Football
The under 17s went down on a scoreline of 3-9 to 3-6 against Saint Naul's on Monday evening.

Our under 15 boys travelled to Kilcar on Friday evening for round two of the championship. We played against a very strong wind in the first half, playing some good football and working hard. We went in at half time all level at six points each. Our lads started slowly in the second half, and failed to take advantage of the wind. Kilcar’s running game was bearing fruit, and they went three up with 10 minutes remaining. A missed Aodh Ruadh penalty and a great save from a Kilcar penalty added to the drama. Aodh Ruadh finished strongly, but time caught us in the end, as we went down by the minimum margin, 0-11 to 0-10. Our final championship group game is this Friday, away to Glenswilly, throw in at 7pm.

The under 13s Division 1 charges were out on a wet July evening this Wednesday past, in tough testing conditions. Giving that the ever dependable full back Marko Branley was sidelined through injury it was going to take finding an extra gear from all the lads to fill the void his absence had created. Shipping a goal straight from the throw in set the the tone for the evening with Four Masters boys adding a further three majors and five points to our eight points on a final score of Four Masters 4-5 Aodh Ruadh 0-8. Credit to the lads they never gave up the fight, but unfortunately lack of consistency was to be our undoing. We had to live off scraps, mainly frees and 45s as any effort to breach their defence was thwarted one way or another.
Alistair Cian had a solid game considering he was the busier of the two keepers. Iarla Hartin, Alex Kerrigan, Michael McGrath attempted to shore up the defence despite the constant threats, with Dylan Cullen, Anthony Duffy, Jack Hassett and Dara McCready driving forward at every opportunity but meeting stiff resistance at all times. Oisin McGrath, Alfie McGowan, Manus Conlon and Conor McGloin just couldn't get the break needed for our forward unit to hurt the Donegal town lads on the scoreboard. Senan Ward, John McHugh and Conor Grimes were their usual industrious selves when introduced of the bench with Senan Ward particularly notable.
The under 13 Division 3 team went down 5-7 to 1-12 to a strong Ardara side in Páirc an Phiarsaigh last Wednesday evening. A below par first half, in which they conceded four goals, cost the young Aodh Ruadh side dearly. The Ballyshannon men started brightly with a superb point from Donnacha Conlon, quickly followed by a second from Louis Hassett. Soon after Ardara’s tactic of swarming the defence and breaking at speed paid dividends as they netted the first goal of the game. Some standoffish defending allowed the Ardara men in for a second a couple of minutes later which they followed up with two quick points. Aodh Ruadh got further points from Conlon (2), McGuinness and Diarmuid Fox. However, two further goals before half time meant the Ballyshannon men went into the break eight points behind.
An early second half goal from Donnacha Conlon and two pointed 45s from the trusty left boot of Diarmuid Fox brought Aodh Ruadh back into the game. The half back line of McGrath, Aiden McGurrin and Peter Mulligan began to get to grips with the powerful Ardara half forward line and two further Aodh Ruadh points reduced the deficit to just one point. However, Ardara hit back with two point points of their own. Both teams traded points for the next 10 minutes leaving four points between the teams coming in the finally five minutes. Aodh Ruadh went searching for a goal which just wouldn’t come. In fact, it was Ardara who netted just on the final whistle to give them a flattering seven point win.
Pauric McGrath and Donnacha Conlon impressed in what was a much improved second half for Aodh Ruadh, while Phelim Barron’s pinpoint accuracy from kick outs provided a constant platform from which to attack.
The Division 1 and Division 3 teams are at home in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Wednesday evening at 6pm and 7.30pm respectively with a big home support needed. Training continues on Monday from 7pm to 8pm and Friday from 6pm to 7.15pm both in Munday's.

The under 11 Green squad hosted Four Masters on Saturday morning. Despite the wet conditions, the boys continue to make great strides, with both teams coming out on top. Training continues as normal on Monday and Wednesday evening from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

This year is the 25th year anniversary of the 1998 Aodh Ruadh Senior Championship winning team and they gathered last Friday to rekindle memories of the victory. Big thanks to Slevin's who supplied tops to mark the occasion. The squad played a round of golf in Bundoran, before dinner in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh followed by a memorable evening in Melly's.

Well done to Aodh Ruadh exile, Jason Kane, on helping fire Asia to the men's Shield title at the GAA World Games held in Owenbeg last week.

Congratulations to Sean Kelly on winning the All-Ireland ticket and hotel stay in last week's draw! Thanks to all who entered and everyone who helped with organisation and sales.

Ladies
The under 14s have their Shield semi-final match against Carndonagh which is scheduled for this Wednesday at 7pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Hurling
The under 15s got their league campaign off to the perfect start last week with a 2-16 to 0-6 win over Burt. This week they host Buncrana on Thursday at 7pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

The under 11s have had a busy couple of weeks, and this week was no different, last Tuesday they played a mini blitz in Convoy taking on Burt and Carndonagh. In two highly competitive games, our boys performed very well, with plenty of game time for the whole squad. The players have shown a massive improvement over the last couple of months. They took on Cluainín Manorhamilton on Sunday morning in Manorhamilton, and again performed very well. There were sone very strong performances right through out the team, but particular mention to our backs who hooked and blocked and worked hard for the full game. On Tuesday they are travelling to Grange for another challenge and are due to welcome Letterkenny Gaels this Thursday evening.

Our under 9s had a week off, but will return to training this Sunday at 11.45am. As always, any new players are always welcome!

Our under 7s travelled to Convoy to take part in the all-county blitz on Sunday. We had two teams playing, and each player acquitted themselves very well. Games were against Setanta, Carndonagh, Burt, Saint Eunan's and MacCumhaill's. This Sunday we will host a blitz in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, the action will start at 10.30am, and all details will be in the team WhatsApp group.

Football
Sunday saw our Division 4 side bring back the first adult men's silverware to the club since the intermediate championship triumph in 2020. Aodh Ruadh took on Pettigo in Ballintra in the league decider after a strong run through the round robin stages with a good crowd present for the derby clash. On the day the Ballyshannon's greater economy in front of the posts proved the difference, with Pettigo spurning some good chances. Pettigo played with the wind in the first half, but it was Cathal 'Fez' Kelly who nicked the opening score for Aodh Ruadh. Pettigo answered with two points, but captain Dan Warnock restored parity. Again the men in maroon edged in front but the Ernesiders levelled once more through Damian Weber. Weber then raised the game's first green flag with a goal following a slick exchange of passes with Aonghus Sweeney. Another point from Sticky Ward then saw Aodh Ruadh taking a 1-4 to 0-4 lead in at the turn-around. Pettigo came out like a train after the break and were unlucky not to square up the game after a great goal chance went a-begging. However, it was the Ernesiders who would push on, and they tagged on points from Weber (2) and Ward for a 1-7 to 0-4 lead going into the final quarter. Pettigo got a lifeline with a goal ten minutes from time, but once more points from Ward and Weber pushed Aodh Ruadh back into the comfort zone. Pettigo did manage some answering points, but the tie was finally decided when Damian Weber picked out the unmarked Tiernan Flood Dolan and he made no mistake as he rattled the net. Captain Dan Warnock raised the trophy alongside Oisin Kerr, son of Colman Kerr who was huge player and personality in Third team triumphs in years past. It was a landmark day also for Sticky Ward and Kerry Ryan who have now won Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4 medals. The winning Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Aiden Murray; Shane McGloin, Oisin Kerr, Aidan Sweeny; Tiarnan Flood Dolan (1-0), Chris Goan, Daniel Warnock (0-1); Aonghus Sweeny, Kerry Ryan; Darragh Flood Dolan, Caelan Drummond, JJ Cassidy; Damian Weber (1-4, 3f), Michael 'Sticky' Ward (0-3), Cathal Kelly (0-1). Subs: James Gallagher for Kerry Ryan; Ciaran Slevin for Chris Goan; Luke Carr for Shane McGloin; Diarmaid Flood Dolan for Oisin Kerr; Harry Howarth for Caelan Drummond. Check out aodhruadh.org for a great gallery of pictures from the day.

Fixtures have been confirmed for Aodh Ruadh's opening two championship games. The first takes place on Sunday, 20th August, at 2pm in Tir Chonaill Park against Four Masters, with the second on Saturday, 26th August at 5pm in Ballyshannon.

The under 17s went down on a scoreline of 7-11 to 0-8 against Ardara on Monday evening. They will be hosting Naomh Colmcille next Monday at 7pm.

Our final under 15 group championship game took place on Friday evening, away against Glenswilly. This was expected to be a difficult challenge for our lads against the table toppers, however it was our boys who started the stronger. We went into an early two point lead, but were sucker punched when Glenswilly pounced for a fortuitous goal. Our lads continued to impress, and played with intensity, taking a great goal and some beautiful points. However a Glenswilly goal just before half time left us trailing by a three points at the turn-around, 2-7 to 1-7. The Ballyshannon lads battled bravely in the second half, and never gave up, but Glenswilly finished the stronger, running out 3-11 to 1-9 winners. The under 15s now play Buncrana in the championship shield semi-final, with fixture details still to be confirmed. Training continues for the squad this week at the normal times.

On Wednesday evening the under 13 division 1 team wrapped up the Southern Division League with a home defeat to a strong Ardara team on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-12. A defeat that meant the team narrowly missed out on the divisional decider. In a closely contested first half the home team were three points down going in at the break. However, the Aodh Ruadh lads conceded two second half goals which put the game out of reach. On anevening that was ideal for football in Páirc Aoidh Ruadh, Ardara on the balance were deserved winners even though Aodh Ruadh did have purple patches at the end of either half. Aodh Ruadh scorers on the evening included Dylan Cullen, Darragh McCready, Anthony Duffy and Manus Conlon. Strong performances from Senan Ward, Dylan Cullen and Alex Kerrigan on the evening were the highlight as attention will now turn to the all-county league.
The under 13 Division 3 team finished out their league campaign with a win on Wednesday and then a loss to Dungloe on Sunday. The lads performed very well versus Na Rossa and won the game on scoreline of 6-11 to 2-12. With some great performances by John McHugh, Louis Hassett and Donnacha Conlon. Ciarán McGuinness and Dara McGuinness soldiered well through the middle, while Daniel McLoone, Tom Travers and Aiden McGurrin saw plenty of ball. Unfortunately, the Aodh Ruadh charges came up short in Dungloe on Sunday on a scoreline of 3-15 to 2-9 with that scoreline flattering the hosts a little. Aodh Ruadh had reined in the home team to three points with 10 minutes left, but ran out of steam conceding a goal and few points near the end. Alistair Cian had a strong second half showing in at full back with other strong performances coming from Aiden McGurrin, Pauric McGrath and Phelim Barron. Throughout the league campaign the team was ably bolstered by an under 11 contingent which were a stalwart and necessary help, and those lads will be an important factor to the squad as the team prepares for the championship.

Under 11 training continues as normal on Monday and Wednesday from 5.45pm to 6.45pm. Both squads will be in action on Saturday morning with home fixtures against Naomh Columba and Naomh Conail. Further details will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

The under 9 Mick Shannon tournament took place last weekend. We hosted 200 kids from 10 different clubs covering three counties. A great day of football was had by all and thankfully the weather stayed dry. Snacks and refreshments were served afterwards and everybody had a great day. Feedback from all the other participating clubs was very positive. Many thanks to all who helped with the organisation in whatever capacity. We have a great gallery of pictures from the tournament up on aodhruadh.org.

Hurling
Aodh Ruadh exited the intermediate championship at the hands of a dominant MacCumhaill's outfit in Killygordon last Friday. Playing in poor, wet conditions the Ballybofey men had 2-5 chalked up before Aodh Ruadh registered a score. That was a Gareth Sheerin free, a point which was to be Ballyshannon's only score of the half. MacCumhaill's tagged on another 1-5 to lead by 3-10 to 0-1 at the interval. The second half saw the Ernesiders registering a little more frequently, but it wasn't enough to trouble MacCumhaill's in any meaningful fashion and the Twin Towns side ran out 4-17 to 0-4 winners to set up an intermediate championship decider against Carndonagh. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Kenzie Ayres; Adam Clarke, Adam Rami, Aaron Neilan: Ciaran Rami, Caelan Drummond, James Gallagher; Ryan Ayres, Kyle McNulty (0-1); Gareth Sheerin (0-3f), Cian McKenna, Rory Cullen; Martin Larkin, Deva Ayres, Shane Brady. Subs: Pauric Keenaghan for Adam Rami, Calum Ayres for Shane Brady, Aaron Wymbs-McGowan for Martin Larkin.

Our minors are back in action this week with a third round Táin Óg match at home against Coolera / Strandhill, throw-in at 7pm.

Football
Build-up continues for our seniors and reserves championship first round outings on Sunday, 20th August, at 2pm in Tir Chonaill Park against Four Masters. The teams are out again on Saturday, 26th August at 5pm in Ballyshannon against Gaoth Dobhair, a reprise of last year's championship quarter-final.

The under 17s were in dominant form as they accounted for Naomh Colmcille 4-14 to 0-4 in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Monday evening. They laid down an early marker as Ted O'Donnell came storming through the middle and blasted the ball to the net after just 50 seconds. The Newtowncunningham lads came straight back with a point, but that was to be as good as it got for the visitors. A Sean Cassidy free was followed by another thumping goal from midfielder O'Donnell in the fourth minute. Dara McGloin, and Odhran Gillespie raised white flags before a fine individual effort from James Monaghan. The Reds notched a second point in the 17th minute, but that was answered with interest by points from Seand Cassidy, Dara McGloin and Garvey Meade to make it 2-7 to 0-2 at the interval. The second half looked like it was going to be the Sean Cassidy show at one stage. He slotted the half's first point. Naomh Colmcille did respond in the 34th with a point, but Cassidy hit back with two frees before taking a lovely pass from James Ward and firing to the net. Cassidy added one from play moving into the final quarter, and that was followed by points for James Monaghan, Garvey Meade and Tommy Clyne. Naomh Colmcille nabbed the last score of the game, but the result for this one was decided some distance out. Great performances right across the pitch for Aodh Ruadh from Corey Sheridan between the posts, with James Monaghan and James Ward powering an extremely potent half back line. Ted O'Donnell and Garvey Meade dominated at midfield, while Sean Cassidy was the attacking pivot with good contributions from Odhran Gillespie, Dara McGloin, Ben Daly and Eoin Doogan. The minors will be travelling to take on Naomh Columba next Monday at 7pm.

Our under 15 boys will train as normal Monday and Wednesday. We await a play-off between Letterkenny Gaels and Buncrana to see who we play in our championship shield semi-final. Details will be posted on the team WhatsApp group as soon as they become available.

On Wednesday evening the under 13 Division 1 team make the long journey to Buncrana to play the quarter-final of the All-County league. On Saturday Aodh Ruadh are hosting the annual Willie Rogers memorial tournament where we will be welcoming eight other clubs to take part in the blitz, with the first games throwing up at 10am. All support welcome for what promises to be cracking day of football as it is every year.

Under 11 training continues as normal on Monday evening from 5.45pm to 6.45pm. There will be no training on Wednesday evening for this week only. Some 26 of our 2012 born boys will travel to Croke Park on Wednesday for a blitz involving six teams from Donegal. The boys will get to play four games on the pitch and we wish them all the best for what will be a great experience.

Ladies
Preparations continue for our ladies championship opening games. The junior team will be in action first, away to Kilcar this Sunday, 20th August in their first round game. The seniors are out the following week when they travel to Glenties on Sunday, 27th August.

The minor ladies took on Saint Naul's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh last Monday and came away with a good win. The early stages were keenly fought with Mountcharles getting the first point of the game. Cadhla Dolan hit an answering point before Ciara Larkin came raiding through in the fifth minute for the game's first goal. Faye Gillespie added a second in the tenth minute before a Cadhla Dolan free and a lovely effort from Niamh Duffy made it 2-3 to -1. Saint Naul's came back with a point, but scores from Emily McNamee and Cadhla Dolan returned that with interest. The visitors then hit a purple patch before half-time with a 1-1 salvo taking them back to within five points of the leaders, but the final say of the half went to Niamh Duffy, with another great shot from an acute angle. The Mountcharles girls needed a good start to the second half, but instead Faye Gillespie got on the end of a good move for her second goal of the day just seconds after the restart. Gillespie hit her hattrick in the 39th minute to make it 4-7 to 1-4. A minute later Rachel Gillespie then got in on the scoring act with a good point. Saint Naul's kept battling and reeled off 1-5 in the final quarter with only a Ciara Larkin point in answer. Aodh Ruadh had done enough though and finished 4-9 to 1-9 winners. Tara Gallagher had a strong game between the pots, while Megan Murphy, Katie McGowan and Jessie McGowan were very effective in a miserly defence. Lauren Foy had a powerful hour in the middle of the park and Saint Naul's just had no answer to her. Cadhla Gillespie made a number of useful contributions in the attack, while cousin Faye was dangerous every time she got the ball and Niamh Duffy hit two of the scores of the match. Check out aodhruadh.org for a gallery of pictures from the game. The minors are away to Red Hugh's this Tuesday, 15th August, at 7pm.

Hurling
The minors delighted the large crowd in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday afternoon by winning the Táin Óg competition. The visitors, Saint Enda's from Omagh found the back of the net in the first few minutes to take an early lead. They continued to dominate throughout the first half and although Aodh Ruadh equalised at one stage, they were down by nine points early into the second half. The lads heads never let their spirits drop and they dug deep and hit back hard to find the back of the net twice. In what was a fantastic comeback they eventually turned the tables and won the match by three points on a scoreline of 3-16 to 4-10 much to the delight of the large number of supporters present for the decider. Huge congratulations to coaches Daithi and Danny Breen, and Denis Daly and the whole panel on this, their second title win of the season. With the County Championship Final still to play for, it's shaping up to be quite the season for this band of brothers. Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery from the victory live now. We also have a gallery live from the side's mid-week Táin Óg win against Sligo outfit Coolera Strandhill on aodhruadh.org.

The under 15s had two League matches last week and bagged the win in both of them. On Tuesday night they took on Buncrana at home in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh and ran out winners on an impressive scoreline of 3-11 to 0-1. We have a gallery of images live on aodhruadh.org from this game. Thursday evening then saw the squad make the journey to O'Donnell Park to take on the might of Saint Eunan's on their home turf. Once again, after a great team display the lads were victorious on the night with an even more impressive scoreline of 8-19 to 2-7. This team is going from strength to strength and taking no prisoners along the way! Next week is the long trip to Inishowen and a head-to-head with Carndonagh on Thursday evening at 7pm.

Our under 11s made the journey to Saint Eunan's on Thursday evening, and gave a battling display. There were some very strong performances right across the team. The lads are due to play Buncrana this week, but we are hoping to have that game rescheduled to a Sunday, with all details to be confirmed in the team WhatsApp. Best of Luck to Shay McNulty, Eanna Redden, Freddie Knott and Daire Reynolds who will represent the club on the annual county hurling trip to Croke Park.

Our under 9s and under 7s enjoyed a great morning of hurling on Sunday when they welcomed Saint Molaise, Setanta, Four Masters and MacCumhaill's to Ballyshannon for a blitz. Both squads got plenty of game time, with the under 9s playing four games and the under 7s entering two teams, and playing five games each, in particular the Aodh Ruadh Whites against the Aodh Ruadh Greens. Thanks to Antoin Duffy, and Ethan Kerrigan for refereeing the under 9 games, and thanks to Harvey Power, Ethan Kerrigan, Shaun McGarrigle, Ellen McGarrigle and Dillon Owen for the under 7s. The referees did an excellent job and were complimented by a number of the other clubs parents and coaches for doing the manner in which the handled the games! We have a gallery from this most enjoyable morning of hurling live now on aodhruadh.org. Next up is an all-county blitz for the under 9s. Training continues for both teams on Sunday at 11.45am.

Football
It wasn't pretty, but Aodh Ruadh did the business in Tir Chonaill Park, coming away with the points after a pedestrian contest where the opposition failed to score from play. The first 30 minutes of football yielded just four points in total. The first arrived nine minutes in when Cian Rooney pounced on a loose ball and swept over a crisp shot. Four Masters only point of the half arrived midway through from a free. The last two points fell to Shane McGrath, the first a fine individual effort which went over with the aid of the upright, the second was the product of good link up play with Philip Patton. Four Masters had the breeze in the second half and made early use of it to earn and convert two frees. That, however, was to be as good as it got for the Donegal town men. In the 44th minute Diarmaid McInerney sent over the free after Matt Gillespie was dragged down to open a bit of daylight between the sides again. Aodh Ruadh were starting to find some fluency and Shane McGrath split the posts again after some good build-up play. With three points between the sides and time running out Four Masters started to chase a goal, and Peter Boyle had to be alert to keep out a good effort two minutes from time. Aodh Ruadh then went up the pitch and won a free which Diarmaid McInerney converted for the insurance point as it finished Aodh Ruadh 0-7 Four Master 0-3. Safe to say this isn't a game which will linger long in the memory, but at this stage of the championship it's just a case of putting points on the board. Peter Boyle made an important save late on and the defence was generally very sound, although they will be disappointed that the ref brought up all three of Four Masters converted frees. Conor Patton did really well on his return, while further up the pitch Shane McGrath had a man of the match performance, and was pushed all the way by brother Eamonn for those particular laurels. Cian Dolan, Mark McGlynn and Philip Patton all featured strongly in Aodh Ruadh's best attacking passages of play. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Kyle Murray, Conor Patton, Niall Murray; Michael McKenna, Eamonn McGrath, Eddie Lynch; Shane McGrath (0-3), Cian Dolan; Mark McGlynn, Diarmaid McInerney (0-3f), Philip Patton; Colm Kelly, Cian Rooney (0-1), Matt Gillespie. Subs: Darren Drummond for Matt Gillespie 45 minutes; Callum O'Halloran for Cian Rooney. Head along to aodhruadh.org for a gallery of pictures from the game, including plenty of crowd shots.

Aodh Ruadh came away with a share of the spoils in the reserve game, but will be pondering what might have been after Four Masters got the benefit of the doubt for a second half point. Ballyshannon had the wind behind them in the first half, and initially made good use of it to take an early two point lead, Damian Weber and Sticky Ward finding the range. A Four Masters free four minutes in brought them back to within a point, but a Sticky Ward free after ten minutes restored the two point cushion. Scores were proving hard come by and it took good work from Harry Howarth to set up Damian Weber for Aodh Ruadh's next score in the 23rd minute. Four Masters did manage to hit answering points though, so they went in trailing by the minimum 0-4 to 0-3 at the interval. Given the strength of the breeze it looked like they were in a good position to push on. The second half saw the scores slow to come once again, with Sticky Ward hitting the first of the half five minutes in. Donegal town came straight back with an answering score and then came what was possibly the pivotal moment of the game. Four Masters fired in what looked like a ragged wide effort, but after consulting with the umpire, the referee awarded the point to Four Masters. That levelled the game and put the wind proverbially and literally in the hosts' sails. Sticky Ward did edge the Ernesiders back in front with a superb point, but Donegal town levelled quickly. They took the lead in the 46th minute and stretched it with a free in the 52nd minute. Aodh Ruadh started to dominate possession now and after a good move Sticky Ward was through on goal, but his shot flashed agonisingly over the bar. Ward then levelled the game at eight points apiece from a very difficult placed ball with two minutes left, but again Four Masters nudged in front with a point from play. It looked like Aodh Ruadh might have shot their bolt, but James Gallagher was really brave to win a free in front of the posts which Ward slotted with the last kick of the game to leave it honours even, Aodh Ruadh 0-9 Four Masters 0-9. Karl O'Brien was excellent for the Ballyshannon men, pulling off a phenomenal double save late on to keep his side in the game. Oisin Kerr, Darragh Flood Dolan and Daniel Warnock got through a sight of work, while in the middle of the field Colm McGloin had an outstanding first half before been stood down for senior duties. Caelan Drummond and Odhran McGarrigle also contributed well around the centre. Sticky Ward was the focal point of the attack and worked well with Damian Weber and Harry Howarth. Half time sub James Gallagher also had a very strong outing. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O'Brien; Luke Carr, Michael Ward, Oisin Kerr; Darragh Flood Dolan, Chris Goan, Daniel Warnock; Odhran McGarrigle, Colm McGloin; JJ Cassidy, Caelan Drummond, Damian Weber (0-2); Cathal Kelly, Harry Howarth, Michael 'Sticky' Ward (0-7, 2f). Subs: James Gallagher for Colm McGloin HT; Ciaran Slevin for JJ Cassidy 52 minutes. Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of shots from the game.

Our seniors and reserves are out in championship again on this Saturday in Ballyshannon against Gaoth Dobhair, a reprise of last year's championship quarter-final. The reserve game throws in at 3.30pm with the senior clash going off at 5pm. Admission for this Saturday's championship double header is €10 for adults, €5 for students and OAPs, and free for under 16s.

The minors made the trip to Páirc na nGael on Monday evening to take on Naomh Columba. The conditions were very poor with strong wind and heavy rain not conducive to good football. Aodh Ruadh played with the benefit of the wind in the first half, such as it was. The Ballyshannon lads took a while to shake off the effects of the trip to Glencolumcille, but managed to hit their stride in the second quarter and started to reel off points. James Monaghan hit two super scores with Eoin Cassidy, Garvey Meade and Oran Gillespie also raising white flags. Just before the half-time whistle the Ernesiders strung together a lovely move which saw Barry Campbell dancing around the tackles to find Dara McGloin who switched across the face of goal for MJ Ward to palm to the net. That score left Aodh Ruadh leading by 1-5 to 0-4 at half-time. Ballyshannon now faced into the wind for the second half, and made light of the conditions to play some really good football. Despite that though, they could only muster points from Eoin Cassidy and Garvey Meade while Glen used their local knowledge to good effect as they picked off their scores. In the end the hosts prevailed on a final scoreline of Naomh Columba 1-11 Aodh Ruadh 1-7. Corey Sheridan was outstanding in goals once again, while in the defence James Monaghan was phenomenal with James Ward and Ted O'Donnell offering good support and Joe Gibbions excelling in his sweeping role. In the attack MJ Ward, Barry Campbell and Oran Gillespie all had lively outings. The minors will have a break next week as they wait to see if they are graded in the Cup or Shield competitions, with their next fixtures slated for Monday, 4th September.

Our under 15s travelled to Buncrana on Friday last, for a shield semi-final clash against the host team. Ballyshannon were missing several regular starters, however the new faces as well as the established players on the team thrived in the opening minutes, and came out of the blocks quicker than their opponents. The opening score was a thing of beauty, a flowing, passing move from our own 45, finished to the top corner of the Buncrana net. That score and opening passage set the tone, and the Aodh Ruadh lads continued the half dominating their 50/50 battles, and working harder than their opponents. The visitors went in at half-time 2-3 to 0-4 up. The second half continued in similar fashion, with the Ernesiders always keeping that five or six point margin ahead. The final score was 2-7 to 0-5, after a very workmanlike effort from each and every player. The squad will train at the normal times this week. Details of the shield final against Termon will be confirmed through the team WhatsApp group.

On Saturday we hosted the under 13 Willie Roger’s memorial tournament. It was fantastic day of football with 16 teams from nine clubs taking part. The football was played in fantastic spirit with some great young talent on show. Saint John's of Sligo won the Willie Rogers trophy, defeating Aodh Ruadh 1 on a scoreline of 3-9 to 3-5 in what was an extremely entertaining game with both teams competing fiercely for the top prize. This is the second year in row that Saint John's won out the day so congratulations to the Yeats county boys. The Aodh Ruadh 2 and 3 teams brought home silverware with John McHugh and Alfie McGowan leading those teams to their respective cups. On the day, Tourlestrane (2), Calry Saint Joseph's (1), Saint John's (2), Enniskillen Gaels (2), Naomh Bríd (2), Ardara (2), Bundoran (1), Saint Naul's (1) and Aodh Ruadh (3) made up the 16 teams. A massive thank you to all the clubs who participated and really added to the day. Also, a massive thank you to everyone that helped organise the tournament or contributed in any way, these days don’t happen by accident and your contribution is much appreciated. It was brilliant to see all the Rogers family there and we know that Renee and the rest of the Rogers family look forward to this tournament each year. We have a fantastic gallery of pictures live now on aodhruadh.org.

On Wednesday evening the under 13 Division 1 team made the long journey to Buncrana to play in the all-county league but unfortunately came up short on the evening losing 0-14 to 0-9 to the hosts. The lads played to the very last whistle and had opportunities to get more scores on the board in what was a bruising encounter. Training continues Monday and Friday this week as our attention now turns to championship in two weekends time.

Meanwhile, pride of place this week goes to our 2012 under 11s who lined out in Croke Park on Wednesday afternoon. 26 boys played across four games on what was a memorable occasion for all involved. Special thanks to all the coaches who made the day possible. We have some lovely pictures from the day up on the Aodh Ruadh CLG Facebook page. Under 11 training continues as normal on Monday and Wednesday evening from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

Ladies
The reserve ladies had a sobering opening to their championship campaign against one of the hot competition favourites on their home turf. Aodh Ruadh travelled to Towney on Sunday morning and, although the rain largely stayed away, there was a gale driving in off the sea which Kilcar had behind them for the first half. The hosts got the ideal start with an early goal and added two further points over the next couple of minutes. The Shamettes steadied the defence after that, but with the wind behind them Kilcar were able to maintain sustained pressure on the Ballyshannon defence. The visitors' cause wasn't helped when they were reduced to 14 midway through the half after the referee saw only one side of a tangle between opposing players. Had Aodh Ruadh kept the full complement of 15 players, the half-time deficit of 2-5 to 0-0 was far from insurmountable, but the numerical advantage was a big help to Kilcar in the second half. The hosts picked up where they left off in the new half and had 2-11 chalked up before Aodh Ruadh landed their first score of the game. That came in the 51st minute courtesy of under 16 star Katie McGowan after a good team move. It was promptly followed by a goal, with Mary Flora Scott tapping home after great work from Anna-Lisa Rabbitte. Scott then won a free which Ciara Larkin converted. By that stage the verdict was decided though, and the final whistle sounded on a 2-11 to 0-2 win for Kilcar. It was a very tough day for the reserves, but they showed a lot of grit in tough circumstances. Anna-Lisa Rabbitte had one of her best games in an Aodh Ruadh jersey, while Lauren Foy also gave her absolute all for the cause. Fiona McGonigle did a great man-marking job, while Shauna Dolan did well in an over-worked defence. Up front Terri Gallagher and Donna Martin grafted hard, but the subs deserve a special mention with Lauren Moore, Mary Flora Scott and Katie McGowan all contributing well on their introduction. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Brídín Maguire; Shauna Dolan, Shelly Loughlin, Grainne Maguire; Roisin McGloin, Fiona McGonigle, Hannah Doherty; Lauren Foy, Annalisa Rabbitte; Kate Cunningham, Ciara Larkin (0-1f), Amanda Mahon; Niamh Hoey, Terri Gallagher, Donna Martin. Subs used: Katie McGowan (0-1), Lauren Moore, Mary Flora Scott (1-0), Meabh McCloskey, Hannah McGuinness, Ciarde Sheerin, Megan Murphy, Aoife Bromley, Emily McNamee. Congratulations to Katie McGowan, Megan Murphy and Emily McNamee on making their senior championship debuts.

This Sunday both our senior and reserve sides will be out in championship action. The seniors will be travelling to take on Naomh Conaill in their opening tie of the competition, which will be under lights at 8pm in Glenties. Meanwhile the juniors will be hosting Termon 2 in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 10.30am. Please note adult admission for the Juniors' game in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh will be €5.

The minor ladies had to work for the result in their most recent league outing, a trip to Killygordon last Tuesday. The visitors had a slow start with Red Hugh's raiding for three goals in quick succession. Aodh Ruadh then started to settle and come back into the game and got a few scores on the board through Cadhla Dolan and Ciara Larkin. As ever Lauren Foy was a giving her all and steadied things in the middle of the pitch. Katie McGowan cleared up a lot of ball around the back line while Emily McNamee and Niamh McGloin helped give their side attacking momentum with their forward runs. The Shamettes were down by seven points at half-time, but really knuckled down in the second half and pushed on to win by 12 points. The player of the match award had to go to Andrea Moore for her work-rate and man marking one of Red Hugh’s best players. Up front Faye Gillespie and Cadhla Dolan along with Rachel Gillespie who came off the bench worked really well together. Aodhbha O'Donnell and Megan Murphy did a great job in the defence, giving their side a solid platform to work from after a tricky start. Next up for the minors is a home match against Kilcar in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Tuesday at 7pm.

The under 14s Division 1 Shield final against Robert Emmet's fell foul of Storm Betty on Saturday morning. We await details for the refixed decider.

Hurling
It was a quiet week for our minors last week. Preparations and training are still ongoing for their third appearance in a final this season; the County Championship final. Date and other fixture details are still to be confirmed.

The under 15s were on the road to Carndonagh last Thursday. The long trip didn't prove too much for our lads as they ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-10 and maintained their 100 percent record so far this year in the County League. Next up is a home match against Setanta this Thursday at 7pm.

The under 11s face up to Dungloe this Thursday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh with throw in at 7pm. The players are also looking forward to the Aodh Ó Dálaigh Shield blitz which is set to take place on Sunday 3rd September in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. We will have eight teams taking part including ourselves. The action is set to throw-in at 11am and we are looking forward to a great day of hurling action.

Well done to our under 11 players Shay McNulty, Eanna Redden, Freddie Knott and Daire Reynolds who were part of the Donegal Hurling group that took part in the annual Croke Park Activity day last Thursday. They got to play on the hallowed turf and even go up the steps of the Hogan Stand and lift the Liam MacCarthy Cup. All-in-all, the boys had a fantastic day and enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to 2024 already. Check out the Aodh Ruadh CLG Facebook page for some great pictures from the visit.

The under 9s travelled to Convoy for the all-county blitz on Friday evening. Conditions could be best described as damp, but the boys enjoyed a great evening of hurling. Aodh Ruadh fielded two teams, and both were very competitive throughout. Training continues for the squad on Sunday mornings at 11.45am in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Our under 7s are coming toward the end of their season. This week they will take part in the all-county blitz in Convoy on Friday at 7pm. Training continues on Sunday mornings at 11.45am.

With the return of school not far off we are hoping to see Camogie reintroduced into PE activities in the local schools in the new year.

Dogs on club grounds
There has been a rising incidence of dog fouling in the club grounds, particularly on the playing surface at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. This has resulted in some very unpleasant incidents involving young players. This is absolutely unacceptable. At the last monthly club executive meeting a policy of zero tolerance on dogs in club grounds was passed. This is a restatement of the existing policy. However, in view of the escalating dog fouling problem, strict enforcement must now take place. We ask all patrons to respect this policy and assist in spreading awareness of the regulations.

Football
Aodh Ruadh recorded a famous victory in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Gaoth Dobhair 2-8 to 0-9. After last year's quarter-final defeat to this side the character of the Ballyshannon men was questioned. This result will send out a rather different message. The breeze was to play a big part in both the senior and reserve games, and, unusually, was blowing southerly giving the team playing up the incline a significant advantage. The visitors played with the assistance of the elements in the first half and used it to good effect initially, sending over their opening score just two minutes in. They added a second five minutes later before Aodh Ruadh opened their account courtesy of a peach of a shot from Conor Patton off the outside of the boot. Gaoth Dobhair answered that with a free, but the lively Michael McKenna fed Shane McGrath to fist over the Ernesiders response. Shortly after Eoghan Kelly was hacked down after a surging run into an undermanned Gaoth Dobhair defence to allow Philip Patton to level the game from the placed ball with 17 minutes played. That was to be Aodh Ruadh's last scoring contribution to the first half, with Gaoth Dobhair tagging on three points without reply to make it 0-3 to 0-6 as the teams retreated to the dressing rooms for half-time. Aodh Ruadh looked a different side on the resumption, retaining the ball much better and moving with much more intent. Six minutes in they made their play. They constructed a strong thrusting move which released Eamonn McGrath into an exposed Gaoth Dobhair defence and he slammed to the back of the net. Gaoth Dobhair won possession from the kick out, but their player was swarmed by Aodh Ruadh players starving for ball. They forced a turn over which was sent directly into the danger area and Darren Drummond had time to work himself some space and blast to the net. Ballyshannon were now in a three point lead and the dynamic of the game had changed radically. A sumptuous point from Michael McKenna stretched the lead and underlined the confidence Aodh Ruadh were now playing with. Cian Rooney then converted a tricky free with 41 minutes played to make it 2-5 to 0-7. Gaoth Dobhair's first score of the half came with the match already into the final quarter, but Shane McGrath kept the pressure up with a wonderful booming effort. The Magheragallon men did come back with two points, but the Ernesiders came with a strong finish. First Michael McKenna was fouled for Philip Patton to pop over and then, with pretty much the last kick of the game, Cian Rooney pivoted on the spot before splitting the posts with a lovely point. James Connor sounded his whistle immediately to confirm a five point win for John McNulty's men. It was a very strong display by the Ballyshannon men. Peter Boyle's kick outs were exceptional and the whole defensive unit put in a powerful performance right across the 60 minutes. Conor Patton, Michael McKenna and Eamonn McGrath all contributed well when Aodh Ruadh were on the offensive too. Cian Dolan was a steadying influence in the central third, while Shane McGrath built on his match-winning display last day out, with another compelling performance here. Up front Darren Drummond, Cian Rooney and Philip Patton all made good use of the ball and didn't neglect their defensive duties either. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows. Peter Boyle; Kyle Murray, Conor Patton (0-1), Colm Kelly; Michael McKenna (0-1), Eamonn McGrath (1-0), Niall Murray; Cian Dolan, Shane McGrath (0-2); Eoghan Kelly, Cian Rooney (0-2, 1f), Philip Patton 0-2f); Calum O'Halloran, Darren Drummond (1-0), Eddie Lynch. Subs: David Dolan for Callum O'Halloran HT; Mark McGlynn for Eoghan Kelly 50 minutes; Matt Gillespie for Niall Murray 57 minutes. We have a gallery of pictures from the game live on aodhruadh.org now.

The Reserves took on Gaoth Dobhair in the curtain raiser and, a bit like the senior game, paid the price for not making the most of the elements in the first half. Jack Gallagher proved to be the marquee Erneside player on show in this contest, and he opened the scoring 36 seconds in. Gaoth Dobhair levelled with a free, but a great score from play followed by a well struck dead ball, both from Jack Gallagher, handed the impetus back to Aodh Ruadh. The visitors notched a free ten minutes in, but Ballyshannon hit back in style when a raking move on the opposition goal finished with Colm McGloin teeing up Gary Carty to palm home. That score came in the 17th minute, and it was to prove Aodh Ruadh's last of the half. Meanwhile Gaoth Dobhair chipped away at the scores and hit the equaliser two minutes into first half added time to leave it 1-3 to 0-6 at the turn-around. Gaoth Dobhair took the lead just 12 seconds into the new half, but Jack Gallagher hit a sensational point three minutes later to square things up again. The Gaeltacht men profited from slack work in the Aodh Ruadh attack to hit a turn-over point, but again Jack Gallagher fired over another wonder score to keep his side in it. However, in the next five minute spell the game was carried away from the hosts. First Gaoth Dobhair edged into the lead again, then they punished another turn-over with a point and then hit the net, although Aodh Ruadh had a valid shout that it should have been a free out. A Jack Gallagher free kept four points between the sides, but with Gaoth Dobhair hitting an answering dead ball with just seven minutes left, the clock was against Aodh Ruadh. Jack Gallagher landed another free with a minute remaining, but the last say went to Gaoth Dobhair, who once again punished some poor play from the host to find the back of the net. It finished Aodh Ruadh 1-7 Gaoth Dobhair 2-11. The Magheragallon men were very strong, but Aodh Ruadh will know they should have been closer at the end. Colm McGloin was in fine form in the middle of the pitch and never took the foot off the gas all day. Gary Carty did a lot of work too and was effective in breaking the Gaoth Dobhair line. Star of the show though was Jack Gallagher who Gaoth Dobhair really struggled to contain throughout and was full value for his seven point return. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers was as follows: Aaron Cullen; Johnny Gallagher, Michael Ward, Luke Carr; Tiernan Flood Dolan, Dan Warnock, Aidan Sweeny; Colm McGloin, Odhran McGarrigle; Darragh Flood Dolan, Damian Weber, Gary Carty (1-0); Jack Gallagher (0-7, 3f), Michael Sticky Ward, David McGurrin. Subs: Cathal Kelly for Michael 'Sticky' Ward HT, Aonghus Sweeny for Odhran McGarrigle 39 minutes; Harry Howarth for Tiernan Flood Dolan 56 minutes. We have a gallery of pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org now.

The third round draw of the championship saw Aodh Ruadh paired with Killybegs. Those games will take place in Eamonn Byrne this Saturday, with the reserve curtain raiser at 4.30pm followed by the senior clash at 6pm.

The minors have a break this week as they wait to see if they are graded in the Cup or Shield competitions, with their next outing slated for Monday, 4th September.

Our under 15 boys travelled to MacCumhaill Park last Friday night to face Termon in the Division 2 Cup shield final. These teams met in the group stages of the championship, with Termon running out easy winners, so our lads knew the enormity of the task that lay ahead. Conditions were wet, which led to handling errors and mistakes by both teams in the early stages. There were no scores in the opening ten minutes, with Termon sending several scoring chances wide, and Aodh Ruadh having difficulty getting over the half way line. Termon then sent over two quick fire points, and looked in full control. However a sweeping move up the pitch and some absolutely brilliant, quick one-twos and a shot to the top corner of the net by full forward MJ Ward put Aodh Ruadh a point up. It was as good a goal as you would see anywhere. Termon continued to dominate the possession stakes, and fired over two more points, before another Aodh Ruadh goal rocked Termon, a quick turn on the edge of the small square and a smart finish to the net, this time by pacy corner forward Callum Dorrian. Termon finished the half with another point, leaving Aodh Ruadh fortunate to be going in at half time a point to the good, 2-0 to 0-5. The second half was a different story, with Aodh Ruadh finally getting to grips with their physically stronger opponents. The Ernesiders defended bravely, and as a team, frustrated Termon time after time with some great blocking. Our forwards were also starting to dominate proceedings, and with Termon losing their discipline, Ballyshannon won many frees in the scoring zone. Aodh Ruadh would outscore Termon seven points to two in that second half, with a great display of fitness and desire helping to win the match on a score line of 2-7 to 0-7. Captains Corey Sheridan and Garreth Brennan received the shield from county board representative David McLoone, to round off a very successful year for this group.

Under 13 training continues on Mondays from 7pm to 8pm and Fridays from 6pm to 7.15pm. The team will be travelling to Ballybofey on Wednesday for a challenge game against MacCumhaill's with the action throwing-in at 6.30pm.

Under 11 training continues as normal on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5.45pm to 6.45pm Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. On Saturday at 12.15pm, there will be a home game against Glencolmcille in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. There is also the possibility of a game against Naomh Conaill at 1.30pm and if confirmed, further details and team lists will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

Ladies
Aodh Ruadh matched Naomh Conaill score for score in Sunday evening's senior championship opener in Glenties, but it was goals which made the difference, and, unfortunately for Ballyshannon, they went the way of the hosts. It was first blood to the Shamettes just a minute in with Eimear McMahon belting over a monster free from almost 40 metres. Naomh Conaill responded two minutes later to level though and establish the template for the game. Aodh Ruadh edged in front again in the fourth minute with a good move finished by Eimear McMahon and shortly after Cáit Gillespie stretched the lead with a good effort from play. With the game moving into the second quarter Naomh Conaill won a penalty, which Brídín Maguire did well to get down to, but it just squeezed in. Ballyshannon levelled the game up again with eight minutes left in the half, Lauren Foy taking some heavy treatment before finally winning her free which Eimear McMahon converted. Two minutes later Foy split the posts for her first senior championship point, but Glenties quickly square matters up. Eimear McMahon then nosed the Ernesiders in front again only for Naomh Conaill to restore parity once, but Cáit Gillespie registered again on the stroke of half time to give the visitors a slim interval advantage. The scoring rate slowed in the second half, but it was Glenties who were to have the better of it with two points in the 35th minute taking them into the lead. Eimear McMahon finished a great Aodh Ruadh move ten minutes later to make it all square again, but three minutes later Naomh Conaill rattled in 1-1 in less than a minute to effectively decide the game. Aodh Ruadh worked hard to get back into the contest and Eimear McMahon did hit a free with a minute left to leave a goal in it, but Naomh Conaill shut up shop and the Ernesiders couldn't manufacture a way through. A tough defeat for Aodh Ruadh after playing so well for long stretches of this game. Small errors cost dearly though, which is as should be expected at senior championship level. For a second game in succession Annalisa Rabbitte put in a storming performance, with Lauren Foy another to really rise the physicality of the contest. Anna Rafferty was phenomenal in the defence and did a great job organising and motivating those around her. Kate Cunningham and Caitlin McGarrigle were neat and controlled in possession, while Caoimhe Keon made some useful runs despite being just off the plane. Up front Eimear McMahon did well with Terri Gallagher giving great energy and Cáit Gillespie battling hard. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Brídín Maguire; Saoirse McDevitt, Anna Rafferty, Hannah Doherty; Kate Cunningham, Caitlin McGarrigle, Lauren Foy (0-1); Aoibhinn McGarrigle, Orla Keon; Annalisa Rabbitte, Gillian Dufficy, Cáit Gillespie (0-2); Eimear McMahon (0-6, 4f), Terri Gallagher, Caoimhe Keon. Sub Ciara Larkin for Terri Gallagher 59 minutes.

The Junior ladies bounced back from a tough defeat to Kilcar last week with a resounding win over Termon 2 in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday morning. Termon were game, but only managed one point over the course of the game, with the Shamettes dominating in every sector. Still it took seven minutes for the hosts to register on the score board with Donna Martin winning and converting a free before then setting up Mary Flora Scott to pick out a lovely goal. Scott then added two further points from play as Aodh Ruadh started to take control of matters. At the end of the quarter Roisin McGloin won a penalty which Donna Martin tucked home on the rebound and a couple of minutes later Amanda Mahon raised a fourth white flag for the Ernesiders. Termon then notched their first point, but Katie McGowan more than cancelled that out with a shot which looped into the net. Mary Flora Scott then followed that with a quick 1-1 and that left Aodh Ruadh leading by 4-5 to 0-1 at the interval. The second half saw the homesters shooting into the 'scoring' goals and they were quickly making that advantage count with Scott landing her hat-trick goal seconds after the throw-in. She then added two quick-fire points before turning provider for Amanda Mahon who showed great presence of mind to steer to the net. Donna Martin then added to her tally before sub Emily McNamee teed up Fiona McGonigle for a collector's item point from the tenacious defender. Mary Flora Scott was then on target again with sub Hannah McGuinness firing over to become her side's sixth scorer. Another sub, Ciarde Sheerin, then set up Niamh Hoey to drill home goal number seven. Megan Murphy then released Hoey to launch over the last score of the game as it finished Aodh Ruadh 7-13 Termon 0-1. It was a complete team performance from the Shamettes with Mary Flora Scott in flying form. Donna Martin and Niamh Hoey supplied great movement in the forward line and took some lovely scores. In midfield Dáirín Sweeny and Fiona McGonigle did brilliantly with some great tackling and link up play. Further back Aodh Ruadh gave their opposition precious few opportunities, with Roisin McGloin, Shauna Dolan and Shelly Loughlin leading the effort. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Roisin Maguire; Shauna Dolan, Megan McGee, Megan Murphy; Roisin McGloin, Shelley Laughlin, Meabh McCloskey; Fiona McGonigle (0-1), Dairin Sweeny; Katie McGowan (1-0), Mary Flora Scott (3-6), Amanda Mahon (1-1); Aoife Bromley, Donna Martin (1-2, 1f), Niamh Hoey (1-0). Subs: Emily McNamee for Shelly Loughlin 34 minutes; Hannah McGuinness (0-1) for Aoife Bromley 40 minutes; Ciarde Sheerin for Roisin McGloin 43 minutes. Check out aodhruadh.org for a gallery of shots from the game.

The senior ladies are away again next week with a trip to Mountcharles to take on Saint Naul's at 10.30am. Meanwhile, the junior ladies have a break next weekend ahead of their final group game, an away fixtures against MacCumhaill's on Sunday, 10th September at 10.30am.

The minors ladies recorded a good win last Tuesday after an entertaining encounter with Kilcar in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The visitors made the early running with two points, and the Shamettes had to wait until the ninth minute for Faye Gillespie to kick their first point. Two minutes later Aodh Ruadh were propelled into the lead after a surging run from Lauren Foy ended with the midfielder laying off for Emily McNamee to hit the net. Kilcar had the game level as the game moved into the second quarter with a free followed by a point from play. With ten minutes remaining in the half though Lauren Foy came rampaging through again and drilled home a fantastic individual goal. A minute later Faye Gillespie stretched the lead with a point, only for Kilcar to respond with a quickfire 1-1 to square the game up at 2-2 to 1-5. The last say of the half went to Hannah McGuinness though, as she smartly clipped over a point to give her side a narrow interval advantage. The second half proved a great spectacle for the crowd in Munday's, with Aodh Ruadh getting off to a whirlwind start. Straight from the throw-in Rachel Gillespie set up cousin Faye to hit the net. Then Hannah McGuinness turned provided for Rachel Gillespie to pop over a point. Rachel then set up Faye again for another point to put two goals between the sides. Kilcar came back with a point, but Rachel Gillespie answered with her second point of the game. Ciara Larkin then fired over from play with the Ernesiders putting together some lovely football. The sides went blow for blow then pretty much to the full time whistle. Kilcar pointed a free, but Ciara Larkin cancelled that out with a dead ball of her own before Aoife Travers hit a good score from play. As the game moved into the last ten minutes Kilcar sent over a point, but again Ciara Larkin raised a white flag in response. The visitor finished with a flourish, hitting 1-1, but Ballyshannon had done enough to secure a deserved victory. Andrea Moore put in a player of the match display, snuffing out the Kilcar danger-woman and getting up the pitch to contribute well in the attack too. Lauren Foy has being playing outstanding football of late and this was no exception, with her influential first half a big factor in the win. In the attack Faye Gillespie ran riot with good support from cousin Rachel in the second half. Ciara Larkin had a fantastic game, taking some good scores, while Emily McNamee and Hannah McGuinness also caused the opposition defence plenty of bother. Further back Katie McGowan read the game like a book with the ever-dependable Megan Murphy marshalling the rearguard impeccably. Next up for the minors is the trip to Glencolumcille this Tuesday to take on Naomh Columba.

Under 14s are still awaiting details for their refixed Division 1 Shield decider, but it is likely to take place this Thursday. Keep an eye on the club's social media output for updates.

Hurling
The build up and preparations for our minors' county championship final continues unabated this week. The big match has been scheduled for a 12 noon throw-in at The Cross, Killygordon. These lads have had a fantastic season to date with two titles already under their belts. Hopefully we'll have a large and noisy group of travelling supporter to get behind the boys.

The under 15s had their home match against Setanta postponed last week due to a congested fixture schedule. The game has yet to be re-scheduled. They also have a further break this week as they have a bye in the league. Next up for the lads is an away game against MacCumhaill's on Thursday, 7th September.

Huge congratulations go out this week to the 11 under 15 Aodh Ruadh players who were part of the Donegal team who ran out over-all winners in the Peter O'Keefe memorial tournament. The tournament took place in the Sligo Centre of Excellence in Scarden in some brutal weather conditions on Saturday. The Donegal lads gave two great performances, firstly against Mayo in the semi-final and then against Sligo in the final and it was fitting to see an Aodh Ruadh player, Garreth Brennan, as captain of the team lift the Peter O'Keefe cup and bring it back to Donegal for the first time in a number of years. The boys received a hero's welcome back in Ballyshannon and were invited to be guests of honour at half-time in the senior football match in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh where their coaches, Daithi Roberts and Paul Sheridan were interviewed by Michael Daly. Daithi spoke about how the size of the representation from Aodh Ruadh on the county team was testament to the strength and skills of hurling in Aodh Ruadh and he congratulated all involved in the club. He also paid tribute to the fact that the captain, Garreth Brennan and the winner of the Man of the Tournament award, Corey Sheridan, both hailed from Aodh Ruadh as well. The 11 Ballyshannon players on the panel on the day were: Garreth Brennan, Corey Sheridan, Daithi Sheerin, Joseph Gibbions, Sean Maguire, Finn Doogan, Shay Winters, Antoin Duffy, Tómas Keown, Antóin O'Loughlin and Jayden McGrath Clyne. We have a gallery of shots from the presentation up on aodhruadh.org now. Despite the sore bones, all these lads appeared out on Sunday morning to the junior training session with their cup in tow and had a great fun training session with the under 11s. Well done to all the lads.

Our under 11s are nearing the end of their season, and made the long trip to Buncrana on Sunday morning. Conditions weren't ideal for hurling, but the players enjoyed a great morning of hurling. Training continues on Tuesday at 6pm, and on Thursday we are travelling to Convoy to take on Setanta.

Also, well done young Aodh Ruadh hurler, Éanna Redden, who gave a good account of himself at the Community Games in Carlow on Saturday morning. He was delighted with his pucks and really enjoyed the experience.

This Sunday we host the Aodh Ó Dalaigh Tournament. This year it is being played as a Go Games blitz, and we look forward to hosting seven teams, Sylane from Galway, Keady from Armagh, Tooreen from Mayo, Tourlestrane from Sligo as well as our neighbours Saint Molaise Gaels, Four Masters, and Cluainín Manorhamilton. We look forward to remembering a great Gael, and a busy day of hurling action.

Our under 7s travelled to Convoy for an all county blitz on Friday evening, taking part in four games. As ever, thank you to all the parents for travelling, your efforts are always appreciated.

Our underage training on Sunday morning had some special guests as the Aodh Ruadh members of the Donegal team who won the Peter O'Keefe Cup on Saturday came up to help out at training. We started off with some questions from the youngsters about how to improve their skills and all the under 15s had the same answer, practice. We then had some fun games, followed up with a skills section all coached by the under 15s. They stayed around to referee the games at the end of training and give some pointers too. Thanks to all of these young stars for coming up and giving the younger players something to aspire to!

Camogie
We are hoping to keep training going up to the end of October with both underage and senior as numbers are improving each week. Training continues this week with the senior ladies training at the Coláiste Cholmcille pitch on Wednesday at 7.15pm and Saturday at 11am. Underange training will be moved to the Coláiste Cholmcille pitch this Sunday at 11.45am to facilitate a hurling tournament taking place in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

With the return of school not far off we are hoping to see Camogie reintroduced into PE activities in the local schools in the new year.

Sunrise4Stop walk
Aodh Ruadh proudly supported the North West STOP-Suicide Prevention Sunrise4Stop walk on Saturday morning at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Thanks so much to everyone who came out to support this fantastic cause, which started out just before 6am on what was a dark and wet morning. We are so privileged to have access to this service here in the Northwest and are grateful to everyone behind the scenes who has worked so tirelessly to ensure this important service continues. Thank you to Yoga with Zia who kindly offered her services of a gentle warm up before the walk and also to our amazing volunteers Lisa, Sabrina and Linda for the hot cuppas afterwards. Unfortunately there may be a time in almost all our lives when we will be affected by suicide and the impact that this has extends to families, friends, towns and whole communities. We would like to raise awareness that there is help out there through the free counselling call service on 0818 444 000.
