Club AGM
The Aodh Ruadh AGM took place virtually on Sunday. Almost 50 logged on as we looked back on a successful 2020, crowned by our senior footballers' intermediate championship victory, and made plans for the coming season. Detailed reports were submitted by all sub-committees and these were followed by an address from club chairman William Doogan, reflecting on what had been an unusual and at times difficult season, and thanking all those who had played a role in steering the club successfully through the various challenges created by the coronavirus pandemic.
Motions were then considered. Motion one, permitting an extension of the three-year term for the club chair person was passed on to a workshop in January for further debate and consideration. Likewise, Motion two, relating to the establishment of a third adult football team was passed on to the January workshop.
The AGM then proceeded to the election of officers with the following posts being filled. Patrons: Father Ó Fearrai and Canon McGroarty; President: Owen Roe O'Neill; Vice Presidents: Peter Conlon, PJ Buggy, John Magee, Michael McLoone, Tom Gallagher, John Murphy and Alan Kane; Chairman: William Doogan; Vice-Chairman: Diarmaid Keon; Secretary: Lisa McTernan; Assistant Secretary: Vacant; Treasurer: Sabrina Brosnan; Assistant Treasurer: Vacant; PRO: John Hughes; Oifigeach na Gaeilge: Vacant; Substitute County Board Delegates: John Travers; Health and Well-being Officer: Philip McLoone; Child Protection Officer: Paul Touhy. Coaching Officer: Packie McGrath and Brian Gillespie. Also voted onto the committee on the evening were those present at the AGM, with allowance made for further members to be appointed at the January executive meeting.
Congratulations and best wishes to all those who have taken up a post for 2021. The club extends its gratitude to those outgoing officers, John Rooney, Patricia Hill, Kathleen McGarrigle and Conal Gallagher who have stepped down from posts after working hard for the club over the past season and beyond.

Ladies
The senior, minor and under 16 ladies are planning to take part in a festive 5k on Saturday, 28th December as a fundraiser for the coming season while adhering to HSE guidelines. Our ladies will doubtless get plenty of socially distanced preparation in ahead the 5K! There are even whispers that some of the coaches will put on a Santa hat and complete the 5km too, with one coach boasting that he has three marathons under his belt so it would be a walk in the park for him! Please support the ladies as generously as you can with their sponsorship cards.

Bingo is back!
We are delighted to confirm that Drive-in Bingo will return this Friday night at the back Market Yard car park, Ballyshannon. We’ll continue from where we left off, so car park will be attended and books being sold from 6pm onwards for a first game start at 7pm. Books priced just €10. As the full event will run during darkness, it is advisable for players to bring additional lamps or torches for inside their cars, plus an extra layer if you don’t plan on leaving your engine running for heat! Looking forward to welcoming you all back on Friday! Beep beep!

Well done David!
Big congratulations to our own David McGurrin who, after 31 hours and 12 minutes of running - plus a few sore knees and ankles, has managed to run the virtual 271.1km from Limerick to Ballyshannon. David thanks everyone for all the donations and support over the past six weeks. His fund-raiser has pulled in nearly €3,500 for Connect Mental Health, and the GoFundMe page stays live until Sunday 8th December if there’s anybody who still wishes to donate to this great cause.

Premiership snowball
Last weekend saw the first weekend of game play in our Premiership Snowball competition. We had over 200 entrants, but that was quickly trimmed back after Leicester contrived to lose to Fulham on Monday evening accounting for 98 fallers, among them our secretary and our treasurer. On the upside our chairman is among the 62 entrants still standing as we head into game week two. This competition has been generously supporter by €500 in sponsorship from Colin at MR OIL MAN.

Last one standing
We had nine winners in our Last One Standing competition which was again very kindly sponsored by Liam Gallen of Mr Gs this year. The last ones standing were Niamh McGrath, Aisling and Jayden McGrath, Paul Bannon, Mike Lynch, Mark Tansey, Oisin Rooney, Diarmuid Doherty, Brendan Devane and Shane Harron. Well done all and thanks to everyone who entered the competition.

New playing surface for Father Tierney Park
It is planned to commence the construction of a new sand-based playing surface at Father Tierney Park in the early months of 2021. We are attempting to close a funding gap of about €50,000 to complete this project. Grant aid of €100,000 has already been secured and further funds are held in a ring-fenced account. All of the proceeds of the GAA National Draw which we are currently promoting will be held locally and go towards this major project which has long been a club priority. Tickets are €10 each and are in books of five. There is a magnificent array of prizes in the National Draw including a car and All-Ireland Ticket packages. A local draw confined to those who purchase tickets from the club is also taking place, again with an array of very attractive prizes. Books of tickets are already in circulation in the club area and further distribution to club members is continuing. All club members are asked to get behind this important fund-raising effort and play their part in ensuring this important development of club playing facilities is brought forward successfully. For further details contact Tom Daly, David McLoone or Michael Daly or any Aodh Ruadh member.

Club Calendar 2021
We are pleased to reveal the first ever Aodh Ruadh club calendar! The calendar features nearly all the club teams who took to the field last season, with pride of place to our IFC winning senior footballers. In addition, the calendar lists the 2021 bank holiday dates, moon phases and all that sort of horological jazz! Priced at €10, the calendar will be available in Kernan's SPAR, Pearse O'Neill's and A Novel Idea. Lisa McTernan is also taking orders if you want to drop her a line on 085-1061456. It's a perfect stocking filler and a lovely reminder of a successful, if strange, year for the club and local community.

Park / Development Committee AGM
This AGM was held in association with the club AGM. Comprehensive reports were circulated in advance of the meeting which was held virtually, due to the Covid 19 restrictions. Despite the challenges of 2020, a good programme of maintenance and development works were undertaken. Once again substantial funds were sourced to sustain all of this work. Details of the club's management of a major Community Employment Scheme were provided including audited accounts. All of the reports were unanimously adopted. Officers elected were as follows: Chairman, Tom Daly; Secretary, Conal Gallagher; Assistant Secretary, Philip McLoone; Treasurer, David McLoone; Assistant Treasurer, Patsy Kilgannon; PRO, Michael Daly.

Drive-in Bingo
Drive-in Bingo made a welcome return last Friday night despite the weather, although the players all seemed happy snuggled up in their cars! We are delighted to say that Bingo will be back again this Friday night at the same time of 7pm at the back Market Yard car park, Ballyshannon. Books will be sold from 6pm onwards. Spread the word, the more players, the bigger the prize fund!

Premiership snowball
The second week of our Premiership Snowball competition saw rather fewer fallers than our first week wipe-out, with only nine exiting the race. That means we still have 55 standing as the Snowball rolls into its third week. This competition has been generously supporter by €500 in sponsorship from Colin at MR OIL MAN.

Staying on county matters, we wish Kyle Murray, Cian Rooney and all in the Donegal minor squad and management the best of luck as they take on Tyrone in the Ulster Minor Football Championship quarter-final this Sunday in Ballybofey at 1pm.

Coming soon...
Very shortly we will be launching our inaugural 200k Coast to Coast Challenge. The Challenge will start in early January and will see participants virtually running, jogging or walking across Ireland, starting from Creevy Pier, Donegal and finishing up in Ardglass, County Down. This a 40-day challenge for all abilities to get your New Year off on the right foot! As this is a virtual event, it is Covid-safe and you can join us from anywhere in the world. It's going to be great craic and good for you too, so keep an eye on the club's social media for more information in the coming days.

Club Calendar 2021
Our club calendars have been selling exceptionally well since they were launched and we have had to do a second run. It's probably a good idea to get one picked up quick enough if you are planning to get one ahead of Christmas as a stocking filler. Priced at €10, the calendar should now be once again available in Kernan's SPAR, Pearse O'Neill's and A Novel Idea. Lisa McTernan is also taking orders if you want to drop her a line on 085-1061456. Hurling
The Juvenile Hurling Committee meeting met on Sunday evening and some new committee members elected for 2021. John Larkin was ratified as Chairman, Gregory Gallagher as Vice Chairman, Orla Bannon as Secretary and Teresa Davis as Lotto Co-ordinator. The remainder of the committee will be confirmed in the New Year. John Larkin started his term by sincerely thanking outgoing Chairman, John Rooney, and commending him for his many years of sterling service to hurling in Aodh Ruadh.

Football
Our commiserations to the Donegal minors on a hard fought one-point defeat to Tyrone. It ended Donegal 0-7 Tyrone 0-8 in MacCumhaill Park with Kyle Murray anchoring a miserly defence at full back. Congratulations to Maurice McLaughlin and his Fermanagh charges who defeated Down 0-10 to 1-4. They face Monaghan in the Ulster semi-finals.

National draw
The proceeds of the GAA National Draw we are promoting will be held locally and go towards the construction of a new sand-based playing surface at Father Tierney Park. Drive-in Bingo
We enjoyed a festive bingo last Friday with Mary B Kerrigan winning the spot prize Christmas hamper. There will be no bingo this week. We hope to return with Drive-In Bingo at the Market Yard at the earlier time of 3.30pm on New Year’s Day provided we remain in Level 3 restrictions. Watch this space! In the meantime, time we wish all our bingo goers a very merry Christmas and here’s to a much happier new year in 2021!

Premiership snowball
This Premiership snowball competition is really sorting the wheat from the chaff. After just four weeks we have gone from over 200 entrants to just three left standing. The players still in the hunt are Michael Ward, Roise McGrath and Jimmy Lorsen. This weekend's games could see the destination of the jackpot decided with three weeks to spare. Once again, we thank Colin at MR OIL MAN for his generous sponsorship of €500.

Nollaig shona
As a difficult year comes to a close, Aodh Ruadh wishes all associated with the club and everyone in the wider Ballyshannon community a happy, peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
