Ballyshannon grind their way to Junior B Final

Junior "B" Championship Semi-Final
24 September 2006
Aodh Ruadh 1-9
Robert Emmetts 0-7
Sean Perry reports from MacCumhaill Park

A well taken first half goal off the boot of Gary Anderson proved crucial as Aodh Ruadh laboured to put away the challenge of Robert Emmett's in MacCumhaill Park on Sunday afternoon.

Anderson was in sparkling form in the first half, he helped himself to 1-3 in total as his side moved into a 5 point lead at the break.

David Downey's quality fielding caused trouble for the Castlefinn club in defence, it was Downey who provided the assist for Anderson's goal after 20 minutes.

Robert Emmett's relied on full-forward, Gavin McNulty for the majority of their scores and when the Ballyshannon club missed a penalty and were denied by a super save in a two minute spell midway through the second half, the Castlefinn men were spurred into life realising there was time to claw their way back into the game.

Former All-Star and All-Ireland medal winner, Gary Walsh drew on all his experience to make a number of great saves late in the game, Diarmuid Keon and wingback, Johnny Dolan tagged on points for the Ballyshannon men to ensure they're back in the Junior B county final again, eager to make amends for last year's defeat to Gaoth Dobhair.

There they'll meet Glenfin in the final on Sunday week.
