Camogie meeting
A reminder that an important meeting regarding the revival of camogie in the club will take place this Tuesday, 6th June, at 8pm in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. Everyone in the area interested in seeing camogie return should attend this gathering.

Football
Our senior and reserve footballers are back in Division 1 action weekend with Killybegs the guests in Ballyshannon this Saturday. The reserve game goes off at 5.30pm with the seniors throwing in at 7pm.

The Division 4 team chalked up their third victory in succession last Friday, getting the better of MacCumhaill's. In an open game of football the Ballyshannon men were somewhat profligate in front of the posts which made the contest competitive if somewhat frustrating. The highlight of the first half a rasper of a goal from full back Oisin Kerr. One point separated the teams for most of the second half with Aodh Ruadh making life hard for themselves, as it was the Shams stayed cool down the stretch for Cian McKenna to fire over two scores to seal it as it finished Aodh Ruadh 1-7 MacCumhaill's 0-6. Shane McGloin had another good hour in the full back line while Aonghus Sweeny battled well in midfield. Under 15 coach Barry Mulligan made a big impact when he came in with some eye-catching fetches and linked the play well. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O’Brien; Conor Foy, Oisin Kerr (1-0), Shane McGloin; Stephen McGrath, Chris Goan, Tiernan Dolan; Aonghus Sweeney, Diarmuid Flood-Dolan; Cian McKenna (0-2), Mardy McGarrigle (0-1), Jake Foley; Robbie Murphy (0-1), Kerry Ryan (0-2), Rory Gethins. Subs JJ Cassidy (1-0), Barry Mulligan, Ryan Daly.

Our under 15 boys had a hard-fought victory away to Bundoran on Friday night. The game was played in extreme heat, with both teams deserving applause for their efforts. It was two points each after the first quarter, in an even, low scoring contest. It remained close approaching half time, until a well worked Aodh Ruadh goal sent the Ballyshannon lads in at half time, four points to the good. The third quarter was again very low scoring, with Bundoran matching the visitors score for score. Aodh Ruadh closed out the game in the last quarter, holding the four-point lead at the final whistle, for a workmanlike win, 1-9 to 0-8. The squad train as normal Monday and Wednesday from 5.30 to 7pm, with our final division 2 Southern league match on Friday at home against Naomh Columba, with a 7pm throw-in.

Our under 11 White squad travelled to Mountcharles on Wednesday evening and acquitted themselves very well against a strong home team. The Green squad travelled to Ardara for the annual under 11 blitz on Bank Holiday Monday playing four games over the course of the day. Training continues as normal on Wednesday evening at 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

Well done to our under 9s who travelled to Donegal town for an enjoyable blitz in very summery conditions on Monday evening. The boys are back on their travels this Wednesday when Glenties will be the destination.

Hurling
The senior hurlers are due to return to competitive action on Wednesday, 14th June, against Monaghan outfit, Clontibret. This is part of the Cúchullain Cup where Aodh Ruadh are drawn in Group 3 against MacCumhaill's, Monaghan Harps, Clontibret and Tyrone side Tulach Óg. Aodh Ruadh will commence their senior championship programme with an away trip on Friday 16th June to take on Buncrana. Throw-in at Scarvey is down for 7.30pm.

Ladies football
The adult Aodh Ruadh ladies return to action this Sunday June 11th. Both sides are at home with the Division 1 game against Ardara getting the action under way at 10am, with the Division 3 game against Kilcar throwing it at 11.30am.

The under 14s hosted a very strong and physically imposing Dungloe side on Saturday. Aodh Ruadh were short a few key players, but the visitors were deserved winners on the day. Aodhba O'Donnell got through an immense amount of work in an over-taxed defence, while in the attack Faye Gillespie gave it her all. The team have a break this weekend before hosting Bundoran in Pairc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday 17th June.

Best of luck to the under 10s have a blitz this Wednesday, 7th June, in Donegal town.

Football
Aodh Ruadh hoisted themselves to third place in the Division 1 table with a polished 1-15 to 0-5 victory over Killybegs in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday afternoon. It took the homesters a while to hit their stride in this one with Conor Cunningham firing his side into the lead early on and Shane McGrath levelling matters five minutes later. Cunningham bumped the Fishermen back in front in the tenth minute, but again Aodh Ruadh levelled, Mark McGlynn doing the honours this time. Diarmaid McInerney then put Ballyshannon in front for the first time on the quarter-hour mark, but the visitors restored parity within the minute. The game's key moment arrived in the 20th minute when Cian Rooney opted to pass up a point scoring chance to make a run across the face of the Killybegs area and loop an audacious shot back across the goals and into the net. That made it 1-3 to 0-3 and from that point Aodh Ruadh took control of the contest. Diarmaid McInerney converted a free before Cian Rooney added another point. McInerney was on the mark again from another dead ball in the 26th minute, but this time Killybegs were able to muster an immediate response. Remarkably though, it was to be their last score for the next 35 minutes of football. A well-deserved point from Cookie O'Halloran brought the curtain down on the first half scoring with the home side leading 1-7 to 0-4. The second half was very much one-way traffic with the athleticism and power of Aodh Ruadh too much for the Fishermen on a humid evening by the Erne. Cian Rooney (2) and Shane McGrath notched points in the third quarter before Diarmaid McInerney landed his fourth free of the game going into the final quarter. Mark McGlynn then hit his second point before Peter Boyle came up to power over from 45 metres and Donagh McIntyre landed a mark. Boyle then wrapped up the Aodh Ruadh scoring on 60 minutes with an outrageous free from 50 metres. Killybegs did grab the game's last score two minutes into injury time, but Aodh Ruadh were full value for the two points at the final whistle. There were a number of strong displays across the squad in this game. Cian Rooney picked up where he left off against MacCumhaill's with real confidence in his play, while Shane McGrath is another man playing with renewed belief. Peter Boyle had to be strong under the high ball on a number of occasions and hit two brilliant frees, while Mark McGlynn, Gary Carty and Kyle Murray did a lot of effective ball carrying. Diarmaid McInerney was his usual ruthless self when it came to punishing free concessions in the opposition's scoring zone. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle (0-2f); Callum O'Halloran, Darren Drummond, Eoghan Kelly; Kyle Murray, Mark McGlynn (0-2), Niall Murray; Shane McGrath (0-2), Cian Dolan; Diarmaid McInerney (0-4f), Cian Rooney (1-3), Gary Carty; Eddie Lynch, Donagh McIntyre (0-1), Matt Gillespie. Subs: Colm McGloin on for Darren Drummond HT; David Dolan for Gary Carty 57 minutes; Michael Ward for Eoghan Kelly 58 minutes; Conor Patton for Mark McGlynn 62 minutes. We have a gallery of pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

Saturday's reserve fixture against Killybegs fell by the wayside.

Aodh Ruadh's Division 4 side made the short trip up the road to take on their neighbours in Ballintra on Sunday afternoon. The Ernesiders had a promising first quarter, however, the water break intervened and stemmed their momentum. On the resumption Aodh Ruadh missed some big chances to put the game away early on and were denied a penalty for foul on Cian McKenna. As it was Ballintra just about stayed in the game up to the interval. The hosts then put in a strong second half to lead by eight points at the second water break. Ballyshannon rallied and the frenetic closing stages saw them hit the post and two goal chances just go agonisingly over the bar for points. Naomh Bríd were able to keep their noses in front despite the heavy pressure and claimed a six-point win, 1-17 to 0-14 the final scoreline. The Aodh Ruadh team was as follows: Karl O'Brien; Shane McGloin, Oisin Kerr, Aidan Sweeny; Chris Goan, Dan Warnock, Ryan O’Brien; Odhran McGarrigle, Aonghus Sweeny; Darragh Flood Dolan, Diarmuid Flood Dolan, Damian Weber; Harry Howarth, Kerry Ryan, Cian McKenna.

Aodh Ruadh seniors are in league action again next Sunday when they will be away to Glenfin. It's an early start for the reserves of 12.30pm with the seniors throwing in at 2pm. The Division 4 team have a break this week, but are home to Dungloe the week following. Elsewhere, Aodh Ruadh learned their opening opponents in the Senior Championship draw last Thursday. In the first round they will make the short trip up the N15 to take on Four Masters, while in the second round they will be entertaining Gaoth Dobhair.

Our under 15 boys were due to play their final league match against Naomh Columba on Friday night, but unfortunately the Glen lads were unable to field. That left our boys top of the league table after six wins from six, and we now look forward to another battle with Naomh Mhuire in the divisional final. Fixed for this Friday, venue and time to be confirmed. We train as normal this week, Monday and Wednesday from 5.30pm to 7pm.

Under 11 training continues as normal on Monday and Wednesday evening at 5.45pm to 6.45pm. On Saturday the Green squad will travel to a blitz at Saint John's, Sligo and on Monday the White squad will be at home to Four Masters. Further details will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

Hurling
Aodh Ruadh will commence their senior championship programme with an away trip this Friday to take on Buncrana. Throw-in at Scarvey is down for 7.30pm.

After a short hiatus, the minors will be back training this week. Preparations will be in full swing for their upcoming County final against MacCumhaill's on June 29th.

The under 15s travelled to Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday morning to take on the Cavan County hurling team. The lads took a while to settle and the opposition took no prisoners in the first half. Aodh Ruadh went into the break two points down, but came back out explosively. They eventually ran out 4-18 to 2-9 winners, in what was a great team display. All members of the panel got precious game time and all were delighted to see William Ryan back in action after his lengthy injury.

The under 11s, under 9s and under 7s travelled to MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey on Sunday morning for a series of blitzes. There was lots of fun in the sun and all the coaches expressed their delight at the improvements amongst these young players.

On Saturday evening, all roads led to the Breesy Centre and the under 15 tea party for the most fashionable night of the year, so far. The glad rags were well and truly on show and the complimentary prosecco was flowing. The spread laid on by the u15 parents was a veritable treat with a huge selection of sandwiches, scones, tarts, tray bakes, buns and cream cakes. The under 15 players were exemplary waiters on the night and the hugely talented and much decorated, Daithi Sheerin, entertained on the accordion. There was a huge variety of prizes in the raffle, ably administered by our very own raffle queen, Carmel McCadden! Our star prize of a king-sized, hand crocheted Aodh Ruadh blanket, donated by Phyllis Cummins, was won by Maura and Muireann Gallagher, much to envy of everyone at the event. The funds from this fund-raiser will go towards the under 15s trip to the National Feile finals in Ballinasloe on 24th June. It was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyable evening and the juvenile committee would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the parents who helped and contributed to what proved to be a huge undertaking. Particular mention must go to Mary Sheridan and Regina Gibbions, the main organisers, for their vision and enthusiasm in organising this fantastic event.

There will be a meeting of the Juvenile Hurling Committee in the Áras on Wednesday at 9pm. All parents and coaches and anyone with an interest in hurling are more than welcome to attend.

Ladies football
Ardara were unable to field on Sunday, so the spotlight was focused squarely on our Division 3 squad as they took on Kilcar. They put in a great performance on a hot afternoon on the Rock to earn a 4-6 to 1-8 victory. Aodh Ruadh had shot into the lead after just 22 seconds with Shelly Loughlin popping over. A couple of minutes later Grainne Maguire had fired to the net and that was followed very shortly by a goal from Cadhla Dolan. On the sixth minute then Amanda Mahon reacted first to a ball palmed out by the keeper to raise the Shamettes third green flag of the day. Kilcar finally got off the mark in the eighth minute with a free, but two classy efforts from Eimear McMahon cancelled that out with interest. Kilcar registered their second point of the game going into the second quarter, but that was answered by score of the game from Eimear McMahon, a real beauty which split the posts from an acute angle. The remainder of the scoring in the run up to the break came from dead ball, with two for Kilcar and one for Cadhla Dolan to leave it Aodh Ruadh 3-5 Kilcar 0-4 at the interval. The scoring tailed off in the second half with the heavy, sultry conditions taking their toll. Kilcar rattled off the first three points of the half, but Shelley Loughlin came raiding through just before the water break and was up-ended for a spot kick which Eimear McMahon arrowed to the net. On the resumption Síofra Hughes got a deserved point to conclude the Ballyshannon scoring. Kilcar did manage to hit a further 1-1, but the Erneside defence was very strong and ensured Aodh Ruadh ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-6 to 1-8. Roisin Maguire had a great game and dealt well with a number of dangerous dropping balls. Ana Keon and Lauren Moore showed great energy in the sapping conditions. Síofra Hughes had a fantastic game along with Kate Cunningham, Roisin McGloin and Shelley Loughlin in the middle third. Up front Eimear McMahon was lethal with Hannah McGuinness, Amanda Mahon and Niamh Hoey doing a lot of good work. Check out aodhruadh.org later in the week where we will have a gallery of pictures from the game.

Both adult ladies teams back are out in league action again this week. The Division 3 side will be taking on MacCumhaill's in Ballybofey this Thursday at 8.15pm, while the Division 1 side will be in Moville on Sunday for a 10.30am throw-in.

Best of luck to the under 14s who will be hosting Bundoran in Pairc Aoidh Ruaidh this Saturday at 1pm

Saturday morning was the Aodh Ruadh under 12 girls turn to host their Regional Blitz. Over 90 children took part with three games on the go on the two pitches in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Four Masters along with ourselves providing two teams and Glenfin and Naomh Conaill both brought a squad of talented young footballers. As is always the case, no game can take place without someone in charge in the middle so a special thanks go out to our referees for the day, Anna Rafferty, Cáit Gillespie, John Hughes, Rachel Gillespie and Faye Gillespie. After three hours of entertaining football, all the girls and coaches made their way up to Aras Aoidh Ruaidh for a wonderful spread of food and drinks which was supplied and served by the parents. The Aodh Ruadh management team are very grateful for everyone's help in making it an extremely successful day for the girls and the club. We will have a gallery of pictures from the game published on aodhruadh.org later in the week.

The under 10 girls played their sixth blitz of the year last Thursday, this one hosted by Donegal Town. On a hot evening the girls worked very hard and there were some brilliant displays of talent. Amelia McNulty scored a super point from a sideline ball and Grace Coughlin and Robyn McNamee were among the brilliant performances on the night. The girls had great fun and really enjoyed the ice cream kindly provided by Four Masters after the games. Four Masters will return the fixture in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday, June 17th.

Well done to the under 6 and under 8 ladies teams who finished up last week for the summer. The squad enjoyed some well-deserved ice cream in the lovely weather after their training session. There has been great work put in by all our young stars so far this season and we look forward to seeing you all back in August. Thanks to all the coaches and especially the under 14 girls who helped out at the trainings.

Camogie

It is hoped to stage the first meeting of the new committee shortly, with details to be confirmed later this week.

Football
Aodh Ruadh overcame the concession of two first half goals to run out convincing winners against Glenfin down in Pairc Taobhóige. The Ballyshannon men edged the first half scoring five to three, but Glenfin's two goals meant they lead at the break 2-1 to 0-5. Diarmaid McInerney (2), Shane McGrath (2) and Eoghan Kelly were on the mark in a first 30 minutes of football where the Ernesiders owned the ball, but paid the price for a couple of defensive lapses. The second half started with Glenfin drawing first blood, but from there to the final whistle Aodh Ruadh took over. Gary Carty laid down the marker, getting up for a good score. Philip Patton then also started to find his range and Aodh Ruadh moved into a 2-2 to 0-10 lead. Then in the 40th minute a flowing move by John McNulty's side teed up Eoghan Kelly to slip to the net and open up a six-point gap between the sides. Glenfin did hit back with some sporadic points, but Aodh Ruadh were in control now and further points from Philip Patton, Matt Gillespie and Diarmaid McInerney ensured the points were heading to Ballyshannon. The team now rise to joint second on the ACFL Division 1 table. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O’Brien; Mark McGlynn, Kyle Murray, Colm Kelly; Gary Carty (0-2), Eddie Lynch, Eoghan Kelly (1-1); Cian Dolan, Shane McGrath; Matt Gillespie (0-2), Cian Rooney, Phillip Patton (0-5); Callum O’Halloran (0-1), Donagh McIntyre, Diarmaid McInerney (0-5f). Subs: Shane Delahunty for Cian Rooney 26 minutes, Jack Gallagher for Shane Delahunty 44 minutes, Shane Delahunty for Callum O’Halloran 54 minutes, Robbie Murphy for Donagh McIntyre 59 minutes.

The reserves came up against a physical and tenacious Glenfin side. It was a low scoring affair with the Ballyshannon lads never allowed to hit their stride. Nevertheless, they could have salvaged a draw from the contest with a shot coming back off the post in the last play of the contest. It wasn't to be unfortunately, as Glenfin held on to run out 1-6 to 1-3 winners.

The seniors have a break this weekend ahead of a huge pair of games on Saturday 1st July against Naomh Conaill. Throw in down in Glenties will be at 4pm for the seniors, with the reserves going off at 2.30pm. Ahead of that the Division 4 team will be at home against Dungloe this Suday, time to be confirmed.

Our under 15 boys qualified for the Division 2 regional final after a 100 percent record in the league. We faced Naomh Mhuire in the decider on Friday evening, the team who ran us closest in the league. On that occasion we won on a scoreline of 4-16 to 5-11, so another high scoring shoot out looked to be on the cards. However, as finals often pan out, a shoot-out it was not. From early on Naomh Mhuire set up much more defensively, and it seemed to be working after 10 minutes played, as they were 0-2 points 0-0 ahead, from two frees. During that period, Aodh Ruadh had failed to settle, with several errors being made. We began to dominate more of the ball midway through that first half and were level shortly afterwards. As the half drew to a close, our lads continued their domination, and went in at half-time with a 0-5 to 0-3 lead. The second half continued in much the same vein as the first half. Aodh Ruadh controlled proceedings without pulling away. Naomh Mhuire would only score one more point in the half, with our lads scoring another four, winning out on a final score line of 0-9 to 0-4. Aodh Ruadh now go forward for the all-county Division 2 league quarter-final. That match will take place in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh against Red Hugh's this Tuesday night, with throw-in at 7pm. It would be great to get a big showing of local support up to the Rock to get behind the lads.

The under 11 Green squad travelled to Saint John's, Sligo on Saturday morning to take part in a blitz with teams from Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal. The boys put in a terrific performance, remaining unbeaten throughout the day. On Saturday, the boys are back on the road with the long journey to face Naomh Mhuire up in Annagry. The White squad continue to impress and took on our neighbours Four Masters on Monday evening in Munday's Field. Training continues as normal on Wednesday evening for both squads at 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a brilliant set of photos live from last Friday's under 5 training session.

Aodh Ruadh will be looking to get their senior championship up and running this Friday when they take on Setanta in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 7.30pm.

The minors preparation for their upcoming county final against MacCumhaill's is continuing with training on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

Our under 15s preparations for the national Féile na nGael Finals continued unabated with a long, early journey to Castleblayney last Sunday morning to take on the Faughs under 15s in a challenge match. The many travelling supporters were not to be disappointed in what was a great game of hurling and a truly great team performance. This group of lads and coaches have really put in tremendous effort in their preparation and have made massive improvements. Roll on next weekend when they make the long trek to Ballinasloe to participate in the John West Féile na nGael finals as Donegal Division 1 Champions and take on teams from Mayo, Roscommon and Wicklow in their group rounds. This team would like to sincerely thank Diarmuid Whoriskey of Rathmore Mechanical Services, Sean Nugent from Nugent Construction and Eoghan Ruadh from Owen Roe O'Neill's for the sponsorship of their new swanky kit and of course, a big thank you to all the support for our fund-raisers which will allow for the bus and refreshments along the way. The very best of luck to the whole team in the competition.

The under 11s are also busy preparing for the start of their league campaign. The games will start on 6th July and training continues on Sunday mornings until then.

The under 9 Go Games started with a bang this past weekend and will run every Sunday until the end of July. Last Sunday saw our boys and girls travel to the Centre of Excellence in Convoy for an all-county blitz.

Our under 7 boys and girls continued their fun training sessions last Sunday in Páirc Aoidh Ruadh and now take a short break for a couple of weeks.

The Juvenile Hurling Committee are delighted to announce that our annual trip to Croke Park will be happening on Sunday 9th July. The bus is already filling up fast! Depending on interest and numbers, the price is likely to be €25 per child and €65 per adult for both the match ticket and bus. All enquiries to secretary Orla Bannon on 086-8035316 before Friday 23rd June.

Ladies football
The Division 1 team made the long trip down to Moville on Sunday morning for a 10.30am throw-in. It was a magnificent performance by the Ballyshannon women. They got off to a whirlwind start quickly getting 2-1 on the board, but Moville soon found their shooting boots and hit back with two goals of their own. After the water break Aodh Ruadh went back up through the gears again and they took a nine-point lead in at the break. A blitz of scores on the resumption help decide the tie as the visitors ran out 6-10 to 3-5 winners at the final whistle. It was a fantastic performance by the whole Aodh Ruadh team who were as follows: Brídín Maguire, Ana Keon, Sara Gallagher; Hannah Doherty Caitlin McGarrigle, Anna Rafferty; Saoirse McDevitt, Aoibhínn McGarrigle; Kate Cunningham, Cáit Gillespie, Eimear McMahon; Terri Gallagher, Grainne Maguire. Subs Fiona McGonigle, Meabh McCloskey, Roisin Maguire, Cadhla Dolan Cara O'Loughlin.

The Division 3 team were in Ballybofey on a very muggy Thursday evening last week for their latest outing. It was an evenly balanced tussle with Aodh Ruadh's goal-getting proving the difference between the sides. Donna Martin had a superb game and she started the scoring in the third minute. MacCumhaill's hit back with two points of their own before Martin levelled matters once again nine minutes in. Cadhla Dolan then fired over a free and, again, the Ballybofey women hit two in reply. Aodh Ruadh's response though proved the game's tipping point. It came in the form of a goal from Dolan in the 14th minute to make it 1-3 to 0-4 and from that point onwards the Shamettes were able to keep their noses in front. Mary Flora Scott was another who had a fine game and she put a goal between the side moving into the second quarter. Cadhla Dolan, Terri Gallagher and Donna Martin added further points to give Aodh Ruadh a half time advantage of 1-7 to 0-7. It took eight minutes into the second half for the game's next score, but it was well worth the wait, Lauren Foy showing all her dynamism to work the chance and blast to the net. Then in the 44th minute was the score of the game a brilliant individual goal from Cadhla Dolan, who then promptly raised her second green flag of the day to make it 4-7 to 0-7 to 45 minutes played. Eimear McMahon stretched the lead before MacCumhaill's hit their first goal of the game. McMahon fired an answering point, but once again MacCumhaill's responded with a goal. The hosts did add two further points, but time was running out and they had left themselves too much to do, so Aodh Ruadh ran out winner on a scoreline of 4-9 to 2-9. It was a night when a lot of players rose to the occasion. In defence Aoife Bromley did an excellent man-marking job, with Shelly Loughlin and Hannah Doherty both putting in big shifts. Meabh McCloskey, Síofra Hughes, Orla Keon and Lauren Foy put up big kilometres on a tough night to play the middle third. Up front Donna Martin was immense, with Mary Flora Scott and Cadhla Dolan also causing plenty of problems.

This Sunday it's another ladies double header in Pairc Aoidh Ruaidh this coming weekend. The Division 3 team will be taking on Four Masters at 10am, with the Division 1 side facing off against Saint Eunan's at 11.30am.

The under 14s had a comfortable win over Bundoran on Saturday morning. Lily O'Donnell was excellent at the heart of the defence with Niamh McGrath and Caitlin McGuinness getting through a lot of work further up the pitch. Up front Aoife Hughes and Faye Gillespie both had very productive outings. Next up for the team is MacCumhaill's this Saturday with fixtures details still to be decided.

Saturday saw nearly 70 under 8 and under 10 girls playing ball at Munday's field when Four Masters came to Ballyshannon. Two Aodh Ruadh under 10 teams took on the Donegal town girls in very evenly matched games. Ella Dorian and Muireann Gallagher led by example for Aodh Ruadh and there were many other fine performances including from Aisling Britton and Aoife McGuiness. The under 8s also put in a great effort with very promising games from Grace Abbott and the McGowan twins, Nicole and Caoimhe. Huges thanks to our fantastic referees on the day, Aoife Travers, Emily McNamee, Cadhla Dolan and Emma O'Donnell.

Camogie

Aodh Ruadh fly high at Féile 2023
The spirits were high with anticipation as Kevin Byrne pulled out of the Market Yard at 7.45am on Saturday morning, bound for Ballinasloe and the National Féile finals. This was only the second time a Donegal team made it into division 3 and the team had prepared well in advance with a number of challenging friendlies. After a quick pit stop in Boyle for a big fry and the all-important protein loading at the King House Tea Rooms, the team arrived in style with plenty of time to check out the opposition and to have a good warm up. Weather conditions were fair, warm and breezy. At 12.10pm, captain Garreth Brennan led out Aodh Ruadh to meet Westport in the first of three group stage matches. Thankfully, our boys settled down quick enough after an early goal from Corey Sheridan and maintained their lead throughout. There was great teamwork and some nice passing during the game. One of the best of these passes came from Joe Gibbions and allowed Corey Sheridan to bury it in the net for the second time. The match finished up at 3-3 to 1-7 in favour of the Donegal lads. The first win instilled the confidence the boys needed for their second game against Carnew Emmet's from Wicklow. The under 15 Donegal development team, with over ten Aodh Ruadh members, had recently suffered a heavy defeat in Dundalk IT at the hands of the Wicklow boys and this was the match that was most feared. It was a tighter affair, for sure, but Aodh Ruadh had the edge throughout. After Finn Doogan found the back of the net, Aodh Ruadh pulled away and eventually took the spoils on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-8. Our hosts, Padraig Pearse's, were the next opponents. The game started sluggishly and was quite low scoring to begin with, but again Aodh Ruadh dominated with a slick passing game and sensible play. The wind increased and worryingly, there were a number of wides in the first half from both Corey Sheridan and Shay Winters, but both regained their form and Aodh Ruadh went on to beat the hosts 1-8 to 1-1. Much to the delight of our huge travelling support, Aodh Ruadh had only just gone and topped their group and were drawn to meet, fellow Ulster outfit, Eoghan Ruadh from Dungannon. This would be the second time these two teams had faced off in a tournament, with Aodh Ruadh taking the spoils by a single point at home last year. The Reds, who came second in their group, were a much more formidable team than the previous three. Aodh Ruadh, looking a bit tired, and sporting a number of injuries fell behind early. Down by three points and yet to score was the perfect time for Daithi Sheerin to push his way through the sea of red and white and find the back of the net. The sides were level and the game took off in intensity. Unfortunately, Eoghan Ruadh were the stronger team on the day and the match finished on a respectable scoreline of 1-6 to 1-3. The Féile journey was over! The heads were down and the bus was muted at first but the massive bluetooth speaker made an appearance after the obligatory Supermac’s stop as the boys reflected on what was a very successful experience. They played to the best of their ability and represented their club and county brilliantly. They really were a credit to themselves, their families and their club with well-mannered and sporting behaviour on display all day. It was a very enjoyable and well organised day out and it was great to see so many travelling supporters. We were a colourful, noisy bunch, despite the promises of a silent sideline! Luckily the only heckling on the day was reserved for one of our own! The lads really noticed and appreciated all the flags and cheering too. A big shout out to Eamonn Owens for driving the supporters’ bus on the day and to our very own pro photographer, Ann McGarrigle, who must have snapped each of us, willingly or unwillingly, at least once! A constant throughout the whole qualification process has been the massive parental support and the committee would like to sincerely thank them all for their involvement. The Juvenile Hurling Committee would like to extend their thanks to all who helped to make this experience possible. Huge thanks must go to our main sponsors; Diarmaid Whoriskey of Rathmore Mechanical Services, Sean Nugent of Nugent Construction and Eoghan Ruadh from Owen Roe’s. Thanks too are extended to all those who provided cash donations – Andrew and Kathleen Brennan, Tommie and Susan Sheridan, Eugene Drummond, Kenneth Neilan at Keycall, CJ Farrell Haulage and Melly’s Bar. All this coupled with the amazing fund-raising efforts by the under 15 parents – John and Carmel McCadden and Mary Sheridan and Regina Gibbions, in particular – allowed our lads to be kitted out in the best, transported safely and fed along the way. A big thank you to the local businesses that ensured the team were fed and watered throughout the day with refreshments from Rossa McCosker in Centra, David O’Donnell in Kernan’s Spar, Terry Hughes in Circle K, Belleek and Owen Roe’s Bar and Off Licence. Thanks also to Denis Daly for organising the beautiful Belleek Pottery presentation gift. It was well received and much appreciated by the junior hurling chairperson, Yvonne Cuniffe at Padraig Pearses, CLG.

Hurling
The focus this week moves to our minor panel and the county final on Thursday evening. Aodh Ruadh will face MacCumhaill's in the Centre of Excellence in Convoy, throw-in at 8pm. Having already played and beaten MacCumhaill's earlier in the League, the lads are hopeful of another good win on Thursday. Nevertheless, they are taking no chances and have been taking extra training sessions in preparation. The very best of luck to Daithi, Danny, Denis and all the team.

The under 15s will have a well-deserved break this week. Training will resume again next week when preparations for the county league will begin. Congratulations to two members of the under 15 panel, Dylan Cullen and Alex Kerrigan who represented Aodh Ruadh and Creevy National School in the Primary Schools Skills Competition in Convoy on Sunday morning, despite being part of the Féile team that travelled to and from Ballinasloe the day before!

Training continues for the under 11s on Sunday mornings as they too, prepare for the beginning of their league action on Thursday, 6th July.

The under 9s were disappointed to have their Go Game cancelled at the last minute on Friday evening last. Training will continue on Sunday at 11.45am.

Football
Aodh Ruadh had a break last weekend from adult football. Speaking of which, well done to Peter Boyle and Edel Treacy who tied the knot out on Malaga last week. Hopefully the squad got some warm weather work in ahead of the upcoming trip to sunny Glenties! This is looking like it could be a big weekend for both our senior and reserves with the results potentially having a big say in who makes their respective league finals. The Reserve game gets the action under way this Saturday at 3pm, while the senior game gets going at 4.30pm. We know our usual loyal travelling supporters will be there, but it would be great to see big Ballyshannon numbers making the trip to Davy Brennan Park for these two vital games.

It has been a big week for our under 15 boys. The action started with the under 15 B league county quarter-final against Red Hugh’s last Monday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The Ballyshannon lads started strongly and led 1-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. They were well on top during the first half, and should have been further ahead, but conceded a goal before half-time which kept the Killygordon lads in touch. Again, the Ernesiders started brightly in the second half, although two quick Red Hugh’s goals again kept them in touch. Aodh Ruadh weren't to be denied though and finished strongly to win by 12 points and set up a county semi-final on Monday night against Milford down in the County Centre of Excellence in Convoy. Aodh Ruadh were in commanding form in the first half of this tie and by the turn-around they had run up a 2-9 to 1-3 advantage. The second half saw Milford dig deep though and the Aodh Ruadh scoring rate slowed, while the Moyle View Park lads got more joy in the attack. Aodh Ruadh defended well though, and Milford just couldn't find the goal they needed to bring themselves back into the tie, and so it finished Aodh Ruadh 3-13 Milford 1-11. Huge congratulations to the Ballyshannon boys, who are now planning for a county final on the weekend of 9th July. Ahead of that the squad will travel to Stewartstown in Tyrone this Saturday to represent Donegal in the Division 2 Féile competition. Their opposition will be Na Fianna of Dublin, Truagh of Monaghan and the local Stewartstown club.

The under 11 Green squad made the long trek to Naomh Mhuire on Saturday, putting in one of the best performances of the season and proving too strong for the home side. Training continues as normal on Monday and Wednesday evening at 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

Ladies football
Our adult ladies footballers went without a competitive fixture last weekend. They hope to return to action this Wednesday when the Division 1 team are fixed to take on Buncrana in Bundoran's Gaelic Park at 8.15pm. Then on Sunday it's the turn of the Division 3 squad as they head to the Crossroads to tackle Red Hugh's at 10.30am.

The under 14 were at home to MacCumhaill's last on Saturday. The Ernesiders found it difficult to hit their stride and the visitors made the most of their chances to go in leading by a goal at the break. Proceedings continued in a similar vein over the course of the second half and it finished in a 2-7 to 0-7 victory for the Ballybofey girls. Aoife Hughes was probably Aodh Ruadh's stand out player on the night, giving her all in the attack. Meanwhile Aodhbha O'Donnell battled hard in midfield with Kate McGrath working hard in busy defence. Next up for the girls is the return tie against MacCumhaill's with fixture details yet to be confirmed.

Our under 10 girls are entertaining Ardara for a blitz this Saturday with the action getting under way at 11am. This will be the team's last outing before breaking for the summer.

Camogie
For the first time in many, many years, we had a camogie session in Ballyshannon. It was a very successful Sunday morning and we were really blessed with the sunshine. Many thanks to everyone for attending and to everyone who helped out with coaching and on the sidelines, we hoped you all enjoyed it and had some fun! Thanks also to John Larkin and Martin Larkin for sharing their gear. We should also give a shout out to some of our hurling boys for helping out; Cian McDonald, Cillian Bradshaw, Kenzie Ayres and Gareth Brennan. We hope to see you all again this Sunday morning same time - 11.45am - same place. Any parent who would like to be added in to the Camogie WhatsApp group is asked to contact Sharon 086-0866804 or Ciara 087-7529309.
