nauls on Wednesday week in Mountcharles. Aodh Ruadh held the advantage from the first leg in a close fought affair where defences were to the fore. Conor Patton in goals, Cillian Doyle at full back and Ronan Drummond at centre half back were resolute in the face of a spirited Four Masters attack. Up front, Peter Boyle at full forward was economical with the opportunities that came his way, making them count against a dogged Donegal defence. Training continues on Fridays at 5pm.

Minor training continues as usual on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm.

The reserves play Killybegs at 6pm, Connie Doherty is match referee, the senior match will go ahead at 7.30pm with Robbie O'Donnell the match official.

The senior ladies are out of the championship having lost to Four Masters on Sunday. The girls put up a very good fight right to the end but experience stood to the homeside to come away with a win. A word of thanks is due to Barry Ward and Teddy Kane for all their efforts in training and preparation.

The u-14's have had a very congested programme of fixtures over the past week. Last Friday they took on Killybegs with the aim of securing second place in the table. A confident display of football saw the Ballyshannon lads run out six point winners with Stephen Clarke, Peter Boyle, Tommy Patton and Gerard Kelly all giving particularly good accounts of themselves. This victory sets up a tie with Bundoran to see who progress to the county semi-finals as divisional champions. The team was in action again on Monday night, this time against St Nauls in the first round of the championship. It was a rare off-day with the after-effects of the tough game against Killybegs evident. Some profligacy in attack in the first half did not help Aodh Ruadh's cause either. Aodh Ruadh lost by three points. Fortunately this championship is a two legged affair and St Naul's have to travel to Fr Tierney Park this Friday to try and close out the tie. With Aodh Ruadh aiming to win and force a play-off a big show of support would be much appreciated and could prove an important factor in closing stages of the game. Throw-in on Friday, is at 7pm. There was bitterdisappointment for our senior footballers in Malin on Sunday last as they exited the championship in the first round. The reserves also lost but are in a playoff match in Lifford this Saturday evening at 6.30pm, training continues at the usual times, anyone unable to attend should contact Barry Travers. A word of thanks to the sizeable Aodh Ruadh support which travelled to Malin.

The third team are also in championship action this weekend, they face Four Masters at Pairc Naomh Brid at 2pm on Sunday.

The senior footballers were scheduled to travel to Killybegs for a league fixture on Tuesday night, the hurlers were in action in the championship against Setanta last night, (Wednesday) needing a win in Donegal Town.

There is a meeting of the Bord na nÓg committee in Aras Aoidh Ruadh on Wednesday, 6th September at 9pm. All committee members are asked to attend.

Dunshaughlin u-8's and u-10's come to Ballyshannon on Saturday, September 9th. With games starting at 11am, all u-8's and u-10's are asked to be at the Park for 10.30am. The Jimmy Likely League is scheduled for the following Saturday, September 16th. Again, action commences at 11am and players are asked to be at the Park for 10.30am.

Aodh Ruadh u-14's were the beneficiaries of a last gasp goal against St Naul's last Wednesday to maintain their challenge for championship honours. They needed a win to force a play-off to progress to the next round. Heading into the last seconds of the match, Aodh Ruadh were a point down and applying serious pressure to the St Naul's goal when Peter Boyle broke through with a chance on goal. The keeper made a great stop from Boyle, but the ball came back out to Gary Carty and he lost no time in slotting the ball to the net. In an absorbing game, Aodh Ruadh players stood up and were counted all over the park, with Nathan McGarrigle in particular giving a great performance at wing back. There is little rest for the u-14's. They took on Bundoran in the Southern Divisional League Final in Ballintra on Tuesday night with the result of that fixture deciding who they face in the county league semi-finals. The county semi-finals take place tomorrow, Friday. Venues and times are yet to be decided. U-14 training continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5pm.

The minors hosted Killybegs in Fr Tierney last night, Wednesday. They needed a win to ensure their further participation in the minor championship, after losing in the first leg. The result of the second leg game came too late for print deadlines. A fantastic team performance from the minors proved insufficient against Killybegs in the first leg game last Wednesday week. Matthew Thompson and Donagh McIntyre gave fine performances at midfield whilst Nicky Sheerin, Jason Kane and Diarmuid McInerney shone in the forwards, picking off a number of quality scores. The half back unit of Stephen McGrath, Stephen Bradley and Kieran Slevin produced some slick phases of football.

Camogie training continues every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30. All newcomers welcome. The club will be taking part in a tournament this weekend in Killygordon but details will be given to players at training.

Both senior and reserve sides recorded league wins at the weekend over Glenfin (away) and Four Masters (home) respectively. There are no games for any of our adult football teams this weekend.

Fifteen footballs were stolen from a locker in the storeroom on Tuesday night last. The thieves broke both the main door and the locker door, the club would ask all members to be on the lookout for footballs marked with the club name being used anywhere other than the club grounds. In the interests of the club, Aodh Ruadh would also ask members to report any suspicious activity in the club grounds after dark. This is the second substantial theft of footballs in recent years.

The u-10's travel to a tournament in Killybegs this Saturday 16th September. The bus leaves Fr Tierney Park at 9.30am.

The u-13's lost in a fractious encounter in Ardara, which was heavily affected by a strong breeze. Aodh Ruadh were well on top in the first half, going in a goal up at the break. However they played into the breeze in the second half and scores proved very difficult to come by. Nonetheless the game was still in the balance going into the final quarter. Ardara became more robust in this stage of the contest and this helped them over the line, running out winner on a scoreline of 2-13 to 2-4. Ronan McGurrin weighed in with the bulk of Aodh Ruadh's score taking 2-1. Ruairí Drummond, Martin Larkin and Fergal Meehan did well in unfavourable conditions for attacking football, getting a point each. Best wishes are extended to Pauric Patton who sustained an injury in the closing stages of the match. Pauric's cousin, Conor Patton, is also wished a speedy recovery. The u-13's are in next in action against Bundoran in Fr Tierney Park at 11.30pm this Saturday.

The u-14 first round championship play-off against St Nauls was postponed last Wednesday due to a waterlogged pitch. A new date has yet to be set for the fixture. The winners will play Milford in the league final. U-14 training continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5pm on the nights when there are no matches.

Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon the minor hurlers embark on an exciting campaign which will last until mid November when they play in the top flight of the Ulster minor league, they are away to Kevin Lynchs of Dungiven in the first round this Saturday. Throw-in is at 12noon. Manager Kevin Loughlin asks for good support for both teams.

The Jimmy Likely league takes place this Saturday. All u-10 panelists should be at the park for 10.30am with action commencing at 11am.

St Eunans overpowered Aodh Ruadh in the county league semi-final last Saturday in Donegal town. The u-14 first round championship play-off against St Nauls took place in Ballintra last night. The result came too late for print deadlines, but if the Ballyshannon lads were successful they were due to be thrust back into championship action very quickly, facing Naomh Conall in the semi-final tomorrow, Friday, at 6pm with the winner of that encounter taking on Bundoran in the final on Monday at 6pm.

The minor first round championship play-off against Killybegs has been rescheduled for this Saturday at 11am. No venue had been set at the time of writing. The winners of this fixture will go on to meet Four Masters in the semi-final

Minor training continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm.

The Senior hurlers completed their League programme with a victory over Carndonagh in Crossroads and a draw against McCumhaills in McCumhaill Park last Sunday. The score against McCumhails was Aodh Ruadh 0-10 McCumhails 1-7.

At one stage of the second half, Aodh Ruadh were six points behind but a gritty comeback resulted in an honourable draw. There were fine performances from John Rooney, Thomas Gallagher, Dennis Doherty, Chris Kilgannon, Gary Loughlin, Johnny Dolan, Kieran Breslin, Peter Horan, Michael Bowring, Patrick McGarrigle, J. Timoney, Paul Cassidy, Ciaran Kilgannon, Anthony Bowring, David Downey and Anthony Coughlin. Mentors on the line were Kevin Loughlin, Billy Finn and Conal Gallagher.

The third team is through to the county final for the third consecutive year following their five point win over Robert Emmetts on Sunday last. They now face Glenfin in the county final on Sunday, October 8th in a game which is likely to precede the Junior "A" final between Naomh Brid and Robert Emmetts.

The reserves championship campaign ended on Sunday last when they went down by three points to Gweedore. It was a very disappointing end for Barry Travers' side, thanks to all who put in an effort with the side, in particular the management of Barry, Maurice McLaughlin, John Travers and Brendan Drummond.

The seniors will be hoping to build on their win against Four Masters this Saturday evening when they take on Killybegs in Fr. Tierney Park. Throw-in is at 5.30pm, Trevor McBrearty is the match referee.

There is a meeting of the Bord na nÓg committee in Aras Aoidh Ruadh on Wednesday, 4th October at 9pm. All committee members are asked to attend.

The Jimmy Likely league was contested last Saturday by teams captained by Conor McShea, Adam Irwin, John Ward and Garret Ferguson. The final was between Conor McShea's Mayo and Adam Irwin's Kerry. On this occasion the Mayo team came out on top in what was a markedly better game than that served up by their senior counterparts! This concludes the u-10 programme for the year. Training begins once again in the Mercy Hall on the first Friday of November.

The minors concluded their action for the year last Saturday with a disappointing defeat to Killybegs in the championship playoff. A lot of work has been put in by everyone concerned with the team. Preparation and training began last November and the team had been training three nights a week since January. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan last Saturday, but the team has shown massive improvement over the course of the year and there is real hope that Aodh Ruadh will be able to build on this in 2007.

The u-16 hurlers qualified for the County u-16 A final for the second year in a row with a nail-biting one point victory over McCumhaills in McCumhaill Park last Sunday. Aodh Ruadh trailed by a goal with time running out. Then, a point from Ciaran Kilgannon left 2 points between the teams. Aodh Ruadh were then awarded a free and Paul Hughes goaled to leave his team ahead by a point at the final whistle. It was hard luck on a gallant McCumhaills team and Aodh Ruadh now meet Burt in the county final. The final score was Aodh Ruadh 2-8, MacCumhaills 2-7 and the referee was John Joe Doherty, Carndonagh.

Donal O` Keeffe won the Ulster Finals of the u-12 hurling skills competition last week.

Paul Hughes and Peadar O` Keeffe have been selected on the Ulster Shinty squad to play a Scottish selection at Halloween

The u-12 O'Donnell league was played last Saturday. Teams captained by Thomas Anderson, James Barren, Conor McNeely and Shane O'Donnell competed for the cup, first presented to the club 25 years ago by O'Donnell Bakeries. James Barren and Shane O'Donnell's teams made it through to the final. Shane's team ran out victors and was presented with the trophy by Maireád Caldwell.

Congratulations to Alan Finan's team who won Bakery Cup in Colaiste Colmcille.

The club lotto jackpot continues to grow, tickets available from usual outlets, sellers and Kerry Ryan.

The u-14's went out of the championship last Friday with defeat to St Nauls. They were extremely unlucky to go down by a one point margin, with a last minute goal being disallowed. Peter Boyle put in great work at midfield whilst Ronan Drummond at centre half back and Niall Murray at corner-forward also gave good accounts of themselves in what proved to be the team's final competitive outing of the season. Thanks to the management and backroom team for the effort and commitment all season.

The u-10 hurling blitz was a great success on Sunday with teams from Aodh Ruadh, Four Masters and Manorhamilton participating in Fr Tierney Park. The Aodh O'Dalaigh Shield went to the winning captain, Brian Ward of Aodh Ruadh. The blitz was organised by John Rooney.

Four consecutive victories have propelled our senior side to third place in division 1A of the league. Following last Saturday's win over Malin, our seniors are at home to Ardara this Saturday at 5pm. Mickey Mulhern of St Eunan's is the referee. The reserve match is at 3.45, Kilcar's Cornelius Diver takes charge of that one.

Our third team must face Glenfin once more after they drew in last Sunday's junior "B" decider in Ballybofey. The date for the replay has yet to be fixed, the club would like to wish club stalwart, Gary Walsh well this weekend as prepares for an occasion just as important as the replay.

The u-16 hurlers captured the county A u-16 championship title for the second year in a row last Friday evening in MacCumhaill Park with a 7 point victory over Burt. This was a hard earned victory and the Ernesiders trailed by 6 points midway through the first half. A terrific goal following a solo run from Liam Cullen inspired the team and in the end, Aodh Ruadh proved to be worthy champions over a gallant Burt side which never gave in. Final score was Aodh Ruadh 2-8, Burt 2-1. The referee was Rory McGonagle of Sean MacCumhaills.

The minor hurlers lost out by a single point to St. Malachy`s, Portadown in the Ulster League on Sunday in Portadown. The team trailed for much of the game but staged a late rally to tie up the game with time running out.

However, a crucial free awarded to St. Malachy`s in the dying seconds resulted in the winning point. The game was played in a sporting manner and the Aodh Ruadh party were generously treated to welcome refreshments by the hospitable Portadown club.

The club lotto jackpot continues to grow and is now almost ?14,000, a prize well worth winning as Christmas approaches.

Our minor hurlers are at home to St Johns at midday on Saturday in division 1A of the Ulster minor hurling league. Overdue congratulations to Aiden Begley who was recently selected on the Nicky Rackard "Champion 15" for his consistent performances for the Donegal senior hurlers this season. Aiden will be presented with his award on November 18th in Croke Park.

Our third team lost out to a strong Glenfin challenge on Sunday last in Tir Chonaill Park, commiserations to the boys for all the work which has been put in, not only this season, but for the last number of years.

In spite of Saturday's defeat to St Eunan's, our senior team still lie second in division 1A of the all-county league, this weekend's series of results will be crucial in determining whether or not Aodh Ruadh qualify for a league semi-final.

The club lotto jackpot now stands at €14,400, a nice boost to anybody's coffers in the run-up to Christmas.

14 November

Gweedore's defeat of Malin on Sunday last effectively spelled the end of the road for our senior footballers with our chances of making a league semi-final being dashed. A sincere word of thanks to PJ McGowan and Peter Gallagher who put in a huge amount of effort and made a lot of personal sacrifice to manage our senior team in 2006.

Officer's reports for the club AGM are now overdue, club secretary, Alan Sweeny is awaiting return of same to alan@sweenys.ie as soon as possible. The AGM gets underway at 6pm on December 2nd.

A number of underage management positions will be vacant in the New Year. This represents a great opportunity for people interested in a particularly rewarding form of public activity to get involved with training and developing young people. Don't worry if you feel you don't have the necessary qualifications to take on the job. The club provides courses on coaching, first aid and child protection that should give any potential manager a great start in their career. If you think you would like to become involved in the underage setup, in whatever capacity, please come along to the Bord na nÓg AGM on Thursday 16th November a 8.30pm in Aras Aoidh Ruadh. The club AGM takes place this Saturday evening at Aras Aoidh Ruadh at 6pm. A full attendance of all club members is requested to discuss future developments in the club as we approach our centenary year in 2009. Nominations close on Wednesday evening, November 29th. All officer and team manager reports should have been e-mailed to Alan Sweeny at this stage.

The club would like to wish Mick McGrath well on his recent retirement from inter-county refereeing. Our Scor na nOg quiz team suffered a heartbreaking defeat in Glenfin on Sunday evening last when a last round comeback by Carndonagh denied them another county title and a chance to defend their Ulster title.
