Aodh Ruadh secure top spot with convincing win

Under 16 football
18 July 2014
Aodh Ruadh 4-17
Naomh Muire 2-8
Father Tierney Park

The under 16s were 4-17 to 2-8 victors over Naomh Muire on Friday evening in Father Tierney Park. The game was a dead rubber for Naomh Muire as they were already confined to bottom place in the division, so the Annagry players and management deserve great credit for making the long trip and playing the fixture and giving over 40 players football. They gave the homesters a good test too in a game which was played in a good spirit. Shane McGrath and Daniel Warnock both stood out for the Ernesiders and got among the goals too, as did Cáelán Drummond. Shane Dorrian also proved a handful in the attack for an over-stretched Annagry rearguard. Defensively it was very disciplined display with Ryan McKenna, Cian McGloin, Brendan Gillespie and Jason Granaghan. Ballyshannon now top the Southern Minor Board division one table and await the result of Tuesday evening's clash between Naomh Conaill and Dungloe to determine who their opponents will be in the Southern semi-final.
