Minors notch win over Bundoran

Under 14 football
22 March 2014
Aodh Ruadh 1-16
Bundoran 4-5
Gaelic Park, Bundoran

The minors were in action on Wednesday in their second game of the league. This time against old adversaries Bundoran. The Ballyshannon side were somewhat depleted with a number of the squad nursing injuries. A panel of just 17 made the short away trip.

Nevertheless, Aodh Ruadh made a blistering start to the game and were up by five points in as many minutes. Shane McGrath and Philip Patton scoring a brace with Eddie Lynch also getting on the score sheet. Indeed, Philip Patton struck a beautiful goal just minutes later after a sublime pass from Nathan Boyle, which left the Bundoran keeper helplessly stranded on his own.

It seemed the Ballyshannon men were going to have it all their own way but eventually Bundoran clawed their way back into the game. Two fortunate goals, one coming from the penalty spot, allowed the energetic Bundoran side some respite from the onslaught of the Ballyshannon attack and it finished 1-11 to 2-2 at half time.

Aodh Ruadh played against the breeze in the second half and managed to increase their lead to nine points with fifteen minutes remaining. Predictably, Bundoran raised their game as the Ernesiders began to wane and loose the fluidity that was evident at the start of the half. Bundoran scored two more goals to leave just two points between the teams in the dying minutes. Aodh Ruadh held on for a deserved victory but made hard work of a game that should have been sewn up by half time. The final score read Aodh Ruadh 1-16 Bundoran 4-5

Aodh Ruadh face Kilcar in their next game on Sunday in the park at 11am. All support much welcome.
