NRS come on board as Aodh Ruadh senior and reserve joint sponsors
The Aodh Ruadh reserves were presented with a stylish new set of jerseys at Páirc Aoidh Ruadh on Saturday by Gerald McGloin, owner of prominent local business Northern Refrigeration Services. Aodh Ruadh chairman William Doogan was delighted to welcome the new sponsor.
"It's great to have Gerald, Northern Refrigeration Services and Daikin on board. Gerald has been involved in the club for many years and has supported us in numerous ways. I hope all club members support his business in any way they can.
"Without local businesses helping to support the community, clubs wouldn't be able to function, and I hope people recognise that and support our local businesses."
Already steeped in the club, Gerald McGloin was happy to step up to the mark as joint sponsors of the Aodh Ruadh senior and reserve teams.
"I've been involved in the club since I came back home out of England in the 90s and had a lot of enjoyment on and and off the pitch with the Aodh Ruadh. I'm delighted to help the club in any way possible, and hopefully the players will enjoy their time in the jersey over the next few years as much as I did."
The club once again thanks Gerald, Northern Refrigeration Services and Daikin for their generous sponsorship and a lovely set of new jerseys.

Connect Mental Health seal unique partnership with Aodh Ruadh

Maura Gallagher of Connect Mental Health and John Meehan, Assistant National Director, Mental Health Strategy and Planning, Head of National Office for Suicide Prevention were also present at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday for the official presentation of the new jerseys, as was the Aodh Ruadh Health and Wellbeing Officer, Philip McLoone.
Speaking at the presentation Aodh Ruadh club chairman William Doogan said, "It's a great message to have on our jerseys and we're very proud to be carrying it out into the community. We should also acknowledge we have already had great access to mental health training resources thanks to Connect Mental Health and that has been a tremendous benefit to the club."
John Meehan also spoke very enthusiastically about the partnership.
"I'd like to acknowledge and thank Aodh Ruadh for taking the step to link in with Connect Mental Health. I work in suicide prevention, but suicide prevention is not just a HSE responsibility, it's everybody's and I think the fact that Aodh Ruadh now are carrying that message on their jerseys this year will really help spread that word."

Ballyshannon Bingo
A total of 26 separate winners bagged the 30 prizes on offer at last week's bingo. Well done to Sean Coughlin on winning the €500 jackpot as well as a €50 line prize. Well done also to Kathleen McGee on taking home the mini jackpot prize of €250. Our other house winners included Christina Gallagher, Aine McMahon, Sharon Connolly, Doreen McDonald, John McGreevy, Karl O'Brien, Kathleen McGee and Deirdre Kelly. The €1,200 snowball survived by the skin of its teeth in an intense closing few numbers, with Karl O'Brien unlucky to have checked just one number past the 47 number limit, so had to take consolation with the €100 house prize! To welcome in the June Bank holiday we are adding a digit to the snowball limit so this week's snowball rolls to €1,250 on 48 numbers or less - surely it can't survive much longer! Looking forward to another great night next Friday where again there will be over €3,000 in prizes on offer. Once again we will be back broadcasting to the world from Bingo HQ via Zoom at 9pm. If you haven't already played, you can find full details on the Ballyshannon Bingo Facebook page. Books are available to buy on our Klubfunder.com page right now. Remember, if you don't have access to a printer, Mary in A Novel Idea will be happy to print your book for a small fee.

Boot exchange
A big thanks to everyone who contributed to the second week of our boot exchange scheme, we had a great response. We have not gathered enough boots to start this project, and we appeal for all club members, supporters and parents in the community to make a specially big effort to drop off their spare boots this Saturday, beside the lotto stand at Centra between 10am and 5pm. The scheme will allow anybody who has boots that are too small to exchange their boots for a bigger pair at no expense. Thanks in advance to members and parents for your donations and support for this project.

Football
We wish our seniors and reserves the best of luck as they get their competitive season up and running this Sunday in Mountcharles against Saint Naul's. The seniors get the action under way at 2.30pm, followed by the reserves at 4pm.

Good luck also to our under 17s who start their season this week. They take on Four Masters on Friday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 7.30pm.

The honour of being the first Aodh Ruadh team out in competitive action in 2021 fell to the under 13s who made the trip down to Glenties to face Naomh Conaill on Monday evening. In the first game it finished 5-10 to 11-14 in favour of the homesters. MJ Ward and Corey Sheridan were among the goals with Corey, MJ, Sean O’Neill and Garreth Brennan also landing some well taken points. Fionn Hartin, Sean O’Neill, MJ Ward and Corey Sheridan all played very well and won nearly every ball that went to them.
In the second game Aodh Ruadh had a mighty battle with their Naomh Conaill counterparts to emerge two point winners, 2-9 to 2-7. Jayden McGrath Clyne scored both goals and two points. There were also points for Sean Maguire, the twinners - Oisin and Eoghan McCadden, Joey Daly and Oisin Sweeny. Sean Maguire, Oisin Sweeny and Eoghan Blake Gallagher all had stand out games for the visitors. Next up for the under 13s is the visit of Ardara to Father Tierney Park next Monday at 7.30pm.

The action continues apace up on the Rock this Saturday with the under 11s hosting Naomh Conaill in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 11.30am.

Ladies
The season begins in earnest for our adult ladies next Sunday with the club fielding two teams for the first time in our history. Both sides are away for their opening fixtures with the intermediates heading to take on Glenswilly, while the juniors take on Red Hugh's. Both games throw in at 10.30am. The whole squad has put in a lot of work ahead of this season and we wish them all the very best of luck as Aodh Ruadh ladies football embarks on an exciting new chapter.

The under 16 girls had a useful work out on Bank Holiday Monday against Grange in Father Tierney Park. Special mention must go to Mollie Travers in goals who was in terrific form. In defence Orlaith Toland, Ciara Larkin and the player of the match Orlaith O’Neill never stopped, and they emptied every ounce of energy they had. In the middle of the field Lauren excelled and tormented the Grange defence. Annie Keon covered every blade of grass on the pitch and Cádhla Dolan kept the score board ticking over for Ballyshannon girls.

The under 14 ladies have a challenge against Glencar Manorhamilton this Friday. Players to be at the pitch in Manorhamilton for 6.30pm.

15 June

Football
Aodh Ruadh put in a power-packed performance in Mountcharles on Sunday afternoon to dismiss Saint Naul's in their season curtain-raiser. The hosts were minus a number of key personnel, but the Ernesiders made no allowances for that, and were already 2-12 to 0-5 to the good by half-time, Johnny Gethins and Shane McGrath with the goals. Any hope the Mountcharles men might have had of mounting a restart rally was quickly extinguished as David Dolan hit the net moments after the second-half throw-in. Philip Patton kept the scoreboard ticking over with his masterful free-taking and delivered the coup de grace with the visitors fourth goal as Aodh Ruadh completed the rout to run out 4-18 to 1-13 victors. Congratulations must go to Kyle Murray and Cian Rooney who both made their senior debuts for the club. Two very exciting young talents who we hope to see lighting up matches for many a year to come. The Aodh Ruadh's scorers on the day were as follows: Philip Patton (1-6, 4f), Shane McGrath (1-1), David Dolan (1-4), Michael McKenna (0-2), Nathan Boyle (0-1, 45), Eamon McGrath (0-1), Oisin Rooney (0-1).

The reserves also got their season off to the perfect start, crafting out a 1-6 to 0-7 win against Saint Naul's. The Ballyshannon men faced the wind in the first half, but they battled hard and the sides turned around deadlocked on three points apiece. The sides then went blow-for-blow in the second half, swapping occasional points, but with the defences mainly in the ascendant. The game's defining score came eight minutes from time when Aodh Ruadh won a penalty which was crisply dispatched by Dylan Gallagher. That score was enough to ensure Peter Gallagher's men took the opening day points from Mountcharles after a gutsy performance in difficult conditions. Aodh Ruadh were best served by their excellent from full back line, with a special mention for Matt Gillespie who starred on his reserve debut, aided and abetted by senior players Ryan Granaghan and Callum 'Cookie' O'Halloran.

The seniors and reserves are at home this Sunday with Glenfin the guests. The seniors get the action under way at 2pm, followed by the reserves at 3.30pm.

The under 17s had a tough day at the office on Friday, with Four Masters just proving too strong in the season opener. The Donegal town lads emerged victorious on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-5. We have a gallery of pictures from the match up on aodhruadh.org, including our very first team shot of 2021. The team are on their travels this Friday, making the long trip to Moyle Park to take on Milford, throw-in at 7.30pm.

The under 13s faced Ardara in Father Tierney Park for their first home game of the league. The Ballyshannon lads put in a gritty performance, but it wasn't enough to get the better of a very strong Ardara outfit, the visiting running out 6-8 to 2-6 winners. The Aodh Ruadh goals were tucked home by Corey Sheridan and Eoghan Gallagher. Corey was also on the mark with three points, with Joe Gibbions, Sean O’Neill and MJ Ward all picking off a point apiece. The team are scheduled to face Dungloe next Monday, with Father Tierney Park again the venue.

Our under 11s played Four Masters at home on Sunday in their first round of Go Games. A beautiful day was matched with some great action on the pitch. Manus Conlon and Darragh McCready played some superb football. Markko Branley was steady as a rock in the heart of defence. Senan Ward showed he could mix it in defence as well as attack, and Oisin McGrath was as comfortable scoring as he was back in defence coving every blade of grass. John McHugh also put in a huge shift in all three games. Thanks to Barry Travers for reffing.

This week it is the turn of the under 9s to line out in Go Games action when they travel to take on Naomh Conaill. Players should be down in Glenties for 11am, with games throwing in at 11.30am. The team prepared for this outing with a challenge against Melvin Gaels last Saturday. Aodh Ruadh took 43 boys up to Kinlough on what was a lovely day, with some great displays of football to match the weather. You can see some pictures of the lads going through their training paces up on aodhruadh.org.

Hurling
It was a false start for our senior hurlers last Sunday as their clash with Buncrana was postponed. The squad will be hoping to get their season up and running this Friday when they travel to Hibernian Park on Friday to take on Burt at 7.30pm.

We have had a number of under 11 players link up with our under 13 team. Whilst it is great to have these youngsters training, ideally we want to see a few more under 11s join up and training as an under 11 team. We ask any parent who has a child in this age bracket who would like to play to please contact John Larkin on 0861076883.

Well done to our under 13 hurlers who got their season underway in the Táin Óg competition with a tough trip to Easkey Friday last – and came away with a hard-fought 3-8 to 1-4 victory. The Táin Óg is a regional competition designed to give our young hurlers an opportunity to play more games, against teams from outside the county in our neighbouring counties, and is a welcome addition to our calendar to help promote and develop underage hurling. They are out again in the South Donegal under 13 league this week facing Dungloe / Gaoth Dobhair.

Our under 15s were due to face Dungloe / Gaoth Dobhair on Thursday, but this game has been postponed. The team now face Easkey in the Táin Óg league this Wednesday in Scarden, both players and management are looking forward to their first match of the season.

Finally good luck to our under 17 players and management team who throw-in against Burt this Thursday evening for their season opener.

Our younger age groups are really enjoying their hurling, and our numbers are continuing to grow. We are still accepting new players for our under 5, under 7 and under 9 groups, so any parent who would like their child to join one of these age groups should contact John Larkin on 086-1076883. A huge thank you to all our coaches for their help in making these Sunday mornings a real festival of hurling, and a special mention to our under 17s who have been coming up to assist, and coach our younger stars.

Ladies
The senior Aodh Ruadh ladies laid down a marker on Sunday in their opening game of the season. They faced the Glenswilly ladies on their home patch on a very warm and breezy morning and proceeded to dominate from the off. Aodh Ruadh retained control right to the final whistle, running out comfortable winners. In defence the imperious Caitlin McGarrigle was steady as a rock, while Tanya McPartland got through a sight of work in the middle third. Up front Terri Gallagher was in lethal form, taking some lovely scores.

Meanwhile, a little bit of club history was created at Crossroads on Sunday with the club fielding their first ever reserve ladies side. The team took on a lively Red Hugh's outfit on a very humid, draining morning in the Finn Valley. There was also a strong breeze blowing down the pitch and it was the homesters who won the toss to have it at their backs for the first half. Aodh Ruadh played their best football in that first period with a great defensive effort from Megan McGee, Shauna Dolan, Bronagh Kelly and Sarah Daly. Further out the pitch Erin and Cara O'Loughlin offered a great platform in midfield too as the Ernesiders created a number of decent scoring chances. Up front Mary Flora Scott and captain Amanda Mahon were both very lively. It was 0-8 to 1-1 in favour of Red Hugh's at the break, and there were great hopes of pushing on in the second half. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be as the heat took its toll and a number of positional changes disrupted the team's flow. In the closing stages the visitors were hit with the loss of keeper Orlaith Gallagher to a bad knee injury which required her to be taken by ambulance to Letterkenny Hospital. Many thanks to Red Hugh's for their assistance during this incident, and indeed, best wishes to their wing forward who also had to go to hospital with a dislocated finger sustained in the first half.

The ladies are back in league action this Sunday with their first home games of the season. The intermediates face Fanad Gaels while the juniors take on Kilcar with both games throwing in at 10.30am.

The under 14 ladies had a useful challenge against Glencar Manorhamilton last Friday with Maura O'Sullivan, Cádha Dolan, Andrea Moore, Ellie Brennan, Caitlin McGrory and Aoife Travers among those catching the eye. Get well soon also to Emily Doherty and Muna Nwankwo, who are both nursing injured fingers at the moment. The team have another challenge this week, this time at home against Grange on Thursday. Players should be at the park for 7pm, with the game throwing in at 7.30pm.

Pressure on pitches
With on-the-field activity extremely intense at the moment, and great demand for both training slots and for official fixtures, managers are asked to keep in mind the impact of bookings on coaching and training schedules. Also please consult with the Park Committee in advance of making challenge game arrangements so that the most suitable dates and times can be agreed.

Football
It was another dominant display from Aodh Ruadh in the league on Sunday as they disposed of the challenge of Glenfin in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The visitors flared into life in fits and starts, but there was no disguising the dominant force here. The hosts owned the ball for sustained periods, and made very effective use of it in front of the posts. They reeled off a series of points before Shane McGrath strolled in to coolly stroke home the first goal of the game on 23 minutes. Credit to Glenfin who came right back with a goal of their own. However, Aodh Ruadh calmly continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over and by half-time they lead 1-9 to 1-2. They picked up where they left off on the resumption, putting together punchy moves and creating plenty of quality scoring chances which saw them moving ten points clear with 15 minutes remaining. Then they struck for their second goal of the game when a Michael McKenna ball in was collected beautifully by David Dolan. He was being fouled, but a good advantage was played and he was able to steer his shot to the net. Five minutes later Glenfin came back with another goal of their own, but Aodh Ruadh weren't done just yet. Four minutes from time they netted their third goal when a Darren Drummond fisted attempt at a point came back off the post into the grateful hands of Diarmaid McInerney who lashed to the back of the net. In the final analysis, Ballyshannon's combination play, incisive, purposeful running, uncompromising physicality and shooting quality were just a step above what Glenfin were able to offer as it finished Aodh Ruadh 3-16 Glenfin 2-7. Philip Patton's free taking reliability was, once again, a huge asset for Aodh Ruadh, while Michael McKenna's passing vision unlocked the door for important scores. Eamonn McGrath marshalled centrefield with authority while defensively Eddie Lynch and Conor Patton really impressed. We have a full match report and pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

Despite fielding some seasoned senior players mixed with a host of promising young under 21s, Aodh Ruadh couldn't match Glenfin for tenacity. Goals were in abundance and apart from two converted penalties, one in each half despatched by Dylan Gallagher, Ballyshannon were no match for the scoring power and hunger of the Glenfin men. Best for Aodh Ruadh were Callum "Cookie" O'Halloran, Ryan Granaghan, Donagh McIntyre and Gary Carty. Final score was Aodh Ruadh 3-7 Glenfin 5-10. We have a gallery of shots from the game up at aodhruadh.org.

The seniors and reserves are in league action again next weekend, Convoy the opposition. The seniors will take on the St Mary's men on Sunday at 4.30pm. A day and time for the reserve game is still to be fixed.

It was a fruitless trip down the road for the under 17s last Friday, with the hosts running out 4-9 to 2-7 victors. Next up for the lads is the visit of Cloich Cheann Fhaola to Father Tierney Park this Friday, throw-in at 7.30pm.

The under 13s entertained Dungloe in Father Tierney Park on a lovely summer evening. After an entertaining tussle in the senior game, it was the visitors who took the honours on a scoreline of 5-5 to 6-12. Calum Dorrian was on fire up front, netting four goals while Corey Sheridan, MJ Ward and the excellent Joseph Gibbions took some lovely points. Further out the pitch Fionn Harten and Eoghan Blake Gallagher gave brilliant hard-working displays. In the junior game Jack Gormley pulled off some brilliant saves in goals and had great cover from Aaron McLoone in defence - clearly taking after the oul fella. Meanwhile Anton Duffy and Sean Maguire in put in a Trojan shift and Finn Doogan was an exceptionally good target man up front, winning lots of ball. Check out our gallery of images from the games on aodhruadh.org. The next assignment for the under 13s comes next Monday when they travel to Donegal Town to take on Four Masters with the senior game throwing in at 7.30pm.

Our under 11 internal league continues this Thursday, all teams to be in Father Tierney Park on Thursday for 5.15pm. The team are away to Dungloe on Saturday morning for round two of our Go Games, all boys to be in Dungloe for 10.30am.

The under 9s began their campaign with a successful trip to Glenties on Saturday. The boys came out on top in the three games with all of our 40 players seeing game time. It was great to see some of our younger players lining out for the first time in an Aodh Ruadh jersey. Many thanks to the Naomh Conaill club for the hospitality shown after the game.

Hurling
The final whistle at Hibernian Park in the Senior Hurling League clash between Burt and Aodh Ruadh saw it finishing 0-17 to 0-12 in favour of the homesters. It was gallant performance from an understrength Erneside outfit, and Burt finished strongly to win. Despite being short a few key players, Aodh Ruadh made light of it to head in at the interval with a 0-9 to 0-4 lead. Burt responded by introducing Donegal senior player Christopher McDermott at half time and he made a big difference for his side. The Ballyshannon lads showed plenty of character in a tough, hard-hitting encounter, and it was well into the final quarter before Burt managed to claim the lead. It's worth noting that it is over 30 years since Aodh Ruadh last kept a clean sheet in Burt. This was a good all-round performance by the 17 players who travelled. Our scorers were Garreth Sheerin (0-9f), Ciaran Kilgannon (0-2) and Senan Rooney (0-1). The lads are at home to Dungloe this Friday in Father Tierney Park at 7.30pm.

Our under 17s had their game against Burt postponed. They continue to train at their normal times.

The under 15s had an agonising loss to Easkey in the Táin Óg league last Wednesday at the Sligo Centre of Excellence in Scarden. After a very slow start our lads came back into the game after the water break and into the second half, and finally took the lead with five minutes on the clock. Unfortunately, Easkey rallied themselves, and put us away with a late goal to win by a point. The side face Setanta away in the Donegal league this Thursday.

Our under 13s continued their season with a comprehensive win over Dungloe / Gaoth Dobhair at home on Thursday evening, 3-15 to 1-4 the final scoreline. Well done to all the team and coaches. We have a gallery of images from the game live on aodhruadh.org. The squad continue in the Táin Óg league this week with a home game against Coolera-Strandhill in Father Tierney Park.

We have had a number of under 11 players link up with our under 13 team. Whilst it is great to have these youngsters training, ideally we want to see a few more under 11s join up and training as an under 11 team. For now, any under 11 player has two options, join with our under 9 training pod on a Sunday morning for a couple weeks to see how they get on, or join with the under 13 team. Any parent who has a child in this age bracket that wants to play please contact John Larkin on 086-1076883. We hope to have a “Come and give it a go” session in the first two weeks of July, for kids to come along and try hurling for an hour, learn some of the skills and hopefully come back more regularly afterwards!

Our under 7 and under 9 teams had their first outing of the year with a blitz against Four Master in Donegal town. In total we had 36 youngsters take part, and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all the parents for travelling, and to Four Masters for hosting a great morning of hurling. We are still welcoming new players for our under 5, under 7 and under 9 groups, so any parent who would like their child to join one of these age groups can contact John Larkin on 086-1076883. We continue with our Sunday morning hurling at 11.45am in Páirc Aodh Ruadh.

Ladies
The senior Aodh Ruadh ladies made it two wins in a row with a convincing win over Gaeil Fhánada. Aodh Ruadh led by seven points at the break and pushed on over the course of the second half to finish 3-18 to 1-5 victors. Up front Cáit Gillespie was in very accurate form, while out the pitch Orla Keon was always making herself available as an option. Sara Gallagher had a great tussle with Gaels danger-woman Lauren Carr, while Elaine Dorrian had an excellent return to competitive football in 2021 between the sticks. We have a gallery of pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

It was an improving performance from the reserve ladies in their first ever home game. Kilcar were the guests on a lovely morning for football in Ballyshannon. There wasn't much between the teams in the first half with points from Katie Gallagher and Mary Flora Scott helping make it Aodh Ruadh 0-5 Kilcar 1-5 at the turnaround. Kilcar hit a purple patch in the third quarter, and while Aodh Ruadh came back with one of their own in the final quarter, including a well-worked goal from Mary Flora Scott and a wonder-point from an acute angle by Amanda Mahon, it was the visitors who ran out four-point winners. A very encouraging display from the Ballyshannon girls. Katie Gallagher and Ciara Gillespie were very lively in the attack. Erin O'Loughlin and Niamh Hughes both worked hard in the middle third. Defensively Ciara Buggy, Megan McGee, Nicole McCabe Rebecca Gillespie and Shauna Dolan put in a great shift, with Roisin Maguire a great asset between the posts. We have a historic first gallery of images of our reserve ladies in action on aodhruadh.org.

The ladies now have a break from league action until Sunday 4th July.

The under 16s had a much-improved performance as they took on Grange in a challenge last week. The girls worked hard across the pitch, played as a team and delivered some fast direct football and some fantastic scores, especially in the final quarter. A good win for the Aodh Ruadh girls, who brought a great attitude to the game and showed lots of improvement in every sector.

The under 14 ladies had an entertaining challenge against Grange last Thursday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Nessa Mitchell scored a goal of the season contender, while Emily McNamee did a great job linking up play. Further out the pitch Jessica O'Mahoney was a real Duracell bunny around the middle of the park, with Orlaith Gallagher also very influential. In the defence Tara Gallagher showed great strength on the ball and Megan Murphy was once again an assured presence. We have a great gallery of pictures from the game live on aodhruadh.org.

The under 12s had two very useful friendlies in the last week against Four Masters and Saint Naul's. The girls played some brilliant football and really enjoyed the return to matches. We are playing Grange at home this Wednesday evening. All girls to be in the park for 6pm, throw-in at 6.20pm.

Football
It wasn't the fireworks that Aodh Ruadh spectators have become accustomed too in recent times, but this workmanlike display from Barry Ward's men was sufficient to secure the points against Convoy, 1-12 to 0-8 the final score. Aodh Ruadh were hot favourites, but struggled to rise to that tag on a sultry afternoon in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh with a good attendance present. There was just two between the sides at the break, but Aodh Ruadh did up the ante somewhat in the second period to finish deserved winners, a smartly struck goal by Cian Rooney sealing the deal. Nathan Boyle was once again Aodh Ruadh's talisman around the centre, his spring-heeled stylings giving his side a dynamism and inventiveness in the middle third that Convoy had no answer for. Philip Patton top scored and contributed well in open play too, while further back Kyle Murray is already looking very much at home in senior football. We have a full match report and pictures from the game live on aodhruadh.org now.

The reserves followed up on the seniors big win with a comprehensive 3-13 to 0-7 victory in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Every Aodh Ruadh player held their own and a number of the younger players and particularly the senior reserve debutants really stood out. Conor Foy, Darragh Gallagher and Colm McGloin were very assured at the back, whilst Dylan Gallagher and Ryan Granaghan bossed the middle, with Dylan registering a very impressive 1-5. Kerry Ryan took over between the posts and may have found himself a new position, keeping a clean sheet and distributing nicely from the kick outs. Dylan Gallagher opened the scoring from play, which was soon followed by a Cian Rooney free and a nice score from Mardy McGarrigle, to see Aodh Ruadh lead 0-3 to 0-1 at the first water break. Donagh McIntrye, another from Gallagher and a second Rooney free stretched the lead, before Eoin Doherty raised the first green flag of the match with a great run in from the sideline before slotting past the Naomh Mhuire keeper from a tight angle. Doherty then turned provider to square to Dylan Gallagher who collected and slotted for the home side's second goal. Cian Rooney added the final score of the half to leave Aodh Ruadh comfortably ahead 2-7 to 0-3 at the turnaround. Two more from Gallagher either side of an Odhran McGarrigle point stretched the lead further, before the result was put beyond any doubt by a well taken Mardy McGarrigle goal. Tiernan Dolan took his chance well before Mardy and Dylan concluded the scoring. For Convoy, corner forward Darren Bonner stood out registering four of their points, three of those from dead ball. Peter Gallagher can be happy with the effort from his young team and in particular the debutants. The team was as follows: Kerry Ryan; Darragh Gallagher, Calum O’Halloran, Conor Foy; Conall McGloin, Tiernan Dolan (0-1), Ciaran Slevin; Ryan Granaghan, Dylan Gallagher (1-5, 1f); Ryan McKenna, Donagh McIntyre (0-1), Harry Howarth; Eoin Doherty (1-0), Cian Rooney (0-3, 2f), Mardy McGarrigle (1-2). Subs: Dermot Slevin for Cian Rooney (HT), Odhrán McGarrigle (0-1) for Harry Howarth, James Barron for Ryan Granaghan, Conal Bradshaw for Ciaran Slevin, Rory Gettins for Ryan McKenna, Brian Gillespie, David McLoone. We have pictures from this game on aodhruadh.org.

The seniors and reserves are in league action again this Sunday with a trip to face Dungloe. The seniors game throws in at 2pm, followed by the reserve match at 4.30pm.

The under 17s clash with Cloich Cheann Fhaola fell by the wayside last Friday with the visitors unable to field. Their next assignment is a trip to take on Ardara this Friday, throw-in at 7.30pm.

The under 13s were in Tir Chonaill Park on Monday evening to take on a strongly fancied Four Masters side. The first half was tough on the boys and the sides turned around with the hosts 20 points to the good. Aodh Ruadh really showed their spirit in the second half with the boys putting in a mighty performance. The whole team was outstanding, with Sean O'Neill terrific at centre back, while Corey Sheridan and Joseph Gibbions were both exceptional. Antoin O’Loughlin put in a serious work rate and was brilliant. After a really enjoyable tussle between two teams which really went at it the final score was Aodh Ruadh 7-7 Four Masters 8-14. The Ballyshannon scorers were Corey Sheridan 3-3, Callum Dorrian 2-2, Joseph Gibbions 1-1, Eoghan 'Blake' Gallagher 1-0, MJ Ward 0-1, Garreth Brennan 0-1, and Antoin O'Loughlin 0-1. The team have another away assignment next Monday, this time away to scenic Towney, with Kilcar the hosts.

Our under 11s played Dungloe away on a sun-soaked Saturday morning. We travelled with 25 players, with all boys getting full games. We played three games of highly entertaining, end to end football. All teams were very even, and although scores are not recorded in Go Games, it’s fair to say there wasn’t more than a kick of the ball between any of the teams playing in the three games. Our under 11 internal league again takes place in Father Tierney Park this Thursday from 5.30pm to 7pm. This is the final round of the league, and a finals day will take place later in the season.

Our under 9s are in action this Friday evening at 7pm against Manorhamilton. All players should be at the pitch in Manorhamilton for 6.40pm.

Hurling
The senior hurlers sank to defeat in Father Tierney Park last Friday against Dungloe / Gaoth Dobhair, the visitors grabbing a 1-10 to 0-16 victory. Aodh Ruadh had the better of the opening half and went in leading by 1-7 to 0-3. The goal came from quick thinking by Senan Rooney who picked out his brother, Oisin, with a quick free and he found the back of the net. Gareth Sheerin was also on form with some nice points in that opening half. However, Dungloe / Gaoth Dobhair turned up the intensity in the second period and aided by 11 frees from the stick of Thomas Hartnett they forged on for the victory. Check out aodhruadh.org for some pictures from the game. The lads are at home to Dungloe this Friday in Father Tierney Park at 7.30pm.

Our under 5s, under 7s and under 9s are taking a week off training this Sunday, but we will be back in action on Sunday, 11th July when we welcome Four Masters for a blitz at 10am. We had a fantastic morning of hurling this week, and welcomed five new recruits between under 5s, under 7s and under 9s. The kids are having great craic developing their skills and enjoying the fun. Anyone interested in joining up can contact John on 086-1076883.

Our first under 11 Give-It-A-Go session will take place next week, and a second one the week after. Details will be in next week's club notes and all club social media. Any parent who has a child in this age bracket who wants to play should contact John Larkin on 086-107688. We would especially encourage members of our under 11 football team to come along to this, as well as any children who are not currently playing football or other sports.

The under 13s continued their season with a comprehensive win over Coolera-Strandhill at home in the Táin Óg League. Well done to all the team and coaches. This week they face Setanta away in the Donegal League on Thursday evening.

Well done also to our under 15s who had a convincing win over a young Setanta team away from home in the Donegal League. This week they face Coolera-Strandhill in the Táin Óg League in Ransboro.

Our under 17s continue to train at their usual times.

A number or parents have kindly donated hurleys and helmets that are no longer in use. If you have any hurls or helmets you would like to see put to good use, please let us know and we would be delighted to give them a new lease of life!

Ladies

The under 16s commence their Division 3 league campaign tomorrow, Tuesday, with a long run to take on Glenswilly. Throw in for that game is 7pm.

Also making their league bow this week are our under 14 girls, they'll be taking on Naomh Conaill in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Saturday at 1pm.

On Wednesday then it is the turn of the under 12s to go into competitive action when they host MacCumhaill's at 6.30pm.

Finally, our under 10 girls will entertain Saint Naul's for a blitz on Tuesday at 6.15pm in Father Tierney Park.

We wish all our underage teams going into action this week the best of luck for the season ahead.

John Rooney completed his epic and gruelling Mizen to Malin cycle last week in what was a great fund-raiser for two very deserving charities - Little Blue Heroes and North West STOP - Suicide Prevention. John left Mizen Head at 6am on Thursday and arrived in Malin Head at 4pm on Friday having covered 616 kilometres. John would like to thank his support team of Eleanor Rooney, Pamela Zarb, Tony Cummins, Barry Doyle, John Prunty and Meabh Rooney. John would also like to thank all who donated to the charities and came out to support him in Ballyshannon, and left messages of support on social media. The link to donate at https://www.idonate.ie/JohnRooney will remain open for another 10 days, so please feel free to further boost the final total raised for these good causes.
