Football
Aodh Ruadh will return to league action this coming Sunday when Gaoth Dobhair will be the guests at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

The minors meeting with Kilcar has been rescheduled to this Wednesday.

Our under 15s had their first league game of the season on Friday evening, at home to Killybegs. Our boys played well throughout and ran out easy winners. The Aodh Ruadh lads will be in action in Division 2 of the county féile competition this Saturday, with a 10.30am start time, in Ardara.

Under 11 training continues as normal on Monday and Wednesday evening in Munday's Field from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. The White squad have an away game on Thursday evening at 7pm against Naomh Bríd. Players should be in Ballintra for 6.30pm.

Hurling
The Aodh Ruadh seniors came up short in Inishowen on Friday evening when Burt just had too much for the Ballyshannon men. The opening quarter was reasonably evenly fought, with Burt edging into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead, but the hosts pushed on and had built up a 2-10 to 0-3 cushion by the break. Martin Larkin, Ryan O'Brien and Aaron Horan were all on the mark for the Ernesiders. In the second half Burt picked up where they left off, keeping the score board ticking over while Ballyshannon could only muster sporadic points from Paul Cassidy, Kyle McNulty, Aaron Horan and Martin Larkin as it finished 6-18 to 0-7. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Kenzie Ayres; Callum Ayres, Aaron Neilan, James Gallagher; Thomas Winters, Caelan Drummond, Kyle McNulty (0-1); Cian McKenna, Ryan O’Brien (0-1); Martin Larkin (0-2), Aaron Horan (0-2), Gareth Sheerin; Paul Cassidy (0-1), Shane Brady, Shane Patterson. Aodh Ruadh continue their Grand Canal Hotel Spring League this Friday with a home match against Saint Eunan's. Throw in at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh will be at 7.30pm and we would like to see a good crowd up to get behind the lads.

Our minors had a great win over MacCumhaill's on Thursday evening in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh in what was a challenging and entertaining match. With two wins in a row under their belt, they will be hoping to continue this form when they host Saint Eunan's this Thursday at home.

The under 15s were left disappointed after the long trek to Newtownforbes on Wednesday night when they lost out to Clonguish in the third round of the Táin Óg competition on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-8. However, they rallied themselves for the County Féile qualifiers in Convoy the following Sunday. They played four matches against MacCumhaill's, Saint Eunan's, Carndonagh and Setanta and won all four. They will now progress to the National finals in Mayo on 24th June.

Congratulations to all our junior teams who took part in friendly challenge matches in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday morning with over 40 young hurlers taking to the field between the three squads. Our under 11s had a fiercely competitive outing against near neighbours Saint Molaise Gaels, which was followed by a póc fáda competition, won by Sean Travers. The under 9s and under 7s welcomed teams from Donegal Town. Training will continue for all these age groups next Sunday at 11.45am.

Ladies football
Our adult ladies return to action next Sunday with another round of away games. The seniors will be heading to Glenties to take on Naomh Conaill, while the reserves will be in Donegal town to face Four Masters.

The under 16s had a great win over Saint Naul's in Mountcharles last Tuesday evening to keep their hopes of making the A county semi-finals alive. The Ballyshannon girls delivered a great first half performance to turn around at the interval leading by a goal. The visitors then rattled in three quick-fire goals at the start of the second half to effectively finish the tie. It was a great all-round performance by the Ernesiders with Cadhla Dolan hot on the goal trail and Ciara Larkin, Aoife Travers and Lauren Foy among those firing over points as it finished Aodh Ruadh 6-8 Saint Naul's 3-7. The under 16s play the last game of the group stages this Tuesday against Ardara. Throw0-in at Pearse Memorial Park is at 7pm.

Well done to Cadhla Dolan, Ciara Larkin and the Donegal under 16s who secured a 0-14 to 2-14 away win against Monaghan to secure their place in the Ulster final. Cadhla was in goals, while Ciara was at centre forward for the win. The very best of luck in the final. Elsewhere, big congratulations are due to Emma O’Donnell, Ellen Monaghan, Laoise Foy, Cadhla Gillespie and Rachel Gillespie were part of the Donegal side which defeated Antrim 2-12 to 2-5 to claim the Ulster Bronze title.

Under 6 and under 8 training continues this Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. Anyone who would like to have their daughter involved, or who has questions, can contact Sarah Drummond on 083-8648342.

Club Executive meeting
The monthly club executive committee takes place this Thursday at 8.30pm in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. All committee members are asked to attend. Items for any other business should be with Club Secretary, Lisa McTernan by 2pm on Wednesday.

Football
Aodh Ruadh put in a dynamic display against Gaoth Dobhair on Sunday afternoon to take a fully-merited win in the latest round of ACFL Division 1. The Ernesiders did their best work in the first half, and showed grit in the second to throttle any possibility of a Gaoth Dobhair fight back. The visitors started the scoring a minute in, but Nathan Boyle sent over a free a few minutes later from wide out on the left to restore parity. Philip Patton then slipped over from play a minute later to give a sample of the treats he had in store for the spectators in Munday's field. Patton added a dinked effort after some good build-up before David Dolan hit two scores to make it 0-5 to 0-1 with eight minutes played. Gaoth Dobhair were working off scraps, but they did hit the next two points to close with the hosts. That good work was undone in a two-minute spell at the start of the second quarter. It started with a beautifully struck Diarmaid McInerney point into the teeth of the breeze and was rapidly followed by a Philip Patton point from play. Then seconds later Patton was the right man in the right place as he rammed past Gavin Sweeney in the Gaoth Dobhair net. Darren Drummond then got in on the act as Aodh Ruadh started to play with real verve. The Gaeltacht men did come back with two points, but the last say of the half went to Nathan Boyle who finished a well-constructed move to leave the sides heading for the dressing rooms with the scores reading Aodh Ruadh 1-9 Gaoth Dobhair 0-5. The second half was a bit more sedate from Aodh Ruadh, although they did register the first score with David Dolan firing over from play. Gaoth Dobhair hit the next two points, but a fine driving effort from Eamonn McGrath kept seven points between the sides. Another couple of points for the Magheragallon men were answered by a Diarmaid McInerney free, and that was followed by score of the game. The Aodh Ruadh kick out came to Nathan Boyle who showed lightening hands to pop a sumptuous ball into the path of the rampaging Kyle Murray, Murray spotted David Dolan one-on-one on the edge of the square and let fly. Dolan made a sublime fetch before dividing the uprights for a spectacular score. Gaoth Dobhair came back with a free, but points from David Dolan and Diarmaid McInerney more than compensated for that. Gaoth Dobhair did get two late goals, but these were very much of the consolation variety and Aodh Ruadh were full value for their 1-16 to 2-10 victory. A very polished team performance from the Ernesiders with strong displays all over the park. The full back line of Eamonn McGrath and the Kelly brothers really pushed forward with intensity, while David Dolan had a superb day at the office oscillating between the middle and final thirds. Philip Patton was simply unmarkable in the first half, while Nathan Boyle gilded the game with a number of divine touches and scores and Diarmaid McInerney was as clinical as ever. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Colm Kelly, Eamonn McGrath (0-1), Eoghan Kelly; Kyle Murray, Darren Drummond (0-1), Niall Murray; David Dolan (0-5, 1f), Cian Dolan; Diarmaid McInerney (0-3), Shane Delahunty, Mark McGlynn; Eddie Lynch, Nathan Boyle, Philip Patton (1-3, 1f). Subs: Shane McGrath for Philip Patton 28 minutes; Cian Rooney for Shane Delahunty 51 minutes; Jack Gallagher for Eoghan Kelly 62 minutes. We have a gallery of shots from the big game live on aodhruadh.org now.

Aodh Ruadh reserves had to dig deep to get the result and preserve their 100 percent record against a classy Gaoth Dobhair outfit on Sunday afternoon. The visitors had the breeze in the first half and made full use of it to pick off a string of lovely points. Aodh Ruadh spent much of that first half chasing shadows, and when JJ Cassidy finally found the net in the 20th minute for his side's first score of the game it was badly needed. Five minutes later Cathal Kelly slipped over a point, but Gaoth Dobhair continued to look in charge in every sector. The last say of the second half went Aodh Ruadh's way though, with the lively Darragh Dolan taking a good score to leave it 1-2 to 0-8. Given how dominant Gaoth Dobhair had been, that was a decent return at the turn-around. The second half proved to be a bit of a slow burner, with Aodh Ruadh slowly improving and working their way into the game. Sticky Ward got matters off to a good start with an early point, but Gaoth continued to pick off points and keep the homesters at arm's length. A brilliantly finished Harry Howarth goal on 40 minutes ignited Aodh Ruadh though, and a Sticky Ward mark shortly after made it 2-4 to 0-11. Then with 48 minutes on the clock Robbie Murphy pounced on a bit of a blunder by the Gaoth Dobhair keeper to send his side into the lead for the first time in the contest. The Gaeltacht men restored equality ten minutes from time, and did the same after Sticky Ward sent over a free. Aodh Ruadh were finishing the game strongly and won a free out on the right on the 20-metre line. It was a tricky dead ball, but Robbie Murphy was ice cool as he stroked it over to give his side a fantastic 3-6 to 0-14 victory. The Ballyshannon lads took their time getting into the game, but were well served by a strong defensive display with Cookie O'Halloran, Dan Warnock, Mitch McLaughlin and Luke Carr featuring prominently. Darragh and Tiernan Dolan both did really well in the middle third. Sticky Ward anchored the attack well and set up a lot of good ball for Harry Howarth, Robbie Murphy and Cathal Kelly. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O'Brien; Callum O'Halloran, Michael Ward, Conor Foy; Mitch McLaughlin, Luke Carr, Dan Warnock; Tiernan Flood-Dolan, Colm McGloin; Darragh Flood-Dolan (0-1), Martin McGarrigle, JJ Cassidy (1-0); Harry Howarth (1-0), Sticky Ward (0-3, 1m, 1f), Cathal Kelly (0-1). Subs: Chris Goan for JJ Cassidy; Robbie Murphy (1-1, 1f) for Martin McGarrigle. Check out aodhruadh.org for a gallery of pictures from the game.

Aodh Ruadh are back in league action this weekend when they will be taking on Saint Eunan's on Saturday. The senior game throws-in down in Letterkenny's O'Donnell park at 7pm, with the reserve match getting under way at 5.30pm. Elsewhere Aodh Ruadh will be making their return to competitive action in the junior ranks on Sunday when they will be hosting Termon in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 3pm in ACFL Division 4.

Congratulations to exiled Sham Jason Kane who has been selected to play on the All-Asia Team to play in the World Games in Croke Park this July.

Kilcar minors conceded their game against Aodh Ruadh last Wednesday. The next action for them is a challenge match against Devenish in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Wednesday.

Our under 15 team were in Ardara on Saturday to compete in the Division 2 Feile all county competition. In the round robin stage, the Ballyshannon lads began with a comprehensive victory over Na Rossa. Next up were Milford, who, as expected, were a much tougher test. The Ernesiders began slowly, with several unforced errors in the first half, leaving them five points down at half-time. The boys showed great resilience in the second half, and fought back to win by two points. The final group game was against Naomh Mhuire, with another win needed to guarantee Aodh Ruadh a place in the final. Again, the lads started slowly and were four points down midway through the first half. But again, like the Milford game, the boys dug deep and came back to win a tight game by two points. That set Ballyshannon up for a place in the final against Glenswilly. Aodh Ruadh won the toss and opted to play with the strong wind. They dominated proceedings, leading at half-time by four points. Glenswilly came back as expected, but a superb goal midway through the second half gave Aodh Ruadh some breathing space, and they controlled the rest of the game, running out winners on a scoreline of 2-6 to 1-2. Everybody on the 25-man panel saw game-time, and it was a most enjoyable day in the Ardara sunshine. There were several players who excelled throughout, but the overall performance of the team was what pleased management most, especially in the games where they had to come from behind. The under 15s train as normal on Monday and Wednesday, and are at home to Naomh Bríd on Friday night in the Division 2 league, with throw-in at 7pm.

The Aodh Ruadh under 11 White squad put in a great performance against Naomh Bríd on Thursday evening, coming out on top in a very close encounter. The schedule for the coming week sees both squads training on Monday and Wednesday evening from 5.45pm to 6.45pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The spotlight turns to the Green squad this week, who are away to Dungloe on Saturday morning at 11am. The White squad have no game this week.

Hurling
Aodh Ruadh were back on home ground last Friday with an undefeated Saint Eunan's side the visitors to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The Letterkenny men started the game in strong style and three first half goals, the first coming just three minutes in, gave them a winning platform. From there Saint Eunan's dominated the first half with only sporadic answering frees from Gareth Sheerin, as the sides turned around with the visitors 0-4 to 3-9 to the good. The second half saw the Ernesiders throw off the shackles as they tried to reel in the leaders. A well taken goal by Caelan Drummond was a shot in the arm, and with Ryan O’Brien, Kyle McNulty and Senan Rooney on the mark Aodh Ruadh did manage to close back to within 11 points. However, Saint Eunan's finished with a kick and the final whistle sounded with the score board reading Aodh Ruadh 1-9 Saint Eunan's 5-12. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Kieran Daly; Ciaran Rami, Aaron Neilan, Kyle McNulty (0-2); Callum Ayres, Caelan Drummond (1-0), Ryan O’Brien (0-1); Senan Rooney (0-1), Ryan McCormack; James Gallagher, Cian McKenna, Gareth Sheerin (0-5f); Shane Brady, Deva Ayres, Jason Patterson. Subs: Kenzie Ayres for Kieran Daly HT. The next action for Aodh Ruadh in the Spring League will be on Friday 19th May, when Setanta will be the guests in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Our minors unfortunately had their league match cancelled again last week. Training is continuing in preparation for their next game in the Donegal League against Carndonagh at home this Thursday.

A massive well done to our three minor hurlers who were part of the Donegal county team which succumbed to a stronger Derry side on Sunday in the quarter-final of the Celtic Challenge Cup. Cian McDonald, Tommy Clyne and Jun Hui Lin all played their part and represented Aodh Ruadh well.

The under 15s pulled off a great win against a tough Carrick-on-Shannon side on Sunday morning in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh in their last group match of the Táin Òg competition. Physically strong and athletic, the Carrick lads were fresh from having won the Leitrim Féile competition. Captain Jayden McGrath Clyne chose to play against the breeze in the first half and led by example keeping the visitors to 2-5 to Aodh Ruadh's 5-7. With the breeze behind them in the second half the Aodh Ruadh backs kept the Leitrim boys scoreless while the Ballyshannon midfield and forwards kept the score board ticking over. This was a real test of character for this team of young hurlers who qualified top of their Táin Óg group and now march on to the Táin Óg final.

Our under 15s have started planning the fund-raising for their trip to the National Féile Finals in Mayo in June. The mammies and daddies will be hosting a very special Afternoon Tea event in the Breesy Centre on Saturday, June 10th. See the club Facebook page for details or contact Mary Sheridan on 087-6843285.

Our under 11 squad was in action Sunday morning with MacCumhaill's providing the opposition. We had a great start, but the Ballybofey ads gradually came into the game, running out the winners in the end. This was a great test for this squad, and they have shown a massive improvement so far this year. Training continues this Sunday at 11.45am.

There will be no under 7 or under 9 training this week.

Ladies football
Aodh Ruadh senior ladies travelled to Glenties on Sunday morning for their latest outing in Division 1. The weather was breezy, but humid which made for sapping conditions. The sides were tit for tat in the first half. The visitors opened the scoring with an Eimear McMahon free, but that was answered a minute later by a goal for Naomh Conaill. Ballyshannon responded well though, and two further points from Eimear McMahon levelled matters eight minutes in. The sides swapped scores for the next 15 minutes with McMahon and Cait Gillespie making it 1-3 to 0-6 with 23 minutes on the clock. Glenties grabbed the last two points of the half though to go in at the break with a 1-5 to 0-6 lead. Aodh Ruadh played some of their best football in the third quarter and although Naomh Conaill got the first score of the second half that was quickly answered by a Eimear McMahon free. Glenties notched off another two points, but Aodh Ruadh came back with a great move from Gráinne Maguire and Caoimhe Keon which set up Cáit Gillespie to blast to the net. Annalisa Rabbitte then clipped over a point to make it Naomh Conaill 1-9 Aodh Ruadh 1-8 with 42 minutes played. The hosts hit back with 1-1, but Rabbitte rattled home a goal to keep the match in the melting pot going into the last ten minutes. It was the homesters who finished the stronger though and, although Andrea Ryan slipped over a well-taken point on her debut, it was Naomh Conaill who prevailed on a 3-12 to 2-9 final scoreline. Caitlin McGarrigle starred for Aodh Ruadh with a typically tenacious display, while Sara Gallagher and second half sub, Fiona McGonigle, also battled hard in defence. Caoimhe Keon got through a lot of ball in the middle third, while up front Grainne Maguire and Annalisa Rabbitte both contributed well and Eimear McMahon was in fine scoring form.

Aodh Ruadh also tasted defeat in their Division 3 fixture in Donegal town. Four Masters fielded a very strong team and dominated throughout the tie with Aodh Ruadh struggling to make much of an attacking impression. The Ernesiders best displays were in defence where Megan McGee at full back and Roisin McGloin at centre back were both outstanding. Captain Shauna Dolan was an early injury casualty and was a big loss. We wish her well in her recovery. Up front Mary Flora Scott worked hard and was rewarded with a well-deserved goal. Cadhla Dolan also found the back of the net, as well as raising a white flag. Terri Gallagher hit a good point too, but it was a tough day at the office for the Ballyshannon girls.

There will only be one game this coming weekend with the senior ladies taking on Naomh Muire in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday morning. Throw in at 10.30am.

The under 16s concluded the group stage of their competition with a strong performance in Ardara to take a six-point victory. Aodh Ruadh had the breeze in the first half and made good use of it to accrue a five-point interval advantage 1-11 to 2-3. Ballyshannon faced the elements in the second half, but, if anything, the girls upped their game. A Cadhla Dolan penalty was followed by a cooly taken three pointer by Rachel Gillespie converted after rounding the keeper. Those green flags helped the visitors into a 14-point lead midway through the half. Ardara battled back strong though and a big shift was called for from the defence to preserve the lead and see out a 3-16 to 3-10 victory. Half forward Ciara Larkin was outstanding for Aodh Ruadh with Emily McNamee also lively, while the inside line of Cadhla Dolan, Rachel Gillespie and Niamh Duffy were really on song. Further back Katie McGowan did a magnificent job of digging out dirty ball, while Lauren Foy made a big contribution with her intelligent use of the ball. Wee sister Laoise also played a big part between the posts, where she was very sound under the high ball and used her kick outs well. Unfortunately, a last-minute levelling point for Saint Naul's in their deferred clash with Ardara means that Aodh Ruadh miss out on the A county semi-finals and will play in the shield section. That semi-final will be against Saint Eunan's and takes place in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Tuesday, 16th May.

The very best of luck to Cadhla Dolan, Ciara Larkin and the Donegal under 16s in this Saturday's Gold Ulster final game. The match is in Augher at 3.30pm and it would be great to have a big crowd down to get behind the team as they bid for provincial honours. Meanwhile, well done to our under 14 stars: Ella Monaghan, Rachel Gillespie, Laoise Foy and Emma O'Donnell, who were in action with Donegal over last weekend. They all got game-time as Donegal defeated Clare, Wicklow and Fermanagh to book their place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals this coming Saturday. They will be taking on Kilkenny with venue and time details to be confirmed later in the week.

Under 6 and under 8 training continues this Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. Anyone who would like to have their daughter involved, or who has questions, can contact Sarah Drummond on 083-8648342.

Football
Aodh Ruadh came up just short in O'Donnell park on Saturday evening. It was a game over-shadowed by a lengthy injury to Nathan Boyle after he sustained a collapsed lung. Thankfully Nathan is stable now and starting his recuperation. We wish him all the very best for a full and speedy recovery, and thank all who assisted on Saturday. The game itself was a low scoring affair. Saint Eunan's had the better of matters in the first half to carve out a 0-9 to 0-4 interval lead. The second half saw Aodh Ruadh steadily eroding that advantage, but the hosts defended diligently and were able to see out the tie for a 0-13 to 0-10 victory. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Kyle Murray, Eoghan Kelly (0-1), Mark McGlynn; Colm Kelly, Shane McGrath (0-1), Niall Murray; Cian Dolan, Eamonn McGrath; Diarmaid McInerney (0-1f), Shane Delahunty, Philip Patton (0-3f); Eddie Lynch, David Dolan (0-1), Nathan Boyle (0-2, 1f). Subs: Cian Rooney (0-1) for Nathan Boyle; Jack Gallagher for Diarmaid McInerney; Donagh McIntyre for David Dolan; Ryan Keenaghan for Kyle Murray

A blistering second half display saw the Senior Development squad maintain their unbeaten start to their league campaign with a convincing 12-point win at O’Donnell Park. Saint Eunan's, boasting a host of players with considerable senior football experience and former county star Eamon Doherty among their ranks, began on the front foot with a point straight from the throw-in. The remainder of the quarter was tense as both teams tried to feel their way into the game. Saint Eunan's and Sticky Ward swapped frees to leave the score at 0-2 to 0-1 at the 15-minute mark. A black card for the impressive Jordan O’Dowd handed the visitors the initiative and despite Saint Eunan’s retreating into a defensive shell to run down the clock Aodh Ruadh soon made their dominance count. Firstly, an audacious steal by Colm McGloin saw the ball worked to Mardy McGarrigle who slalomed across the pitch before clipping over a fine score wide on the terrace side from 30 meters. Colm McGloin soon followed that up with another effort of his own and Ballyshannon were looking very comfortable. Aodh Ruadh then turned over the Saint Eunan’s kick out and Gary Carty picked the ball up just outside the D. There was plenty of work to do for the Lissacholly man, but he turned and drove at the heart of the Letterkenny defence before beating three players down the end line and slamming home at the near post to leave it at 1-3 to 0-2 to the Ballyshannon lads with five minutes remaining in the first half. A fortuitous goal for Saint Eunan's arrived some minutes later as a dropping ball clipped the underside of the crossbar and ricocheted off an unlucky Karl O’Brien. Aodh Ruadh hemmed in by the breeze struggled to gain yards after the goal and a soft free and a broken kick out saw Eunan's send over the final two points of the half to send the teams in at 1-4 to 1-3 at the interval. The opening 10 minutes of the second half mirrored the first as a pair of Saint Eunan's points were exchanged with a Mardy McGarrigle free. Then, on 42 minutes, the breakthrough arrived as Aodh Ruadh caught fire. An outstanding defensive turnover by Daire Gallagher in the full back line was expertly worked up field to Colm McGloin who played an inviting cross-field ball into the path of Darragh Dolan who checked inside to beat his man before rifling to the back of the net. Aodh Ruadh were going for the kill and turned over the resulting kick out for Colm McGloin to send over an outrageous effort on the stand side. The angle was against him but McGloin’s finish was exceptional. Not to be outdone, the following kick out was also turned over and Robbie Murphy solo-dummied past two Saint Eunan's defenders to curl over a marvellous effort with his left foot. It got even better just minutes later when another outstanding piece of defensive play was worked from the full back line up the field to the marauding Gary Carty who stormed through the Eunan’s cover to fire home his second goal of the day. Soon after, another major arrived for Aodh Ruadh, this time good work from Aonghus Sweeny to break a contested ball in midfield fell to Mardy McGarrigle who cleverly linked the play with a series of first time passes with Tiernan Dolan, Senan Rooney, and Robbie Murphy to cut Saint Eunan's apart as Murphy blasted to the back of the net. With the result effectively decided, the Ernesiders were content to soak up Saint Eunan’s pressure while still a threat on the counter, Aonghus Sweeny with another big contribution in midfield, played a ball through to Tiernan Dolan who casually checked outside to send a fine score over the bar off his left foot from 20 yards. The final say of the day was to go the way of the Ballyshannon men, Chris Goan tigerishly driving onto a breaking ball from a kick out to feed Tiernan Dolan who in turn lobbed a pass through to Gary Carty, Carty drew the Eunan's defence before teeing up Darragh Dolan who blasted home off his left foot to leave the final score 5-9 to 1-9. While they would have been relatively content with their first half showing, Aodh Ruadh were breath-taking at times in the second half and Saint Eunan’s simply could not live with their pace and clinical forward play. Colm McGloin was outstanding at wing back - his best 60 minutes in an Aodh Ruadh shirt. Darragh Dolan and Gary Carty with two goals each broke Saint Eunan’s hearts with their constant work rate up and down the pitch and were clinical when their chance arose. Mardy McGarrigle and Robbie Murphy both soldiered well chalking up vital scores. This though, was very much a team victory with a huge impact from the Aodh Ruadh bench, and the result was borne out of Aodh Ruadh’s defensive discipline and courage to take their hosts on when the chance arose. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O’Brien; Callum O’Halloran, Michael Ward, Ciaran Slevin; Colm McGloin (0-2), Daniel Warnock, Mitch McLaughlin; Tiernan Dolan (0-1), Odhran McGarrigle; Darragh Dolan (2-0), Harry Howarth, Gary Carty (2-0); Mardy McGarrigle (0-3), Sticky Ward (0-1), JJ Cassidy. Subs: Robbie Murphy (1-2) for Sticky Ward, Senan Rooney for Harry Howarth, Daire Gallagher for Ciaran Slevin, Aonghus Sweeny for JJ Cassidy, Chris Goan for Mardy McGarrigle.

On Sunday Aodh Ruadh contested their first Division 4 game of the year as Termon were the visitors to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Given the large numbers of young adult footballers in the Senior Development squad the Division 4 fixtures will hopefully prove a useful vehicle to ensure sufficient game time for the whole squad. Indeed, some of those who featured off the bench and contributed strongly in O’Donnell Park on Saturday evening were on show again on Sunday. Aodh Ruadh were much too strong for Termon in the opening exchanges, but a tricky breeze made scoring difficult and the homesters were wasteful at times. Still, Ballyshannon pieced together some nice passages of play with the highlight of the half a strong break from corner back and an expertly taken goal from Conall Bradshaw. Robbie Murphy continued his recent run of scoring to finish the day with file points, while there were eye-catching displays from Conor Foy and Shane McGloin in the full back line, and Ryan O’Brien was a very assured presence at wing back. Jake Foley worked hard and was unlucky not to end up with a couple of goals to his credit. This was a useful run out on a nice day for football with the return of some familiar faces which finished Aodh Ruadh 1-9 Termon 0-4. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O’Brien; Shane McGloin, Conor Foy, Conall Bradshaw (1-0); Oisin Kerr (0-1), Chris Goan, Ryan O’Brien (0-1); Damian Weber, Diarmuid Dolan; Caelan Drummond, Robbie Murphy (0-4), Jake Foley; Rory Gethins, Cian McKenna, David Roper. We have a gallery of shots from the game up now on aodhruadh.org.

The Division 1 league action continues this Sunday with the Aodh Ruadh making the trip to Ballybofey. The reserve game gets the proceedings under way at 1.30pm with the seniors throwing in at 3pm. Meanwhile, the Division 4 team will be taking on MacCumhaill's on Saturday at 5pm also in MacCumhaill Park.

The minors have been keeping busy with challenge games over the past while. Last week they took on Devenish and won well. The game marked the return to action of Dara McGloin and all are just thrilled to see him back playing the game he loves. Oran Gillespie had a great outing against the Fermanagh lads with Rory Cullen also putting in a good shift. Monday evening saw the squad making the trip to Leitrim to take on a strong Glencar Manorhamilton side. It was a good test and ended in a narrow win for the home team. James Monaghan and Rian McCauley and Caolan McCauley all put in a great effort over the course of a sporting contest.

Our under 15s had their second game of the division 2 league on Friday evening, at home to Naomh Bríd. The Ballyshannon boys won the game well after a solid performance against a tenacious Ballintra outfit. This Wednesday Aodh Ruadh face Melvin Gaels at 7pm in a challenge match, in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Then on Friday, the team travel to Na Rossa for the next round of the league, with all players to be in Leitir for 6pm.

The under 11 Green squad travelled to Dungloe on Saturday morning and were much too strong for the home team. The schedule for the week ahead sees training on Monday evening from 5.45pm to 6.45pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The Green squad away to Naomh Conaill on Wednesday evening at 7pm, while the White squad are at home to Bundoran on Saturday morning at 10am.

The Aodh Ruadh senior hurlers return to action in the Spring League this Friday when Setanta will be the guests in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

The minors maintained their 100 percent start to the league with a comprehensive win against Carndonagh last Thursday. The final score of 1-20 to 0-7 sees the Ballyshannon lads go joint top of the table alongside MacCumhaill's with a game in hand. They will be bidding to extend their run this Thursday when they host Burt in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, throw-in at 7.30pm.

The Aodh Ruadh under 15s were in Lisnaskea on Saturday for their Táin Óg league final. Their opposition at the Erne venue were Mayo outfit, Tooreen, club hurling only club. Ballyshannon got off to a great start with goal in their first attack of the game, and never relinquished the lead after that. Aodh Ruadh reeled off another goal and a point before Tooreen got their first score. The Ernesiders were in top form and worked their scores well, while some strong defending left the Donegal lads going in at half-time leading 4-5 to 0-2. Aodh Ruadh picked up where they left off in the second half, registering the first three scores before Tooreen got the first of their two points of the second half. The Ernesiders fluffed some scoring opportunities, but they persevered and picked off some great team scores. The final whistle sounded with Aodh Ruadh worthy winners on a 5-9 scoreline 0-4. It was a well-deserved victory which saw captain fantastic Jayden McGrath-Clyne lift the cup. This really was a great win for the lads and everyone got game time and contributed to the win, rom Jayden McGrath-Clyne in goals, who was rock solid all day, right through to Cian Doherty who was the final sub on. These are a special bunch who can now look forward to the all-Ireland Féile in Mayo on June 24th. A special mention to Garreth Brennan who received the best and fairest award after the final.

Training continues on Sunday at 11.45am for our junior groups. Hurls and helmets available and all newcomers welcome. Contact John Larkin for further information on 086-1076883.

Ladies football
Aodh Ruadh returned to winning ways in Division 1 on Sunday morning with a good win over Naomh Mhuire. The Ernesiders had built up a good lead across the course of the first half, but a goal just before the break meant that there was just six points between the sides at the turnaround. Ballyshannon came bursting out of the traps in the second half though and soon pulled well clear and saw the game out to secure a 5-10 to 1-5 victory. Sara Gallagher and Caitlin McGarrigle were outstanding in the defence. Caoimhe Keon marked her return to the midfield berth with two goals. Annalisa Rabbitte topped scored with 2-1 while Cáit Gillespie notched 1-1 and Eimear McMahon finished with a handsome haul of points. Subs Megan McGee and Meabh McCloskey both made strong impacts on their introduction. The Aodh Ruadh starting team was as follows: Brídín Maguire; Ana Keon, Sara Gallagher, Shelly Loughlin; Kate Cunningham, Caitlin McGarrigle, Hannah Doherty; Caoimhe Keon, Orla Keon; Síofra Hughes, Cáit Gillespie, Terri Gallagher; Eimear McMahon, Annalisa Rabbitte, Grainne Maguire. We have a great gallery of images from the game live now on aodhruadh.org.

The senior ladies are back in league action this Sunday when they travel to take-on Glenfin at 11.30am.

Good luck to the under 16 in their county shield semi-final against Saint Eunan's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Tuesday. Throw in is at 7pm and it would be great to see a big Ballyshannon crowd up to get behind this great team of girls.

Well done to our under 14 girls, Rachel Gillespie and Ellen Monaghan, who helped Donegal defeat Kilkenny to book their place in the All-Ireland semi-final against Wicklow. That match will be played on Saturday week. Elsewhere, hard luck to Cadhla Dolan and Ciara Larkin who lost out in the under 16 Ulster Gold final over the weekend.

Under 6 and under 8 training continues this Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. Anyone who would like to have their daughter involved, or who has questions, can contact Sarah Drummond on 083-8648342

Congratulations
Well done to Louise and Daniel McGullion on their latest addition to the clan. Ava McGullion was born last Thursday, which also happened to be birthday of her sadly missed Grandfather and club legend, John Larkin.

Football
Aodh Ruadh recorded a pro forma victory against Saint Michael's on a humid Sunday afternoon in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The first half was pedestrian fare, with the sides only able to muster four scores between them. The first of those came seven minutes when Shane Delahunty sent a delicious little chip over Mark Anthony McGinley and into the Saint Michael's net. It was a long wait until the 16th minute before the next score arrived, McGinley hammering over a long range free for the visitors. That was cancelled out a few minutes later by a sweetly struck point from Delahunty, probably the best player on show over the course of the 60 minutes. Philip Patton then added a point in first half added time to send the Ernesiders in leading by 1-2 to 0-1. The scoring rate upped only moderately in the second half and commenced with a couple of Diarmaid McInerney frees. McGinley converted another long range placed ball for the visitors, but Aodh Ruadh were getting their scores a lot easier and responded with points from David Dolan, Cian Dolan (mark), Diarmaid McInerney (free) and Shane McGrath. Hugh O'Donnell did manage to get his side's first score from play in added time and Colin McFadden drove through and added a well-taken goal, but those scores were academic as Aodh Ruadh ran out 1-8 to 1-3 victors. As mentioned, Shane Delahunty had a great game with Gary Carty making some strong runs and Niall Murray doing a lot of important defensive house-keeping. Cian Rooney worked very hard throughout and Cian Dolan kept order well in midfield. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Callum O'Halloran, Eamonn McGrath, Kyle Murray; Gary Carty, Eddie Lynch, Niall Murray; David Dolan (0-1), Cian Dolan (0-1m); Diarmaid McInerney (0-3f), Shane Delahunty (1-1), Philip Patton (0-1); Shane McGrath (0-1), Matt Gillespie, Cian Rooney. Subs: Jack Gallagher for Matt Gillespie and Donagh McIntyre for Eamonn McGrath 52 minutes; Mark McGlynn for Gary Carty 55 minutes; Colm McGloin for Cian Rooney 61 minutes.

The Division 4 team had a comprehensive win against Naomh Conaill up on the Rock on a damp Saturday afternoon. They were just too slick for the visitors and made sure that gulf was reflected on the score board. That notwithstanding it was the Glenties men who registered the first points of the evening and Aodh Ruadh had to wait until the fifth minute for Mardy McGarrigle to open their account. A minute later a raking move through the Blues defence was dispatched to the net by the hugely impressive Darragh Dolan to give his side a lead they would not relinquish. The scores came slow enough after that with Robbie Murphy and Mardy McGarrigle swapping points with in the run up to half time. Ballyshannon came with a quick-fire 1-2 in the five minutes before the break. First Harry Howarth found the range, and then came the score of the game. This was a beautiful worked move by Harry Howarth, Mardy McGarrigle, Oisin Kerr and Colm McGloin which had the Glenties defence in a real spin. It was rifled to the net by Shane McGloin, who was coolness itself when the opportunity presented itself. A free from Robbie Murphy and a JJ Cassidy effort from play then made the half time scores Aodh Ruadh 2-6 Naomh Conaill 0-5. Ballyshannon, in their black tops, grabbed the first two points of the new half thanks to Robbie Murphy and Mardy McGarrigle before Glenties found a response. The homesters were dominating matters now and had points on the board from Spanny Goan, James Gallagher, Mardy McGarrigle and Aonghus Sweeny before Naomh Conaill mustered a free in answer. That was cancelled out in emphatic fashion though when Harry Howarth reacted quickest to drill the ball to the net for his side's third of the game. Stephen McGrath and JJ Cassidy added further points, before Naomh Conaill registered a late 1-1, but by that stage the result had been long decide and it finished Aodh Ruadh 3-14 Naomh Conaill 1-8. It was a very dominant display from the home side, who were aided by some errant shooting by the Glenties men. Darragh Dolan really looked the part at wing forward and other young players such as James Gallagher, Daire Gallagher and Shane McGloin also put in very strong performances. Up front, Mardy McGarrigle, Robbie Murphy and Harry Howarth made great use of the plentiful ball in. The Aodh Ruadh team was as follows: Karl O'Brien; Daire Gallagher, Conor Foy, Shane McGloin; James Gallagher, Spanny Goan, Ryan O'Brien; Aonghus Sweeny, Colm McGloin; Darragh Dolan, Mardy McGarrigle, Oisin Kerr; Harry Howarth, Robbie Murphy, JJ Cassidy. Subs used: Cian McKenna, Jake Foley, Conall Bradshaw, Stephen McGrath, Caelan Drummond. We have a gallery of shots from the game live now on aodhruadh.org.

The Division 1 league action continues this weekend with the visit of Saint Michael's to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The reserve game gets the proceedings under way at 1.30pm with the seniors throwing in at 3pm. Meanwhile, the Division 4 team will be taking on Naomh Conaill on Saturday at 7.30pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Our under 15 boys had an away trip to Leiter on Friday evening to take on Na Rossa in the Division 2 league. Having beaten the hosts twice already this year in Féile, our boys were favourites to once again come out on top. But it was Na Rossa who looked the stronger team in the opening five minutes, going 1-2 to no score ahead. That seemed to waken our lads up, and we began to play much better after that, with a goal of our own getting us back in the game. We went in at half-time three points up, and continued to play well against a dogged Na Rossa team, running out convincing winners in the end.
On Monday evening the under 15s had a challenging match away to Saint Naul's, where they had to fight hard for victory. The game started off with a sloppy first 30 minutes, resulting in the Ernesiders trailing by a single point as half-time approached. However, a strong finish to the first half saw Aodh Ruadh score a couple of crucial points, allowing them to enter the break with a narrow one-point advantage. The second half witnessed a significant improvement in Aodh Ruadh's performance, particularly in the midfield. They quickly capitalised on their momentum, scoring two goals and a number of points in quick succession, which created some much-needed breathing space between the two sides. Despite the visitor's efforts, Saint Nauls continued to battle valiantly, refusing to give up. Their determination paid off with a late goal, putting pressure on Aodh Ruadh until the final whistle. The boys from Ballyshannon kept their shape and discipline though, to see out a hard-fought four point victory.
The under 15s will be home to Naomh Mhuire this Friday evening, with a 7pm throw in at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Both under 11 squads were in action during the week playing in two very competitive games with our Green squad travelling to Glenties on Wednesday evening and the White squad at home to Bundoran on Saturday morning. Both squads have training on Monday evenings from 5.45pm to 6.45pm. The Green squad have two games this week. They will be home to Ardara on Wednesday evening at 7pm and then home to Killybegs Saturday morning at 11am. The White squad will play an internal game on Saturday morning from 9.30am to 10.30am. Further details will be posted on the team's WhatsApp group.

Setanta emerged with the spoils from Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Friday evening, but the homesters gave them a game challenge in the early stages. Aodh Ruadh got off to a good start with point from Gareth Sheerin (0-2), Cian McKenna and Senan Rooney taking them into an early lead. Setanta edged in front with the help of a goal in sixth minute, but Aodh Ruadh jumped back in front with a three pointer from Shane Brady. The Ernesiders had further points from Cian McKenna and Gareth Sheerin over the remainder of the half, but Setanta went on the goal trail and by the break they had run up a 4-8 to 1-6 advantage. Setanta cut loose in the second half and although Aodh Ruadh continued to pick off sporadic points, the Killygordon men were scoring much more freely and were full value for their 5-20 to 1-11 final victory. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Kieran Daly; Callum Ayres, Aaron Neilan; Adam Rami, Caelan Drummond, Ryan O’Brien; Senan Rooney (0-1), Cian McKenna (0-2); Gareth Sheerin (0-6), Deva Ayres, Rory Cullen; Shane Brady (1-2), Martin Larkin. We have a gallery of images from the match up on aodhruadh.org now. Aodh Ruadh have their final game of the Grand Canal Spring League this Friday in Carndonagh at 7.30pm.

The minors took on the might of Burt last Thursday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh and came out on top on a scoreline of 2-9 to 1-8. It was a tough, physical battle for this quite young side and a great win to get under their belts. They will hope to maintain this unbeaten form when they welcome Saint Eunan's this Thursday evening.

Congratulations to the 10 under 15 lads who lined out with the Donegal team in their Hibernian Cup clash with Mayo in O'Donnell Park on Saturday. This team is really starting to come together and they have improved remarkably in the past month. Donegal led for over two-thirds of the match, but a contentious goal deep into the last third saw them slip behind. They battled on but lost out by two points in a final score of 3-12 to 3-14 with all but one of the scores courtesy of three Aodh Ruadh players - Daithi Sheerin, Corey Sheridan and Shay Winters.

Training resumed last weekend for our under 11s, under 9s and under 7s after a short break and will continue for the under 9s and under 7s this coming Sunday at the usual time of 11.45am. The under 11s are preparing for a Go game against MacCumhaill's in Ballybofey with details yet to be confirmed.

A big shout out to our two under 11 stars of the future - Freddie Knott and Ryan Dolan, who took to the field at the half-time break during the senior hurling clash between Donegal and Wicklow in O'Donnell Park. The lads really enjoyed the experience.

Ladies football
The Division 1 Aodh Ruadh ladies overcame a somnolent first half to step things up a gear and rattle last year's senior county finalists in Páirc Taobhoige on Sunday morning. Gráinne Maguire split the posts with the game's first score, but the first half was dominated by a Glenfin side playing with the aid of the slight slope and a mild breeze. They hit four points between the third and eighth minute to ease themselves into the lead and then in the 13th minute they netted their first goal. Glenfin were stringing together some nice passages of play and, with Ballyshannon chasing shadows, they were picking off points at their leisure. They had 1-7 on the board before Aodh Ruadh came with a rally late in the half. Eimear McMahon, Gráinne Maguire and Cáit Gillespie all raised white flags, but Glenfin cancelled those out with a goal shortly before the break to leave it 2-7 to 0-4 at the turn-around. The second half saw a transformed Aodh Ruadh. Eimear McMahon got the first two points on the resumption, but the 35th minute saw the hosts erase that with a rapid 1-1 salvo. The Shamettes didn't drop the heads though and Cáit Gillespie notched 2-1 between the 37th and 41st minutes. Sara Gallagher was then fouled going through on goal and Eimear McMahon whipped a wicked shot past the excellent Glenfin net-minder to make it 3-8 to 3-7. Glenfin steadied and opened the gap back to six points with 1-2, but then Gráinne Maguire was illegally halted on her way through to goal and once again McMahon hammered an unstoppable spot kick past the keeper. Aodh Ruadh pushed hard for a levelling score, but time ran out and so it finished Glenfin 4-10 Aodh Ruadh 3-10. Saoirse McDevitt, Kate Cunningham, Gráinne Maguire and Terri Gallagher helped keep the visitors going in the first half, but the second half was much more of a team performance. Sara Gallagher and Hannah Doherty were superb in the defence and Annalisa Rabbitte gave presence in the midfield. Up front Cáit Gillespie and Eimear McMahon really made their chances count.

The adult Aodh Ruadh ladies have a break until Sunday June 11th before their next fixtures. Both sides will be at home that day with the Division 1 game against Ardara getting the action under way at 10am, with the Division 3 game against Kilcar throwing it at 11.30am.

The under 16s booked their place in the Division 1 shield final with victory over Saint Eunan's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh last Tuesday evening. The Ballyshannon girls led throughout, but were made to work for their win by a tenacious Letterkenny side. The Shamettes got off the mark three minutes in when the excellent Katie McGowan burst through and fired over, with Roise Conlon slipping over shortly after. Saint Eunan's answered that with their first point of the game, but Katie McGowan hit the net two minutes later to put some early daylight between the sides. Points from Cadhla Dolan and Ciara Larkin (2) followed and a point from the visitors made it 1-5 to 0-2 moving into the second quarter. The scoring pace dropped in that quarter, but Emily McNamee was rewarded for an industrious display with a well taken point to put seven points between the sides. The O'Donnell Park girls rallied in the run up to the break and hit three points with only a Cadhla Dolan score in reply. That saw the teams head for their team talks with the score board reading Aodh Ruadh 1-7 Saint Eunan's 0-5. Ciara Larkin gave Aodh Ruadh the perfect opening to the new half, chipping over a point. Not long after that the Ernesiders put together their best move of the game with Jessica O'Mahoney and Katie McGowan combining to set up Rachel Gillespie to rifle to the net. Scores were at a premium over the remainder of the half with Saint Eunan's picking off sporadic points and only Ciara Larkin managing to register for the homesters. The final scoring action of the day went Aodh Ruadh's way though, with Ciara Larkin being fouled for penalty and Cadhla Dolan showing great technique to dispatch the spot kick. That saw Aodh Ruadh sealing a merited 3-9 to 0-8 victory, a result which sets up a Division 1 shield final clash against old sparring partners Ardara in what will be eagerly anticipated decider. Laoise Foy was the foundation for the win with a superb performance between the posts, while Megan Murphy, Andrea Moore and Jessica O'Mahoney showed superb reading of the game and great defensive awareness. Lauren Foy and Katie McGowan had a great day in the middle of the park, while up front Emily McNamee and Ciara Larkin caused the opposition constant problems. We wish the squad the best of luck in the decider against Ardara this Tuesday, 23rd May, in Donegal town. We urge a big showing of support to make it to Tir Chonaill Park to get behind the girls in what is sure to be a tightly fought contest. Check out aodhruadh.org for a gallery of pictures from the semi-final.

Under 6 and under 8 training continues this Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. Anyone who would like to have their daughter involved, or who has questions, can contact Sarah Drummond on 083-8648342.

Football
Aodh Ruadh backed up last week's win over Saint Michael's with an even more comprehensive victory, this time against MacCumhaill's down in Ballybofey. They really cut loose in the second half to run out impressive 5-10 to 0-5 winners and maintain their positive early season momentum. Aodh Ruadh had it all their own way in the first half, with the hosts unable to put the umpires to work at all. A David Dolan goal was complimented by points from Jack Gallagher, Philip Patton, Eoghan Kelly and Cian Rooney to give the Ernesiders a 1-4 to 0-0 interval advantage. Matters didn't improve for MacCumhaill's in the second half with Matt Gillespie, Philip Patton and Donagh McIntyre points early on making the mountain to climb even steeper. The homesters did manage to register five points in that second 30 minutes, but it was Ballyshannon who were dictating. A Donagh McIntyre goal made it 2-8 to 0-3 as the game moved into the final quarter. Cian Rooney then gilded an excellent individual performance with a brilliantly taken goal before teeing up his comrade, Philip Patton, to find the net. Eoghan Kelly piled on the misery for the Ballybofey men with a fifth goal before points from Matt Gillespie and Cian Rooney drew the curtain down on the scoring. A very convincing outing from the Aodh Ruadh men, team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Eoghan Kelly (1-1), Niall Murray, Mark McGlynn; Gary Carty, Eddie Lynch, Shane McGrath; Cian Dolan, David Dolan (1-0); Diarmaid McInerney (0-1f), Shane Delahunty, Philip Patton (1-2); Jack Gallagher (0-1), Cian Rooney (1-2), Matt Gillespie (0-2). Subs: Donagh McIntyre (1-1), Callum O'Halloran, Colm McGloin.

Meanwhile the Reserves maintained their 100 percent start to the season with a hard fought 2-11 to 2-9 win over MacCumhaill's. Aodh Ruadh got off to the perfect start, Darragh Dolan winning a breaking ball from a throw-in and a quick interchange of passing from Damian Weber and Sticky Ward released Colm McGloin to come driving through the 21 to rifle to the top corner. Aodh Ruadh’s lead was short lived though as MacCumhaill's found the back of the net mere minutes later with a clever diagonal ball bamboozling the Aodh Ruadh rearguard for the hosts to score from close range. Sticky Ward replied for Aodh Ruadh, but MacCumhaill's responded immediately with another three pointer as a long-range effort at a point dropped fortuitously into the back of the Aodh Ruadh net with 10 minutes gone. The sides went tit for tat for the remainder of the half with Aodh Ruadh hitting some excellent scores. Damian Weber landed two points and Sticky Ward curled over a sumptuous effort off his left foot from a tricky angle to leave a goal between the sides at half time 2-5 to 1-5. Aodh Ruadh were more aggressive in the second half and getting more joy out of both kick outs and started reeling MacCumhaill's in. A Robbie Murphy brace and a Callum O’Halloran fisted point drew Aodh Ruadh level before a Sticky Ward improvised volley put the Ernesiders a point ahead. Shortly after, Aodh Ruadh’s pressure yielded a major return with a good move from Darragh Dolan and Colm McGloin worked to Cathal Kelly to slam home from close range to leave Aodh Ruadh three points up coming down the stretch. MacCumhaill's rallied well though and chalked up two points on the spin before Damian Weber hit the score of the game from some 45 metres into the Town end and Robbie Murphy sent over his third of the day. Aodh Ruadh were in control but the Ballybofey men rallied again to leave the minimum between the sides with the clock well into injury time. The Ballyshannon lads were cool in possession though and worked one final chance for Cathal Kelly to send over to leave two between them as it finished Aodh Ruadh 2-11 MacCumhaill's 2-9. Colm McGloin was an assured presence in centre field while up front Sticky Ward, Robbie Murphy, Cathal Kelly, and Damian Weber hit important scores when they were needed. Meanwhile at the back Daire Gallagher put in a tigerish display and was a great outlet going forward in the second half. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O'Brien; Conor Foy, Michael Ward, Daire Gallagher; Callum O’Halloran (0-1), Ciaran Slevin, Ryan O’Brien; Colm McGloin (1-0), Tiernan Dolan; Darragh Dolan, Damian Weber (0-4), Cathal Kelly (1-1); JJ Cassidy, Sticky Ward (0-3), Robbie Murphy (0-3). Subs: Aidan Sweeney for Ciaran Slevin, Aonghus Sweeney for Sticky Ward, Diarmuid Dolan for Ryan O’Brien, Spanny Goan for Callum O’Halloran.

The Division 1 senior and reserve footballers have a well-deserved break this weekend with their campaigns set to resume with the visit of Killybegs to Ballyshannon on Saturday, June 10th.

The Division 4 team's clash with MacCumhaill's was rescheduled to this Friday at 7.30pm in MacCumhaill Park.

Our under 15 boys met fellow Division 2 table toppers Naomh Mhuire last Friday night in what was expected to be a very tight match. Aodh Ruadh were missing several players due to injury and holidays, which was sure to make the task even tougher. The game was very open, with both teams playing an attacking game with plenty of pace. Three first half goals for Naomh Mhuire left them four points ahead at half-time. Things got worse for Aodh Ruadh in the third quarter, and we looked dead and buried with 16 minutes left when we went 10 points down. However, this team showed again that they have a great never-say-die spirit, and two well-timed quick-fire goals set the tie up for a nail-biting finish. Aodh Ruadh finished the stronger, reeling off four unanswered points, and seeing the game out for a hard-fought two-point win. The squad train on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 7pm, and continue in Division 2 league action on Friday, away to Bundoran with a 7pm throw-in.

Both under 11 squads were busy over the past weekend. The White squad took part in an internal game on Saturday morning with the boys putting in a tremendous effort. The Green squad were at home to Killybegs and continued in their rich vein of form, proving too strong for the visitors. The schedule for the week ahead sees both squads training on Monday from 5.45pm to 6.45pm at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The White squad are away to Mountcharles on Wednesday evening at 7pm, while the Green squad will have tournament on Bank holiday Monday in Ardara at 10.30am. Further details in relation to the blitz will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

Well done to our under 9s who travelled to Donegal town for an enjoyable blitz in very summery conditions on Monday evening. The boys are back on their travels this Wednesday when Glenties will be the destination.

Aodh Ruadh wrapped up their Grand Canal Spring League campaign with a share of the spoils at the County Centre of Excellence on Friday evening. The Ballyshannon men had to show all their battling qualities to earn their point, with a late run of goals catching Carndonagh at the death. The first half was a helter skelter affair with the Inishowen outfit having the better of possession, but Aodh Ruadh being more economical with their scoring opportunities. Gareth Sheerin sent his side into an early lead two minutes in, but Carn hit three without reply to erase that advantage. Points from Shane Brady, Adam Rami and Martin Larkin helped keep Aodh Ruadh in the hunt though, and by half-time there was just a point between them, Carndonagh leading 0-7 to 0-6. Carn pushed on in the third quarter but Aaron Neilan, Kyle McNulty, Caelan Drummond and Gareth Sheerin ensured Ballyshannon stayed in striking distance of the leaders. That good work looked to be undone when Carndonagh hit the net to stretch their lead to six points with the clock running down. Aodh Ruadh rolled up their sleeves though and Caelan Drummond raised the green flag with a fantastic strike to leave a goal in it. Then, three minutes into added time, Gareth Sheerin then stood up to a 60 metre which he lofted directly into the back of the net to level the game. It was a deserved result for this squad of players who have consistently given their all throughout the league and shown commendable commitment. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Kenzie Ayres; Ciaran Rami, Adam Rami (0-1); Callum Ayres, Caelan Drummond (1-1), Kyle McNulty; Cian McKenna, Ryan O’Brien; Gareth Sheerin (1-5f), Aaron Neilan (0-1), Rory Cullen; Shane Brady (0-1), Martin Larkin (0-1). Sub: Jason Patterson. The senior hurlers attention now turns to the Cúchullain Cup where they are competing in Group 3 against MacCumhaill's, Monaghan Harps, Clontibret and Tyrone side Tulach Óg. The first fixture is slated for Wednesday, 7th June, against Clontibret.

The minors had a tough outing last Thursday when they came up against a strong, well-drilled Saint Eunan's team in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The visitors led from the off with an early goal and our lads struggled to keep up with a bigger and stronger side. Following some excellent free-taking from the Letterkenny men, their lead was extended. The Ballyshannon lads never gave up, but went down in the end on a scoreline of 0-7 to 1-12. Nevertheless, they are delighted to have topped the table and will progress to the county final against MacCumhaill's in a few weeks time. We have a gallery of pictures from the game live on aodhruadh.org.

Ladies football
The adult Aodh Ruadh ladies are on a break until Sunday June 11th before their next fixtures. Both sides will be at home that day with the Division 1 game against Ardara getting the action under way at 10am, with the Division 3 game against Kilcar throwing it at 11.30am.

It has been confirmed that the minor competition will commence on Tuesday, 11th July.

The under 16s took on Ardara in the county Division 1 shield final in Donegal town last Tuesday. They battled hard, but paid the price for a slow start and although they did a great job of reeling the Pearse Park girls in, ultimately they gave themselves too much to do. Ardara steadily picked off scores over the course of the first quarter, while Aodh Ruadh struggled to find the target. By the time Ballyshannon had finally opened their account thanks to a deftly taken Rachel Gillespie goal in the 18th minute, Ardara had already run up a 2-3 head start. Gillespie and Cadhla Dolan followed up that goal with a couple of nice points, but Ardara kept ahead with an answering point. The Ernesiders did close back into within two points four minutes from half-time thanks to a well-constructed goal with Katie McGowan and Cadhla Dolan combining to set up Emily McNamee to slip to the back of the net and make it 2-4 to 2-2. Ardara came back with two goals before the break though, and the sides turned around with Ardara sitting on a double scores lead of 4-4 to 2-2. The second half was very tense, with scores much harder to come by. The Aodh Ruadh defence put in a magnificent shift, restricting the leaders to just three further points. Ballyshannon had a beautifully converted penalty from Cadhla Dolan and scores from Ciara Larkin, but they could never close fully with the leaders, and so Ardara ran out victors on 4-7 to 3-4 scoreline. Katie McGowan was player of the match for Aodh Ruadh with a typically defiant and pugnacious display. Emily McNamee also gave a terrific showing at wing forward while Andrea Moore and Lauren Foy also gave their all in the middle third. In defence Megan Murphy and Aodhbha O'Donnell did well to contain a strong, physical Ardara attacking unit. A tough defeat to take for the girls, but they gave a great account of themselves all year and made a lot of progress.

Our under 14s return to competitive action this Saturday when they host Dungloe in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, time to be confirmed. Hard luck to the county under 14s who came up just short against Wicklow in the All-Ireland Bronze final in Monaghan last Saturday, the Garden county prevailing on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-9. We are very proud of our five girls who represented the club on the squad superbly all year. Well done to Emma O’Donnell, Ellen Monaghan, Laoise Foy, Cadhla Gillespie and Rachel Gillespie

Our under 12 girls entertained Four Masters for a blitz in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Monday evening. The conditions were beautiful and over 60 players lined out for their clubs. Thanks to Éabha Rogers and Katie McGowan who refereed the games which were played in a great spirit.

The under 10s are currently busy preparing for a blitz on Wednesday, 7th June, in Donegal town.

Under 6 and under 8 training continues this Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. Please note, this will be our last session before the summer break.

Camogie meeting
The club was delighted to host Hilda Breslin, Uachtarán of the Camogie Association, at Father Tierney Park last Saturday. She met with William Doogan, Tom Daly, Melissa McGee, Sharon McDonald, Ellen McGarrigle and Hannah McGarrigle. She enjoyed a tour of the club facilities and discussed the rising interest in the game in the Ballyshannon area. An important meeting regarding the revival of camogie in the club will take place on Tuesday, 6th June, at 8pm in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. Everyone in the area interested in seeing camogie return should attend this meeting.
