Football
Following a 2024 where little went right, there was a great hope that Aodh Ruadh could start 2025 on a much more upbeat note. It wasn't going to be easy, with a strong Dungloe side the opposition in Father Tierney Park on Saturday afternoon, but Ballyshannon played some good football to deliver the goods in difficult climatic conditions.
Aodh Ruadh had a strong breeze behind them and the onus was clearly on the hosts to run up a tally in the first 30 minutes. They got off to a good start with Diarmaid McInerney winning a free and then dusting himself down to raise the first orange flag of the game.
Two minutes later Eamonn McGrath raced through the rearguard before laying off to Cian Rooney who advanced on goal before placing a precision shot under the keeper.
That was followed by a lull before Nathan Boyle hoisted over a glorious effort to make it 1-4 to 0-0 after 13 minutes.
The homesters had a early blow though as they lost David Dolan to injury, Jack Gallagher coming in following his contribution to the Donegal under 20s win over Down earlier in the afternoon.
Dungloe capitalised with Barry Curran squeezing over from a tight angle to open his side's account, but the Ernesiders responded emphatically with a quick raid up the pitch finding the visitors' defence AWOL, allowing Shane McGrath to cruise through and blast to the net.
Ballyshannon then won the kick out and Cian Rooney clipped over off the trusty left boot.
It was far from one way traffic though and Peter Boyle had to be at his best to go full stretch and deny a rocket of a shot from Daire Gallagher.
The next score came 23 minutes in with Diarmaid McInerney guiding over a free after a foul on Shane McGrath. Then two minutes from the break McInerney flighted over a tricky placed ball from out on the left to leave it Aodh Ruadh 2-7 Dungloe 0-1 at the break.
Truth be told, 12 points didn't look an insurmountable deficit and it was going to take a determined effort from Aodh Ruadh through the next 30 minutes if they were to come out on the right side of the scoreline.
They got off to a great start with some good work from Shane McGrath creating a fabulous goal chance, but Danny Rogers reacted bravely to deflect Darren Drummond's thunderous shot over for a point.
Dungloe replied three minutes later with Ryan Connors landing a two pointer from play, but Aodh Ruadh continued to carry a lively attacking threat and Shane McGrath was again involved to create a chance which Jack Gallagher coolly converted to make it 2-9 to 0-6 on 39 minutes.
The sides then swapped scores twice in succession with a Barry Curran point being answered by a Jack Gallagher free. That was followed by a lovely goal from Darragh Flood Dolan, the sub gliding in on goal before placing a sweet shot past Rogers. The jubilation didn't last long though, with Dungloe racing up the pitch and Matthew O'Donnell making no mistake one-on-one with Peter Boyle.
The homesters had a chance to put the game to bed in the 52nd minute after Eamonn McGrath won a penalty, but Jack Gallagher's shot blasted back off the framework and he could only palm the rebound wide. That gave Dungloe an injection of life and after some sloppy play in the Aodh Ruadh defence Oisin Bonner was able to tap to the net to make it 3-10 to 2-7 with six minutes left on the clock. Bonner then followed that up with a brace of two pointers, however, by that stage Aodh Ruadh had just about done enough and Kevin McGinley's long whistle sounded to see Jimmy Langan's side securing their first league points of the 2025 season on with final score board reading Aodh Ruadh 3-10 Dungloe 2-11.
A well-deserved victory for Aodh Ruadh in difficult weather conditions. It was good to see Peter Boyle back between the sticks, while in the defence Eoghan Kelly put in a eye-catching shift. Eamonn McGrath and Matt Gillespie both had good outings in the middle third. In the attack Shane McGrath was pulling the strings and Jack Gallagher also contributing well on his introduction. A special mention too for Eoin Cassidy who made his senior debut for the club. Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a gallery of shots from the game live.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Callum O'Halloran, Kyle Murray, Aidan Sweeny; Colm McGloin, Eddie Lynch, Eoghan Kelly; Eamonn McGrath, Matt Gillespie; Nathan Boyle (0-2, 2pt), Shane McGrath (1-0), David Dolan; Cian Rooney (1-1), Darren Drummond (0-1), Diarmaid McInerney (0-4, 2f, 1 2pf). Subs: Jack Gallagher (0-2, 1f) for David Dolan (inj) 14 minutes; Senan Rooney for Diarmaid McInerney 42 minutes; Eoin Cassidy for Darren Drummond 44 minutes; Darragh Flood Dolan (1-0) on for Colm McGloin 48 minutes.

With Father Tierney Park having already hosted the under 20 game between Donegal and Down, the reserves first game of the season took place in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The wind was a factor in this encounter, swirling cross pitch, but seeming to favour the team shooting into the Erne end of the ground. Aodh Ruadh were playing the other way in the first half and they had their hands full with a lively Dungloe outfit.
It was the homesters who had the first point of the game, Donagh McIntyre landing a difficult score into the breeze. Dungloe quickly cancelled that out though and shot themselves into the lead seven minutes in. A minute later Ballyshannon were back on terms when Philip Patton teed up Ted O'Donnell to clip over. Damian Weber then put his side in front with a superb free from just inside the D.
Next came a candidate for score of the game with Ted O'Donnell roving out of defence and working a one two with Odhran McGarrigle, before sprinting 50 metres and planting a scorching shot past the stunned Dungloe netminder.
Six minutes from half-time more intelligent play from Philip Patton released Damian Weber on goal, but he was fouled and Patton was able to finish his good work to make it Aodh Ruadh 1-5 Dungloe 0-3.
The Reds pulled back two points from frees, but the last say of the half went the way of the hosts. Michael Ward looked to be bottled up on the endline, but he managed to turn back inside and get the ball to Harry Howarth and he drilled a stinging shot to the net to leave Aodh Ruadh well on top at the break.
Dungloe opened the new half with a good score from play, but the Ernesiders struck back a good score when Tiernan Flood Dolan laid off to Barry Campbell who hared through on goal before fisting over. In the 38th minute Campbell was in the action again, this time with a great catch before being fouled which allowed Philip Patton to send over his second free of the day.
There was some great defending by the hosts, with Ryan McKenna really leading the way. That was exemplified by a brilliant block in the 40th minute to deny a goal, Dungloe having to be satisfied with a point on this occasion. With the game moving into the final quarter Aodh Ruadh stretched their lead thanks a lovely point from Cian Dolan after good patient build-up play. That was followed a couple of minutes later by Donagh McIntyre lofting over. That was the end of Ballyshannon's scoring contribution to the game, and although Dungloe managed to hit some fine scores over the remaining minutes, including a top-class two pointer, there was just too much ground for them to make up and it finished with Aodh Ruadh winners on a final scoreline of 2-9 to 0-11.
A very impressive return to action for the Ballyshannon men which will leave Brian Gillespie and Dan Warnock very pleased. Aaron Cullen kicked well in difficult conditions, while Michael Ward was hugely assured at full back. Indeed, it was a very strong display across the defence with Ryan McKenna, Ted O'Donnell, James Gallagher, Shane Gillespie and Gary Carty all contributing handsomely to the victory. Up front Aodh Ruadh had an embarrassment of riches. Philip Patton's clever passing was a huge asset, while McIntyre, Weber and Campbell tortured their markers all game. Check out the gallery of pictures from the game on aodhruadh.org.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Aaron Cullen; Ryan Keenaghan, Michael Ward, James Gallagher; Gary Carty, Shane Gillespie, Ted O'Donnell (1-1); Cian Dolan (0-1), Odhran McGarrigle; Harry Howarth (1-0), Philip Patton (0-2f) Ryan McKenna; Damian Weber (0-1f), Donagh McIntyre (0-3, 1 2pt), Barry Campbell (0-1)
Tiernan Flood Dolan for Ryan Keenaghan (inj) 11 minutes; Garvey Meade for Harry Howarth 41 minutes; Cian McKenna for Odhran McGarrigle 55 minutes; Oisin Kerr for Donagh McIntyre 58 minutes.

This Saturday Aodh Ruadh are on the road to the Banks as they travel to take on Naomh Mhuire. The reserves get the action under way at 5pm, with the senior game following at 6.30pm.

Well done to manager Barry Ward, squad members Joe Gibbions and Garreth Brennan and the Donegal minors who booked their place in the Ulster Minor League final after they powered past Armagh at O’Donnell Park on Saturday afternoon. For the second game on the trot Gibbions chalked up 1-2 as the hosts put on a shooting masterclass to run out winners on a 3-11 to 1-9 scoreline. Best of luck to Barry Ward's charges this Saturday as they take on Tyrone in the Ulster Minor League final at Maghera. Throw-in is at 12 noon for what promises to be a cracking decider.

The under 16s will be back in action next Monday, 7th April, with another home game. Ardara will be the opposition with the action throwing in at 6.45pm in Father Tierney Park.

Our under 10s had a great day out at the National Sports Arena in Abbottstown on Saturday. The boys enjoyed six games against great opposition from Ederney, Enniskillen, Four Masters and Trillick. Well done to the lads on some fantastic football and thanks to everyone who helped out on what was a memorable day out for the squad.

Hurling
Last week's senior clash against Belnaleck didn't take place with six of the McMurrough's men lining out with Fermanagh in their league final. To make up for that Aodh Ruadh have a busy weekend ahead. They have their first outing in the Donegal Senior League this Friday when they travel down to the Crossroads to take on Setanta, throw in at 7pm for that one. Then on Sunday they are on their travels again with a match against Knock Grattan's at 12 noon in Donagh's Louis Leonard Memorial Park in the Ulster Junior Hurling League.

The minors get their season under way this Thursday with a home fixture against Setanta. Throw in at Father Tierney Park will be 6.30pm. Best of luck to Paul Sheridan, Mark Sheerin and the whole squad for the season ahead.

Underage hurling is back on Sunday mornings at the usual time of 11.45am on the top pitch at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. New players are welcome, with hurls and helmets supplied. The next few weeks would be an ideal time to start as we refresh the basics at each age bracket. If you would like your child to have the opportunity to play our national sport, contact the appropriate manager below:-
Under 8s: Stephen Sheerin - 086-8616927
Under 10s: Martin Larkin – 086-8033596
Under 12s: John Larkin – 086-1076883
Our under 6 training will start later this month.

Ladies
The Aodh Ruadh Division 1 ladies made the 160 mile round trip to Moville on Sunday morning for their opening tie in the 2025 league programme. It was a bright morning, but there was a breeze which favoured the side playing down the hill. The hosts had the elements in the first half and were able to make good use of them over the opening 30 minutes.
It was the Ernesiders who registered first though, with Cadhla Dolan firing over after a good early move. Moville answered that with 1-2 over the space of the four following minutes, and the visitors suffered a further reverse when Brídín Maguire was injured and had to be replaced between the posts by Sister Roisín.
Aodh Ruadh did get the next score, Terri Gallagher firing over a lovely shot, but Moville took a controlling grip on the game over the next five minutes, hitting 3-2 to leave the Shamettes with a mountain to climb over the remaining 40 minutes.
They didn't let the heads drop though and a point from Caitlyn Gallagher after a good passing move in the 22nd minute inspired a mini rally. That was followed by a nice shot by Gillian Dufficy from range and then Cadhla Dolan added a free to take Aodh Ruadh's first half tally to five points. Moville added a free just before the break to leave them on 4-5 and a 12 point lead.
The third quarter saw little in the way of scoring action. Katie McGowan cut the deficit with a 35th minute point, but Moville were able to match that a minute later.
Similarly, points from Ciara Larkin and Gillian Dufficy were both responded to in kind.
The final quarter saw six further points, but unfortunately all but one off the boot of Cadhla Dolan went the way of the hosts as it finished Aodh Ruadh 0-9 Moville 4-13. The final scoreline doesn't do justice to the Aodh Ruadh effort with the Shamettes rattling the crossbar no less than six times.
A tough opener for the Ballyshannon girls. In the defence Rebecca McLaughlin and Megan Murphy both put in a good shift, while Katie McGowan tried hard in midfield. In the attack Gillian Dufficy was a danger any time she was on the ball and Terri Gallagher also fought to the very end. Best wishes to Brídín Maguire for a speedy recovery.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Brídín Maguire, Aodhbha O'Donnell, Roisin McGloin, Grainne Maguire; Rebecca McLaughlin, Síofra Hughes, Megan Murphy; Orla Keon, Katie McGowan (0-1); Cadhla Dolan (0-3, 1f), Gillian Dufficy (0-2), Terri Gallagher (0-1) Caitlyn Gallagher (0-1), Ciara Larkin (0-1), Caoimhe Devine. Subs: Roisín Maguire for Brídín Maguire; Emer McDevitt for Aodhbha O'Donnell.
The senior ladies are back in action this Sunday when they will be entertaining Ardara in Father Tierney Park at 10am. That will be followed by the first outing of the year for our Division 3 team at 11.30am. It would be great to see a good crowd up to get behind the ladies on Sunday.

The under 16s start their season this Tuesday with a trip up the N15 to take on Four Masters. Best of luck to the team and management for the coming season.

Well done to Cáit Gillespie played the full game as Donegal entertained Cork in Father Tierney Park on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately it ended in a one goal defeat for the Tir Chonaill ladies. Thank you to the minor ladies who helped steward on the day and everyone who made the day a success.

Under 8 training continues this Tuesday at 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. We are always delighted to see new faces, so why not come up and join the craic!

There is a meeting of the Ladies Football Underage committee this Wednesday at 8.30pm in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. All committee members are asked to attend.

USA Tour Groups
For the third successive year we will host over 100 American tour groups at our grounds. Our season started last week and will continue until November. We have a small core team of Aodh Ruadh volunteers who give generously of their time to this initiative and who are supported in the demonstrations by Coláiste Cholmcille transition year students, many of whom are club players and whose participation is an important part of the experience for our visitors. This initiative is a key contributor to keeping momentum behind the major programme of development work which is underway at both Father Tierney Park and at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, and which continues apace. We would like to recruit two or three more club members to assist with delivering the tours and who would initially accompany one of our existing Aodh Ruadh guides. If interested please speak to Michael Daly, Sarah Drummond, Patsy Kilgannon or Tom Daly. It entails about four hours time commitment, mainly Monday to Friday, throughout 2025.

Last One Standing
Our 2025 competition drew to a dramatic close on Saturday when Rob Knott became our outright winner. There were 15 players left in week eight but Rob was the sole participant to back Limerick to beat Wexford in the Division 4 final. Congratulations are extended to Rob on his fine win. Rob was also one of our top ten sellers this year! The juvenile hurling committee would like to thank all the participants who supported this annual fund raiser, all of our sellers and of course, Liam at Mr G's for his continued support and sponsorship of the competition. That's a wrap until next year!

Football
Aodh Ruadh's first away assignment of the 2025 league saw them heading to the Banks to take on Naomh Muire. The first half was low-scoring fare, but with the hosts hitting the net twice they were the ones in the ascendancy as the sides turned around at 2-2 to 0-4.
The Annagry men started the day's scoring with a goal before Ballyshannon responded with a point, followed by a two pointer from Jack Gallagher. Naomh Mhuire's answer was to hoist their second green flag of the day, quickly adding a point. Eddie Lynch guided over a good answering score, however with Naomh Mhuire registering the last point of the half it was they who were the happier side at the break.
The opening exchanges of the second half saw Aodh Ruadh taking charge of proceedings somewhat, tagging on five points to leave just a point between them, 0-9 to 2-4. However, the Annagry men again found the net to give themselves breathing space once more heading down the stretch. Indeed, Naomh Muire's goal-hunger was notable throughout and Peter Boyle had to pull off some top-drawer stops to prevent them adding to their haul. Aodh Ruadh weren't to be intimidated here though and although Naomh Muire picked off three further points Jimmy Langan's men chased down the lead with commendable determination. Two pointers from Jack Gallagher and Nathan Boyle helped their side to earn a share of the points at the death as it finished Naomh Muire 3-7 Aodh Ruadh 0-16. Peter Boyle was key to the result in this one, not just with his outrageous shot-stopping, but with a diverse range of kick outs which kept Naomh Muire guessing and Aodh Ruadh on the front foot. Jack Gallagher's composure served him well as he nailed a number of key scores, while Nathan Boyle continued his return to form with a dynamic contribution in the final 15 minutes of this game.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Aidan Sweeny, Kyle Murray, Darragh Dolan; Shane Delahunty, Eddie Lynch (0-1), Eoghan Kelly; Cian Dolan, Eamonn McGrath; Matt Gillespie, Shane McGrath, Nathan Boyle (0-6, 3tp); Jack Gallagher (0-9, 4tp), Darren Drummond, Diarmaid McInerney. Subs: Cian Rooney (0-1), Senan Rooney, Eoin Cassidy, Colm McGloin.

In the curtain raiser the reserves chalked up their second consecutive win against a physical Naomh Muire. The visitors were playing into a very stiff breeze in the first half. Scoring into the breeze was difficult, but Aodh Ruadh were full of movement and creativity with the relentless probing runs of young guns Barry Campbell and Garvey Meade causing the hosts considerable difficulty. These resulted in a number of frees being awarded. The chances were all very difficult in the conditions, but Aodh Ruadh had an ace in up their sleeve in the form of Damian Weber who nailed four difficult frees to build up a nice lead for Ballyshannon. With a quarter gone Shane Gillespie played a defence splitting kick pass and slick play between Harry Howarth and Donagh McIntyre put Ted O’Donnell through to rifle home for his second goal in two games. Naomh Muire hit a couple of long range efforts and a fortuitous goal before Barry Campbell tore past three Naomh Muire defenders to drive home at the near post to leave the half-time score 2-9 to 1-5.
Backed by the breeze now, Ballyshannon were content to soak up the pressure and with Donagh McIntyre and Odhran McGarrigle both on song in front of the posts, the Ballyshannon men kept the score board ticking over nicely. And when Barry Campbell tore through the Naomh Muire rearguard for his second goal the day it was a case of job done as it finished 3-20 to 1-10.
This was a fine showing from Aodh Ruadh on the road in difficult conditions. Damian Weber was the key player in the first half with his place kicking setting the tone for the Ernesiders and he will be a very welcome addition to the senior ranks in the coming weeks. Aaron Cullen was influential in the first half, coming out of goals to squeeze Naomh Muire while Ballyshannon were under the cosh with a strong breeze and his kick outs were flawless giving the visitors a solid platform to pull ahead. Barry Campbell and Garvey Meade were both excellent, taking a lot of heavy hits, but never shirking and causing considerable problems for Naomh Muire over the course of 60 minutes. Donagh McIntyre and Odhran McGarrigle both sent over a number of fine long-range efforts to push Ballyshannon home. A memorable day also for Liam Doogan and Oran Gillespie making their adult football debuts.
The Aodh Ruadh team was as follows: Aaron Cullen; Luke Carr, Michael Ward, James Gallagher; Gary Carty, Shane Gillespie, Ted O’Donnell; Odhran McGarrigle, Tiernan Flood Dolan; Garvey Meade, Damian Weber, Ryan McKenna; Barry Campbell, Donagh McIntyre, Harry Howarth. Subs. Oisin Kerr, Ryan Daly, Rory Gethins, Liam Doogan, Cian McKenna, Oran Gillespie.

This Sunday Aodh Ruadh will be welcoming Killybegs to Father Tierney Park. The reserves' clash with the Fishermen gets under way at 1.30pm, with the senior game following at 3pm.

Hard luck to manager Barry Ward, squad members Joe Gibbions and Garreth Brennan and the Donegal minors who lost out in the Ulster minor league final against Tyrone last Saturday. Joe Gibbions was once again on the score sheet, dividing the uprights twice, including a two pointer to finish on 0-3 for the game. Gibbions could have a had a further point, but his effort was chalked off after the officials consulted. His efforts weren't enough to propel Donegal over the line though as the Red Hands ran out 1-13 to 1-15 winners. Best of luck to the team as they prepare now for the Ulster championship.

The under 16s met Ardara in their second outing of the Division 1 Southern league on Monday evening. Played at a sun-splashed Father Tierney Park the first half was very entertaining fare, but, sadly for the Ernesiders, the least said about the second the better.
Ballyshannon were quick off the mark with an MJ Ward shot taking a high bounce off the dry ground over the keeper for a point three minutes in. A minute later and a lovely give and go from Darragh McCready ended with McCready showing great technique to guide the ball over the bar. Aodh Ruadh were purring at this stage as MJ Ward dropped the shoulder and drove in at the posts before rifling over. Then Eoghan McNulty judged the ball in perfectly to collect behind the last defender before popping over.
Ardara then had the game's first goal chance after two good dummies from the Ardara attacker, but Alastair Cian pulled off a great stop to deny him. Then up the other end MJ Ward rounded his man before lashing a shot past the keeper to make it 1-4 to 0-0. Ardara opened their account in the 11th minute with two quick points, but Ballyshannon struck back immediately with Manus Conlon stylishly finishing a good move with placed shot to the bottom corner. Then the man in form, Darragh McCready, split the posts with an absolute peach of a shot. The game moved into the second quarter with Ardara tagging on a free, but Aodh Ruadh continued to dominate and won a free on the Ardara kick out. This was dropped straight into Manus Conlon's hands and he declined the point option and laced a stinging shot past the opposition keeper. An Ardara point from play was quickly answered by a good shot from range by Callum Dorrian. In the few minutes before the break the Pearse Park men came with a late flurry of scores to go in trailing by 3-6 to 0-8.
Although seven points adrift, Ardara had sent out a warning before the break with those three points, which were from turn overs of the Aodh Ruadh kick out. Ardara went after the Aodh Ruadh kick out in the second half with real purpose and it proved the winning of the game. They picked off scores steadily until they levelled the tie in the 47th minute, 3-6 to 0-15. With Ballyshannon seemingly stunned, Ardara were able to keep the score board ticking over at their leisure. It wasn't until the 54th minute that Aodh Ruadh mustered their first score of the second half, an MJ Ward free. That was only a punctuation in the Ardara dominance though and they continued to pile up the scores until Jimmy White's final whistle, which sounded at Aodh Ruadh 3-7 Ardara 0-24.
Aodh Ruadh played their best football in the first half, and in that period Alastair Cian made a couple of class stops. Aaron McLoone's reading of the game was excellent with Micheal McGrath making a number of good interceptions. Darragh McCready was superb on the ball and showed great skill. Eoghan Gallagher soldiered manfully in a middle third which became increasingly overworked. Manus Conlon took his goals superbly, while MJ Ward was highly effective in that first period.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Alastair Cian; Micheal McGrath, Aaron McLoone, Dylan Cullen; Darragh McCready (0-2), Eoghan Gallagher, Cole Connolly; Anton Duffy, Callum Dorrian (0-1); Connor Greenan, MJ Ward (1-3, 1f), Ethan Kerrigan; Eoghan McNulty (0-1), Jack Hassett, Manus Conlon (2-0). Iarla Hartin for Jack Hassett 45 minutes; Oisin McGrath for Connor Greenan 53 minutes.
We have pictures from the game live now on aodhruadh.org.

On the county scene Donegal played Fermanagh under 16s in Lissan last Friday evening. Four 20-minute periods were played with each player getting a half. Calum Dorrian and MJ Ward more than held their own, accounting for 1-10 between them. Donegal were a bit stronger at final whistle with fresh legs making the difference. Well done to the Aodh Ruadh lads on a strong outing.

Under 14 training has moved from the Lakeside to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Mondays and Fridays from 5.30 to 7pm.

The under 12s were in action over the weekend with the Division 1A team having a good win yesterday away to Dungloe on Saturday. It proved to be a tight game, and it was well into the second half before the Ballyshannon boys pulled away to win by seven points. A large slice of the credit for this win has to go to an excellent display of defending from the full back line of Alex Gallagher and Ryan McGarrigle.
Meanwhile the Division 1B squad faced the same opposition and came away with a narrow defeat. The lads showed great spirit to battle hard in the second half to come back from ten points down to narrow the margin to just three by the final whistle. In what was a highly entertaining game of football there were excellent displays from James McMurray in defence and Axel McWeeney in the middle of the field.
The next fixtures for the Aodh Ruadh lads will be on Friday when Ardara make the trip to Ballyshannon. The Division 1A game is down for a 6pm throw-in with the Division 1B game at 7.15pm.

Under 10 training commences outdoors on Tuesday evening at Coláiste Colmcille from 7pm to 8pm. Further details on a second session will be posted on the WhatsApp group when pitch bookings are confirmed.

Our under 8 footballers had their first taste of action for 2025 in sunshine down with Four Masters. We had four teams playing and each got four matches against each of the Four Masters teams. Thanks to Rory O’Donnell for hosting, and we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Ballyshannon in the coming weeks.

Hurling
It was a weekend of contrasting fortunes for the senior hurlers. On Friday evening, the squad travelled to Killygordon with the bare minimum of players — never an ideal situation, and history has shown that arriving at the Cross short-handed rarely ends well. Unfortunately, this time was no exception. A sharp early goal from Setanta set the tone for a dominant opening 15 minutes, during which the home side seemed to swarm the pitch, outnumbering Ballyshannon in every sector.
A well-taken goal by Senan Rooney offered a moment of relief and settled the visitors somewhat, but they still found themselves trailing significantly at the break, 3-17 to 1-6. The second half, however, saw a much-improved showing. Ballyshannon brought renewed intensity and matched Setanta in every area of the pitch. Aaron Cullen was a constant threat up front, with Danny Breen orchestrating play and contributing some classy scores. Despite the spirited comeback, the gap proved too wide to close, and Setanta ran out deserved winners.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Tommy Clyne; Martin Larkin, Ciaran Rami; Ryan O’Brien, Stephen Connolly, Lennon Canney; Senan Rooney (1-4), Johnny Lin; Cian McKenna, Aaron Cullen (0-4), Gareth Sheerin (1-4); Cian McDonald, Danny Breen (0-2, 1f).
Sunday brought a welcome change of momentum as the seniors travelled to Knocks, just outside Lisnaskea. From the throw-in, it was clear that Ballyshannon meant business. They dominated proceedings from start to finish in what was a largely one-sided affair.
There were stand-out performances right across the pitch, particularly from some of the younger players. Dara O’Mahoney impressed with a composed showing at corner back, while Tommy Clyne - stepping out from his usual goalkeeping role, was exceptional at half back and later midfield, even chipping in with a few fine scores. Up front, Cian McDonald illuminated the game with two spectacular goals and three points in a confident display.
Next up is an away fixture against MacCumhaill's in the Donegal League on Friday evening at 7.30pm.

Congratulations to Aodh Ruadh lads: Eoghan and Oisin McCadden, Jayden McGrath-Clyne, Daithi Sheerin, Antoin Duffy and Antoin O'Loughlin who were all part of the Donegal minor panel that defeated Sligo 3-11 to 1-12 in their opening match in the 2025 Celtic Challenge at Sligo Centre of Excellence on Saturday.

Best of luck to Paul Sheridan, Mark Sheerin and all the minor panel as they travel to Letterkenny. After a disappointing postponement last week, the team will be hoping to get their 2025 League campaign underway as they meet Saint Eunan's. Throw-in at O'Donnell park will be at 6.30pm.

Some of our coaches were out and about in local schools last week and we were delighted to welcome a number of new hurlers on Sunday morning. Training continues this week, with the under 12s starting their mid-week slot at 5.45pm on Tuesday.

Underage hurling training for younger age grades continues on Sunday mornings at the usual time of 11.45am on the top pitch at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. New players are welcome, with hurls and helmets supplied. The next few weeks would be an ideal time to start as we refresh the basics at each age bracket. Ladies
Aodh Ruadh's Division 1 ladies marked their first home game of the season with a win against a gritty Ardara outfit in a blustery Father Tierney Park on Sunday morning. Ballyshannon had the backing of the wind in the first half, but it was a Cadhla Dolan goal at the very stroke of half-time which made the difference. In the second half the Ernesiders were held scoreless, but put in a defensive masterclass to claim a 1-5 to 0-6 victory.
Aodh Ruadh had a strong following wind in the first half and made good use of it from the get-go with Gillian Dufficy sending over a great shot. A minute later Roisin Maguire had to be alert, making a brilliant reaction save from a point-blank effort on goal. Ardara did get off the mark six minutes in with what would be the first of three first half frees. However, Ballyshannon cancelled that out a minute later when Orla Keon carved through and split the posts. Aodh Ruadh extended their lead with Cadhla Dolan showing great vision to direct a pass into the attack where it was worked to Orla Keon for another fine finish. Keon followed that up with another point as the game moved into the second quarter, but the hosts had Roisin Maguire to thank for preserving their lead when she made a penalty save shortly after. Ardara did manage to convert a free, however Aodh Ruadh responded with a great move started with a ball from defence by Terri Gallagher which was chased down by Rachel Gillespie and fed to Gillian Dufficy who curled over a beautiful shot. Ardara responded with another free five minutes from the break, but again Ballyshannon had an answer. On the stroke of half time a lateral ball across the face of goal came to Cadhla Dolan who thought about taking her point for a second before dropping the shoulder and sending a low shot to the bottom right corner to make it Aodh Ruadh 1-5 Ardara 0-3 at the break. That score was to prove crucial
The scoring rate dropped precipitously in the second half, with Ardara the only team troubling the umpires. They had their first score from play after 40 minutes, but it took another 15 minutes before they registered their second, leaving Aodh Ruadh with five minutes to defend a three-point lead. The visitors did manage another score, but that was three minutes into added time and by then the Ernesiders had done enough.
Although Aodh Ruadh didn't score in the second half they put in a brilliant defensive display with Ella Clancy, Rebecca McLaughlin and Katie McGowan really pulling out all the stops. In the centre of the pitch the return of Anna-Lisa Rabbitte brought a lot of stability in this sector. Up front Cadhla Dolan had a player of the match performance, dropping deep to unleash some brilliant kick passes, and of course getting the game's decisive goal. Orla Keon and Gillian Dufficy were balls of energy and really tested the Ardara defence. Ciara Larkin had an excellent match, like Dolan, dropping deep, winning ball and using it intelligently. Roisin Maguire did well between the posts too, keeping a clean sheet and stopping a penalty.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follow: Roisín Maguire; Ella Clancy, Síofra Hughes, Roisin McGloin; Emer O'Brien, Rebecca McLaughlin, Katie McGowan; Caoimhe Hughes O'Brien, Anna-Lisa Rabbitte; Caoimhe Devine, Orla Keon (0-3), Cadhla Dolan (1-0); Terri Gallagher, Ciara Larkin, Gillian Dufficy (0-2). Subs: Rachel Gillespie for Caoimhe Devine 18 minutes; Aoife Travers for Terri Gallagher 52 minutes.

The junior ladies hosted Kilcar for their first game of the season. This was one of those games, more common than one might expect, where the teams actually played their best football against the breeze.
It was Aodh Ruadh who faced into the elements for the first half and they got off to a good start, a typically classy finish from Elaine Dorrian followed not long after by a shot from Caitlyn Gallagher finding its way to the net. Kilcar got their first point four minutes and from there to the interval the teams swapped scores regularly. Eva McNamara landed her first point of the day before Caitlyn Gallagher doubled her tally off the left boot. The Shamettes then raised their second green flag of the day, Elaine Dorrian finding the target once again. Sarah Daly became her side's fourth scorer not long before the break to leave the sides heading for the dressing room with the hosts edging it 2-4 to 1-6.
Kilcar gave an early notice of intent in the second half, forcing Roisín Maguire into a fantastic reaction save. The visitors fashioned a good response though to level it a minute in. Aodh Ruadh came back with a deserved point for Ellen Monaghan, however it was not Kilcar came with a spurt of scores which decided the game. First, they levelled it with a point and then a quick-fire 1-1 in the 36th minute left it at 2-9 to 2-5. It was a lead the Towney girls were to protect to the final whistle. Aodh Ruadh came back with an Eva McNamara free after a foul on Ellen Monaghan, before adding an exquisite score from Elaine Dorrian. Kilcar raided up the pitch from the kick out though and found the back of the net to stretch back out into the lead once more with the game going into final quarter. They added two more points, and although Ballyshannon did respond with a superb individual goal from Faye Gillespie, Kilcar prevailed in this one, 3-7 to 3-11.
Kate Cunningham did well at full back on her return to football, with Roisín Maguire pulling off some big stops during her second stint of the day between the sticks. Further out the pitch Ellen Monaghan was a great creative force, with Elaine Dorrian as dangerous as ever and Caitlyn Gallagher and Eva McNamara giving good support. Katie O'Brien, Faye Gillespie and Aoife Hughes all impressed on their introduction. A special word for the magnificent seven who made their Aodh Ruadh senior debuts on Sunday Sophia Mulligan, Aoife Hughes, Erin McGuinness, Hannah Merrifield, Niamh McGrath, Ellen Monaghan and Faye Gillespie.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Roisín Maguire; Aodhbha O'Donnell, Kate Cunningham, Emer McDevitt; Emily McNamee, Dáirín Sweeny, Jessica O'Mahoney; Fiona McGonigle, Aoife Travers; Ellen Monaghan (0-1), Sarah Daly (0-1), Niamh Hoey; Caitlyn Gallagher (1-1), Elaine Dorrian (1-3), Eva McNamara (0-2, 1f). Subs: Faye Gillespie (1-0) for Caitlyn Gallagher 35 minutes; Katie O'Brien for Niamh Hoey 35 minutes; Caitlin McGuinness for Aodhbha O'Donnell 42 minutes; Aoife Hughes for Sarah Daly 47 minutes; Niamh McGrath for Ellen Monaghan 52 minutes; Amanda Mahon for Fiona McGonigle 57 minutes; Sophia Mulligan for Dáirín Sweeny 57 minutes; Erin McGuinness 60 minutes; Hannah Merrifield 60 minutes; Tara Gallagher for Roisin Maguire 60 minutes.

The adult ladies have a break next week with the next outing seeing the Division 3 ladies travelling to take on Letterkenny Gaels on Sunday, 20th April at 10.30am.

It was a successful start to the season last Tuesday for our under 16s as they edged a 4-7 to 5-7 scoreline against Four Masters. The hard work was done against the breeze in the first half at Tir Chonaill Park when a rampant Aodh Ruadh attack did huge damage. Goals from Niamh Patton, Rachel Gillespie, Ellen Monaghan and Faye Gillespie helped the visitors to a healthy 4-5 to 1-2 half-time lead. The Shamettes were in control for much of the second half too, an early goal from Aoife Hughes stretching the margin between the sides. However, Four Masters continued to battle hard and a late rally saw them coming close to snatching something from the game, but time just ran out on them. The full back line was fantastic in this game with Aodhbha O'Donnell taking care of the main opposition danger woman and getting great back-up from Eabha Rogers and Sarah O'Brien. Well done to Evie McGrath who also did well on her debut in defence. Erin Gallagher's range of kick outs was a massive asset in this game with Ellen Monaghan transitioning possession efficiently through the middle third. In the attack Caitlin McGuinness made light of being out of her defensive comfort zone and gave super support to the attack. A big thank you has to go to Niamh Patton, Cadhla McDermott and Eimear McGonigle who stepped up from under 14 for this game as the panel was a bit short with some players having other commitments on the night. Next up for the under 16s is their first home game of the season which will be against Dungloe in Father Tierney Park this Tuesday at 6.45pm.

Under 8 training continues this Tuesday at 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. We are always delighted to see new faces, so why not come up and join the craic!

Football
The new rules may have seen an outbreak of scoring fireworks in many games to date, but Sunday's Division 2 clash between Aodh Ruadh and Killybegs in Father Tierney Park wasn't to be one of them.
It started with a lot of promise, Jack McSharry leveraging the following breeze to float over a two pointer just a minute in. After that though, the scores would be a lot slower coming.
Aodh Ruadh's first point of the game came five minutes in when Killybegs were penalised for impeding the quick free, and Jack Gallagher tapped over from 13 metres.
That was followed by a glorious effort from Nathan Boyle which slipped just inside the left upright to level matters.
Killybegs edged back in front in the 13th minute with shot from out on the right by Owen Gallagher. That proved to be the Fishermen's last scoring contribution to the half.
The game was squared up heading into the second quarter when Senan Rooney threaded the needle to pick out Kyle Murray, and the corner back drove over.
Not long after the spectators were treated to a duo of long-range wonder-scores from Nathan Boyle as Aodh Ruadh started to take a grip on the game.
The next ten minutes to the break played out in desultory fashion with the only action of note a clash which saw Boyle exit the action with a bad ankle injury.
The visitors had a good start to the second half, Jack McSharry racing through and fisting over, and then Charlie Breslin landing a booming shot to level the game for the third time, five points apiece.
Ballyshannon stepped things up though, and Matt Gillespie was very much to the fore. He got his side back on the front foot with a fine shot just inside the two point arc after a strong bit of fielding on the Killybegs kick out from Kyle Murray.
Then in the 41st minute Shane McGrath won a free, which he opted to tap and go before popping over.
Frees over the next few minutes for Jack McSharry (2) and Diarmaid McInerney made it 0-8 to 0-6 as the tie moved into the final quarter.
Matt Gillespie then thumped over another super point from range and this one really had the feel of a clincher about it, even though 12 minutes remained to play.
Two more frees sealed the result for Ballyshannon, Shane McGrath winning both of them. Diarmaid McInerney converted the first, with Damian Weber marking his senior debut with the second.
That gave Aodh Ruadh a four point win, 0-11 to 0-7, which just about reflected their domination of the proceedings and kept them unbeaten after three games in this campaign.
Peter Boyle was strong under a number of dangerous dropping balls and did well to consistently find his men in challenging conditions. Kyle Murray had a memorable outing, contributing well across the pitch and chalking up a collector's item point. Matt Gillespie and Eamonn McGrath were very much on top in the middle third, with the energetic Senan Rooney supplying good support. In the attack Nathan Boyle was an ornament to the game until his departure through injury, with Darren Drummond soldiering well in his ball-winning role.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Aidan Sweeny, Conor Patton, Kyle Murray (0-1); Darragh Flood Dolan, Eddie Lynch, Eoghan Kelly; Eamonn McGrath, Matt Gillespie (0-2); Senan Rooney, Shane McGrath (0-1), Nathan Boyle (0-3); Diarmaid McInerney (0-2f), Darren Drummond, Jack Gallagher (0-1).
Subs: Eoin Cassidy for Nathan Boyle (inj) 28 minutes; Damian Weber (0-1f) for Diarmaid McInerney 55 minutes; Shane Delahunty for Darragh Flood Dolan 55 minutes.
Head along to aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of shots from the game.

The reserves really sparkled at times in their 1-12 to 0-8 win over the Fishermen, showing up particularly well facing into the elements in the second half.
The first half was slow to get going with the first score coming six minutes in when Shane Gillespie headed down the endline before dishing the ball back for Harry Howarth to pop over.
Three minutes later we had our first green flag, James Gallagher starting a sweeping move from defence which was worked to Barry Campbell who caressed the ball in a shallow arc over the keeper and just under the crossbar.
Killybegs finally opened their account with a free after 14 minutes, but the hosts responded with a Donagh McIntyre dead ball after Ted O'Donnell was fouled.
Killybegs had their first score from play in the 21st minute, but again Ballyshannon responded well. First Donagh McIntyre landed a booming long-ange shot, and then Shane Gillespie stroked over a lovely cultured effort.
The Fishermen grabbed another free just before the break to go in trailing by 1-4 to 0-3.
Aodh Ruadh got the perfect start on the resumption when Harry Howarth collected a divine delivery in and lobbed over. They then won the kick out and Shane Gillespie fairly hammered his shot between the posts. A minute later and Howarth was on the mark again, guiding his shot over with the aid of the upright.
Killybegs first score of the new half came six minutes in with a wind-assisted free, and they then added a two pointer and a well worked score from play to make it 1-7 to 0-7.
Ballyshannon needed to staunch the flow of scores from the visitors and a brave drive by Ted O'Donnell gave them an opportunity which Harry Howarth made no mistake from.
The homesters pressed their advantage after that. An excellent ball out of defence was won by Barry Campbell and he one twoed with Tiernan Flood Dolan before tapping over. Then seconds later Aodh Ruadh were on the attack again and Oran Gillespie showed good technique to steer over.
With eight minutes left Barry Campbell added another lovely point with Daniel Warnock's side really starting to play with some flare now.
Killybegs came back with an answering free, but that was cancelled out when James Gallagher was fouled for a free which Garvey Meade converted for the final scoring action of the game.
A merited five point win for the Ernesiders in the curtain raiser and a lot of positives for the management team to reflect on. Karl O'Brien was steady as ever between the sticks, and the experienced rearguard of Michael Ward, Luke Carr and Oisin Kerr kept Killybegs to scraps in attack. James Gallagher and Ted O'Donnell made good use of their attacking licence with Aaron Cullen keeping the centre of defence under tight control. Shane Gillespie and Tiernan Flood Dolan formed a great combination of muscle and speed in the central third. Up front Barry Campbell was in electric form, while Harry Howarth's four point haul reflected a forward on top of his game, and Donagh McIntyre was also flying until leaving with a knee injury. Oran Gillespie also did well on his introduction, threading over a tidy point.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Karl O'Brien; Luke Carr, Michael Ward, Oisin Kerr; James Gallagher, Aaron Cullen, Ted O'Donnell; Shane Gillespie (0-2), Tiernan Flood Dolan; Garvey Meade (0-1f), Barry Campbell (1-2), Ryan McKenna; Harry Howarth (0-4, 1f), Donagh McIntyre (0-2, 1f), Cian McKenna.
Subs: Oran Gillespie (0-1) for Donagh McIntyre (inj) 43 minutes; Ryan Daly for Harry Howarth 52 minutes; Shane McGloin for Luke Carr 52 minutes.

Next up is the Finner Classico with Aodh Ruadh heading over the hill to take on Bundoran this Saturday. Realt na Mara have no reserves this season, so the seniors are the only show in town for this one with the fireworks starting at 7pm.

The under 16s picked up their first point of the league campaign with a gutsy draw against a physically bigger Dungloe outfit in Father Tierney Park on Monday evening.
The game started with Dungloe raising a white flag just seconds after the throw-in, but Aodh Ruadh weren't long in responding with MJ Ward sending over a free. Five minutes later Ballyshannon raided for the first goal of the game, MJ Ward one twoing with Dara Vaughan before placing his shot to the back of the net. Dungloe came back with a quick point, but the hosts were finding their rhythm now. MJ Ward added a two pointer after a quick 45 to make it 1-3 to 0-2 after ten minutes. Ward then added a free, but Dungloe were able to quickly respond this time. The next two points went the way of the visitors before some knacky play from Darragh McCready saw him slot his side's next score. The Reds rallied before the break to hit a score which left two points between the sides at the turn-around 1-5 to 0-6.
The second half was an evenly balanced affair and again Dungloe were fast out of traps, their danger-man, Rohan Boyle, firing over after 30 seconds. Two minutes later the Gaeltacht men had the ball in the back of the net to retake the lead for the first time since the second minute. Aodh Ruadh worked hard to get back on terms with Eoghan Gallagher sending over a good shot from play before MJ Ward pointed a 41st minute free after a foul on Callum Dorrian to make it 1-7 apiece. Two minutes later Dorrian and Ward reprised their double act, this time for Ward to score from play. With the game now in the final quarter Rohan Boyle restored parity once more. Seven minutes from time it was advantage Aodh Ruadh again after another Ward free. Dungloe finished strong though, hitting two points to nudge back in front, and with Alastair Cian going off on a black card, it was looking dicey for Aodh Ruadh with only a few minutes left on the clock. Once again though they won a free which MJ Ward was able to convert and not long after the whistle sounded on a 1-10 to 1-10 draw. Probably a fair result for both sides.
Keeper Alastair Cian once again had a good display, while Dylan Cullen and Mícheál McGrath got through a lot of good work. Eoghan Gallagher had a strong performance, with Antoin Duffy doing well driving forward with ball. In the attack MJ Ward was his side's main offensive outlet, but Darragh McCready and Eoghan McNulty also caused plenty of problems. We have a gallery of shots from the game live now on aodhruadh.org.
Alastair Cian; Mícheál McGrath, Aaron McLoone, Dylan Cullen; Dara Vaughan, Eoghan 'Blake' Gallagher (0-1), Cole Connolly; Antoin Duffy, Callum Dorrian; Ethan Kerrigan, MJ Ward (1-8, 5f, 1tp), Darragh McCready (0-1); Manus Conlon, Jack Hassett, Eoghan McNulty. Oisín McGrath for Eoghan McNulty 53 minutes.
The under 16s have their first away assignment of the season next Monday when they travel to take on Naomh Conaill at 7pm.

Our under 14s played Naomh Bríd on Wednesday evening in Father Tierney Park. The home team worked extremely hard, and took a strong lead in at half time. However, the Naomh Bríd lads regrouped and played some flowing football in the second half. In other news, we are happy to be announce plans are well under way for the club's first tournament of the season. The under 14 Willie Rogers tournament will take place on bank holiday Monday, 5th May. We will have more details closer to the time. Under 14 training continues at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Mondays and Fridays from 5.30 to 7pm.

Under 10 training continues on Tuesday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 7pm to 8pm. On Saturday the boys will travel to Ballintra for a blitz commencing at 10.30am.

Our under 8 footballers were back in action again this weekend with a well organised blitz with our neighbours Naomh Bríd, with Pettigo also taking part. We had three teams playing with each getting three matches against their local rivals. Thanks to Pete Walsh for hosting, and we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Ballyshannon in the coming weeks. There will be no training on Friday this week, but we will have another game on Saturday.

Hurling
The Aodh Ruadh senior hurlers travelled to Ballybofey with a great squad on Friday evening in search of their first win in the Donegal Hurling League. They got off to a dream start, striking early with a goal inside the opening two minutes. Aaron Cullen lofted a high ball into the square, which slipped through the MacCumhaill's goalkeeper’s grasp, possibly lost in the glare of the bright sunshine.
Buoyed by the early score, Aodh Ruadh kept up the pressure. Caelan Drummond and Senan Rooney added tidy points to give the visitors a strong foothold in the game. For the opening ten minutes, Aodh Ruadh were dominant, controlling possession and winning battles across the pitch.
However, MacCumhaill's gradually found their rhythm. Aodh Ruadh were punished for a defensive lapse midway through the half when a failure to clear the sliotar led to a well-taken goal for the hosts. The game turned increasingly physical from that point, with Aodh Ruadh conceding a series of unnecessary frees, each one expertly dispatched by the MacCumhaill's free-taker.
Despite the mounting pressure, Ryan O’Brien stood tall between the posts for Aodh Ruadh, pulling off several crucial saves, including a superb flick to tip a goal-bound shot over the bar. At the break, the hosts held a 1-9 to 1-4 lead.
The Ballyshannon men came out with intent after the restart, narrowing the gap to just three points within five minutes thanks to well-taken scores from Aaron Cullen and Kieran Kilgannon. Unfortunately, Cullen's night was cut short shortly after, as he was forced off following a heavy challenge.
Aodh Ruadh’s task became even more difficult when Stephen Connolly was shown a red card for a tackle deemed dangerous by the referee. From there, MacCumhaill's made full use of their numerical advantage, tagging on scores steadily and keeping the scoreboard ticking over.
As the game slipped from Aodh Ruadh’s grasp, the final whistle sounded with the Ballybofey men emerging victorious on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-7.
The Aodh Ruadh team were as follows: Ryan O'Brien; Martin Larkin, Adam Rami, Aaron Neilan; Cian McDonald, Ciaran Rami, Stephen Connolly; Senan Rooney, Stephen Anderson; Aaron Cullen, Caelan Drummond, Gareth Sheerin; Cian McKenna, Kieran Kilgannon, Danny Breen. Subs: Kyle McNulty, Jason Patterson, Dara O’Mahoney, Lennon Canny, Killian Bradshaw.
This Friday Aodh Ruadh travel to Burt for their next outing in the Donegal Senior League, throw in at 8pm in Hibernian Park for that one. Then on Sunday there is an interesting local derby in prospect, the Clyhore Classico perhaps, as Ballyshannon make the short trip up the N3 on Sunday to Belleek to take on Erne Gaels in the Ulster Junior League, throw-in at 12 noon.

Commiserations to the Donegal minors who were defeated in their second round Celtic Challenge match by Roscommon on Saturday in The Centre of Excellence, in Convoy. It was great to see a fine representation of Aodh Ruadh players on the panel - Antoin Duffy, Antoin O'Loughlin, Daithi Sheerin, Jayden McGrath Clyne and the twinners, Oisin and Eoghan McCadden. Next up for this team is a third round clash with Mayo in McHale Park on Saturday.

The Aodh Ruadh minors travelled to O'Donnell Park last Thursday to take on Saint Eunan's in their opening game in the all-county League. Following a fairly evenly matched battle, it was the free taking that pretty much decided the game with Aodh Ruadh losing out by four points on the night. Next up, the lads will welcome Burt to Father Tierney on Thursday at 7pm. Best of luck to Mark, Paul and all the team.

Ladies
After a break last week, our adult ladies return to action this coming weekend the Division 3 ladies travelling to take on Letterkenny Gaels on Friday at 7.15pm.

The under 16 girls faced off against old nemesis Dungloe last Tuesday in Father Tierney Park. This group of girls have had some serious battles with the Reds over recent years so this promised to be another tough affair. Both teams started brightly with the Aodh Ruadh defence led by Aodhbha O’Donnell keeping Dungloe to few clear scoring opportunities. Dungloe were two up when an in-form Faye Gillespie struck the first goal of the game. A few minutes later she followed this up with a couple of wonder points. Unfortunately, Dungloe started to find their scoring range and started to get back into match. A goal and a few points from the visitors were answered by Ellen Monaghan with a well-worked goal. Unfortunately, at that point Rachel Gillespie, who was a bundle of energy and the conduit for much of Ballyshannon's positive work, was brought off injured. Dungloe got another goal to end the half 2-3 to 2-6 ahead. The second half started with another goal for Dungloe shortly after the throw-in. Despite all the efforts of Cadhla Gillespie in midfield the Dungloe team learned from the first half and double marked Faye Gillespie and were very economical in front of the posts. A good performance not reflected in the scoreline and some valuable lessons learned for remainder of the season finished 2-4 to 3-13 in favour of the Dungloe girls. This Tuesday the team made the long trip north to take on Na Dúnaibh in a 7.15pm throw-in.

The under 14 girls had their first challenge game of the season on Saturday away to Four Masters. The girls put in a good team performance, as the full squad got plenty of game time, and they came away with a good result. The Aodh Ruadh squad were as follows: Bethany McNamee, Eabha Hegarty, Amy McNeely, Shiloh Killalea, Sophia Hughes, Saoirse O'Donnell, Kayla McDermott, Niamh Patton (0-2), Leia Roper (2-1), Holly O'Neill, Louise Browne (1-2), Emma O'Neill, Emily Gallagher (2-2), Halle McGowan (0-1), Catherine Garvey, Lauren Kane, Sienna Doran, Mia Duffy, Jenna Britton (0-2), Alannah Brennan, Anna Meehan, Aisling Britton (0-3). Training continues for the squad on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5.45pm.

Under 8 training continues this week on Wednesday at 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. We are always delighted to see new faces, so why not come up and join the craic!

Football
Aodh Ruadh had to dig deep to get a share of the points in Gaelic Park on Saturday evening. The Ernesiders had started with a lot promise, Shane McGrath landing an early two pointer before picking out Eoghan Kelly with a super pass which Kelly slammed to the net.
Bundoran raised a green flag themselves shortly after, with a penalty conversion in the fifth minute.
Darragh Flood Dolan fired over an answering point, but two scores in reply had the sides level at 1-3 apiece heading into the second quarter. It was a quarter which saw much perspiration, but little inspiration. Aodh Ruadh slightly edged matters though and a point from Cian Rooney and a Diarmaid McInerney free gave the visitors the edge at the interval 1-5 to 1-4.
Ballyshannon started well again on the resumption with Rooney doubling his tally for the day. Bundoran got an answering point, but a Diarmaid McInerney dead ball kept his sides noses in front.
A two pointer for Bundoran then leveled it at 1-7 each only for McInerney to split the posts once again, this time from play.
The homesters took charge of matters at that point and a run of points saw them move into a four point lead as the final quarter commenced.
Cian Rooney clawed back a point, but Bundoran quickly cancelled that out.
With time running out a McInerney free left a goal between the sides, but it was starting to look like Aodh Ruadh might sink to their first defeat of 2025.
They continued to press their case though and in the dying seconds the ball was loose in the Bundoran area and David Dolan scrambled it to the net to grab a share of the spoils for Ballyshannon. That dramatic score saw it ending Aodh Ruadh 2-10 Bundoran 1-13.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Kyle Murray, Conor Patton, Aidan Sweeny; Eoghan Kelly (1-0), Eddie Lynch, Darragh Flood Dolan (0-1); Eamonn McGrath, Matt Gillespie; Senan Rooney, Shane McGrath (0-2 tp), Damian Weber; Diarmaid McInerney (0-4, 3f), Darren Drummond, Cian Rooney (0-3). Subs: Mark McGlynn for A Sweeney (ht); Shane Delahunty for Rooney (50); David Dolan (1-0) for Weber (57).

This week Aodh Ruadh entertain Ardara in a game which will see the top of the division taking on a clearer complexion. The reserve game will throw in at 5.30pm, with the senior match under way at 7pm.

Well done to Barry Ward's Donegal minors on getting their Ulster Championship campaign under way with a win over Monaghan on Saturday. A special big shout out to our own Joe Gibbions whose three points prior to half-time proved critical as Donegal toughed it out for a 3-10 to 3-8 win in Letterkenny. We wish the Barry, Joe and Gareth Brennan all the best in their next match, which will be against Armagh on Saturday, 3rd May.

The under 16s came out on the wrong side of a high-scoring game in Davy Brennan Park on Monday evening. It finished 7-19 to 4-16 in favour of the Naomh Conaill lads. Aodh Ruadh made the trip to Glenties with one sub to spare, but didn't let that stop them getting stuck in to thing in the first half, running up a 3-7 tally. However, Naomh Conaill were also scoring freely and held a six point lead at the turnaround, having hit 4-10. The Ballyshannon lads started well in the second half and closed to within a point, but Glenties used their physical dominance to hit a few goals and kill off game. Ethan Kerrigan played well in defence with Jack Hassett showing up promisingly in his new role in midfield. In the attack MJ Ward and Callum Dorrian both did a lot of damage. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers was as follows: Alastair Cian; Mícheál McGrath, Eoghan 'Blake' Gallagher (1-1), Alex Kerrigan; Darragh McCready, Cole Connolly, Dara Vaughan (0-1); Jack Hassett (0-1), Callum Dorrian (1-0); Ethan Kerrigan, MJ Ward (1-12, 4f, 2tpf), Dylan Cullen; Eoghan McNulty, Manus Conlon (1-1), Oisin McGrath. Sub: Iarla Hartin for Oisín McGrath. The under 16s are on the road again next Monday, this time Mountcharles is the destination for a 7pm throw-in.

Under 10 training continues on Tuesday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 7pm to 8pm. Unfortunately the blitz in Ballintra last weekend fell foul of the weather. It will hopefully be rearranged for Saturday week.

Well done to our under 8 footballers who had a great game in challenging conditions against Glencar Manorhamilton. Training continues on Friday, with a match again on Saturday. As always, all details will be in the team WhatsApp.

Hurling
The seniors scheduled ties against Burt on Friday and Erne Gaels on Sunday both fell by the wayside last weekend. This Friday Aodh Ruadh will be hosting Buncrana in the Donegal Senior Hurling League at 7.30pm. Then on Sunday the squad are out again in the Ulster Junior Hurling League with Belnaleck the visitors to Father Tierney Park for a 12 noon throw-in.

Hard luck to our minors who lost out to Burt in Father Tierney Park on Thursday. It was a game of two halves with the home side leading for all of the first half and ahead by two points at the break. However, Burt came out full of purpose and stronger in the second half. Aodh Ruadh had a litany of wides and finally lost out by three points. We have a gallery of shots from the game live now on aodhruadh.org. The minors are at home again this week when they welcome Carndonagh to Father Tierney Park.

Commiserations to the Donegal minors who lost out to a stronger Mayo team on Saturday in the third round of the Celtic Challenge. The team will now have a few weeks break from competitive action. Great to see a good Aodh Ruadh contingent on the panel. Well done to the twinners - Eoghan and Oisin McCadden, Antoin O'Loughlin, Antoin Duffy, Daithi Sheerin and keeper, Jayden McGrath Clyne. A shout out for a speedy recovery to Daithi Sheerin after he picked up an injury in the match.

On Wednesday evening, the club will welcome former Cork senior hurling manager and All-Ireland winner Kieran Kingston to Áras Aoidh Ruaidh for a meet and greet session. There will be a presentation to the 2024 under 12 B league winners and all our junior players on the night. Proceedings will start at 6.45pm and all are very welcome to attend.

Underage hurling training for younger age grades continues on Sunday mornings at the usual time of 11.45am on the top pitch at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The under 12s also have a 5.45pm slot on Tuesdays. New players are welcome, with hurls and helmets supplied. The next few weeks would be an ideal time to start as we refresh the basics at each age bracket. If you would like your child to have the opportunity to play our national sport, contact the appropriate manager below:-
Under 6s: Kevin Loughlin – 086-3062209
Under 8s: Stephen Sheerin – 086-8616927

Under 12s: John Larkin – 086-1076883

Ladies
The Division 3 ladies were in Dave Gallaher Park on a torrential Good Friday evening to take on Letterkenny Gaels. The pitch had held up surprisingly well, but the constant downpour, and the swirling, biting breeze made it a miserable evening to play a game of football. The scores in the first half reflected conditions which favoured the defence. The hosts got their first score four minutes in, a three pointer. Meanwhile, Aodh Ruadh had to wait nine minutes for Ciara Larkin to send over her side's first score. That was followed a minute later by a sharply taken effort by Elaine Dorrian. The Gaels then raised their first white flag, before a surging run by Rebecca McLaughlin tore a hole in the Letterkenny defence. The centre back deftly fed Elaine Dorrian and she slotted her shot calmly to the back of the net.
The Shamettes didn't have long to celebrate though, with Letterkenny striding straight up the pitch and netting their second goal of the evening.
There were only two scores over the course of the second quarter. The first of those was another Dorrian point from play, and that was followed the stroke of half-time by a free which dropped into the net just beyond the grasp of the keeper. That gave the Ernesiders a narrow lead at the break, 2-1 to 2-3.
Ballyshannon had the backing of the wind in the second half, but it took them time to make it count against a game Letterkenny side. The third quarter continued the pattern of the second, with few scores. The first couple of those went the way of Aodh Ruadh, Cadhla Dolan and Elaine Dorrian delivering the goods. Letterkenny struck back with a 44th minute goal which made it 3-1 to 2-5. That was to be the homesters last scoring contribution to the tie, but they continued to make life difficult for their guests.
Nevertheless, points from Dolan and Dorrian were followed by the score of the game, a mesmerising hand passing move after Aodh Ruadh won the kick out which was clipped to the net by Caoimhe Hughes O'Brien. Elaine Dorrian was then halted illegally in the area for a penalty which was expertly dispatched by Cadhla Dolan to the bottom corner. Dolan then tagged on a free before Roisin McGloin raided up the pitch for a point. That was followed by a brace of points from fellow sub Faye Gillespie, the second of those an exquisitely judged effort from a difficult angle. The light was fading fast as the referee called time on a good victory for the Ballyshannon girls on a scoreline of Letterkenny Gaels 3-1 Aodh Ruadh 4-11.
An excellent all-round performance from Aodh Ruadh. Síofra Hughes and Rebecca McLaughlin did great work carrying the ball out of defence. Anna-Lisa Rabbitte and Caoimhe Hughes O'Brien formed a formidable midfield partnership. Up front Elaine Dorrian's 2-4 haul was a testament to her movement and accuracy, while Cadhla Dolan and Faye Gillespie also made hay on second half introduction against a tiring Gaels defence.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Roisín Maguire; Síofra Hughes, Kate Cunningham, Jessica O'Mahoney; Fiona McGonigle, Rebecca McLaughlin, Megan Murphy; Caoimhe Hughes O'Brien (1-0), Anna-Lisa Rabbitte; Aoife Travers, Ciara Larkin (0-1), Aoife Bromley; Niamh Hoey, Elaine Dorrian (2-4), Caoimhe Devine. Subs: Roisin McGloin (0-1), Cadhla Dolan (1-3, pen 2f), Hannah Merrifield, Niamh McGrath, Clíodhna Kerr, Faye Gillespie (0-2), Tara Gallagher, Aoife Hughes, Caitlin McGuinness, Emily McNamee, Erin McGuinness, Cadhla Gillespie, Aodhbha O'Donnell, Ellen Monaghan.

Next up for the ladies is a Father Tierney Park double-header on Sunday, 4th May. The Division 1 ladies get the action under way at 10am with Saint Naul's the opposition. That is followed by the Division 3 games at 11.30am where Aodh Ruadh will be facing Burt.

The under 16 girls made the long run to Downings last Tuesday. Possibly the drive took its toll as the girls were slow to get up to the pitch of the game in the first half, coming in at the break behind on a scoreline of 3-4 to 1-5. The goal from Aoife Hughes helped to keep them in touch. However, after the break a few changes were made including the introduction of Eabha Rogers and Cadhla Gillespie who both helped inspire a second half come back. The girls ran out winners at the final whistle, out-scoring the hosts by 19 points to one, with five goals coming in quick succession. A very much improved second half that puts the girls in good stead for the remainder of the league. Next up for the under 16s is the visit of Naomh Conaill to Father Tierney Park on Tuesday, 29th April.

Well done to Jenna Britton and the Donegal under 14s who claimed a narrow 2-8 to 3-4 victory in the Ulster Gold final against Monaghan in Garvaghey last Saturday.

The under 14s continue their pre-season preparations with a couple of challenge games in the coming week. First up are Four Masters in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Saturday with the action getting under way at 11am. Then on Monday, 28th April they are away to Kinlough at 7pm.

Last Tuesday the under 12s had a very competitive blitz against Melvin Gaels in Kinlough. 28 girls lined out for us and played two highly entertaining matches. Robyn NcNamee and Ava McCaffrey were ferocious in defence with Eire Browning and Cara Grimes running strong in midfield and some lovely points scored by Leah Dolan and Aisling Britton. Next up is a home blitz against Four Masters on Saturday morning.

Under 8 training continues this week on Tuesday at 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. We are always delighted to see new faces, so why not come up and join the craic!

Football
SENIORS TO THE FOUR AGAINST ARDARA
Aodh Ruadh got a big win against Ardara in Father Tierney Park on Saturday evening, but they had to dig deep to see off a resilient Pearse Park outfit.
This was to be a high-scoring encounter, particularly in the second half. The first certainly started with a bang, Ardara launching over a two pointer, only for Aodh Ruadh to charge up the pitch where Eoghan Kelly launched himself bodily toward goal to get a fist to the ball and direct it to the net.
An Ardara point was then matched by a shot from Shane McGrath which flashed just over the bar. Six minutes in there was a goal between the sides when Peter Boyle was brought up to hammer a 45 metre free over the bar for a two pointer which made it 1-3 to 0-3. Then the lead was stretched after Diarmaid McInerney sent over a free after a foul on Matt Gillespie.
When Shane McGrath muscled his way through two tackles and sent over a beautiful shot off his left boot it looked like Aodh Ruadh were really motoring. Curiously though, that 12th minute effort was to be Ballyshannon's last scoring contribution to the first half.
Ardara took charge of matters from that point, hitting an unanswered 1-5 to go in at the break with a 1-9 to 1-4 advantage.
Aodh Ruadh needed a good start to the new half, but it was Ardara who landed the first point two minutes in.
Cian Rooney was to have a super 30 minutes, and served notice early, working a one two from a free before popping over. Ballyshannon then won the kick out and David Dolan worked his opening well before firing over.
A minute later David Dolan turned the Ardara kick out again and passed to Darragh Flood Dolan who picked out Shane McGrath and he found the net at the second time of asking. Parity didn't last long though as Ardara came back straight away with an answering point.
The green and gold then added a free and a two pointer to make it 2-7 to 1-14.
Right on cue Aodh Ruadh rustled up another goal. This one was created by a driving run from Eoghan Kelly which was halted aggressively, but the ball spilt to Cian Dolan and he sends it across the face of goal for brother David to flick home.
Ardara kept their noses in front with a technical free from 20 metres in the 42nd minute, but Aodh Ruadh were starting to play with more energy than their opponents.
The first dividends came when Cian Rooney sent over when the goal might have been on. Then Eddie Lynch put an earlier miss behind him to guide over a quality score.
Eoin Cassidy managed to nudge his side into the lead, but a 47th minute Ardara free made it all-square, 3-10 to 1-16 to set up a tense final ten minutes.
It was the Ernesiders who made the first break for front with a lovely move started by Shane McGrath who linked with Eddie Lynch and he off-loaded to Eamonn McGrath who checked back before popping to the net.
Five minutes later Darragh Flood Dolan did brilliantly to field a long ball in, passing off to David Dolan who stroked over a quality shot. Not long after Cian Rooney came out strongly to win the ball from Shane McGrath. McGrath took the return and fisted over.
Next it was Darragh Flood Dolan who was provider for Rooney who sent over a collector's item right foot shot. The last say of the game went the way of Ardara, but Ballyshannon had done enough and the 4-13 to 1-18 scoreline was a fair reflection on the balance of play.
Jimmy Langan will have been heartened to see nine different scorers making the score sheet, as well as by the resilience Aodh Ruadh showed when it looked like Ardara had the whip hand. As ever Peter Boyle's promptings, not to mention his long range free taking, made his side tick. Defensively Darragh Flood Dolan and Eoghan Kelly showed a lot of creative touches. Matt Gillespie and Eamonn McGrath more than held their own against a physically impressive opposition midfield. In the attack, Shane McGrath was in fine form through-out, while Cian Rooney really was in sparkling form as play opened up in the second half. The introduction of David Dolan made a big difference, the big man making life very difficult for the visiting rearguard. Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a gallery of shots from the match live now.
Peter Boyle (0-2, 1tpf); Mark McGlynn, Conor Patton, Kyle Murray; Darragh Flood Dolan, Eddie Lynch (0-1), Eoghan Kelly (1-0); Matt Gillespie, Eamonn McGrath (1-0); Senan Rooney, Shane McGrath (1-3), Diarmaid McInerney (0-1f); Cian Rooney (0-3), Darren Drummond, Eoin Cassidy (0-1). Subs: David Dolan (1-2) for Darren Drummond (inj) 22 minutes; Cian Dolan for Senan Rooney 39 minutes; Barry Campbell for Eoin Cassidy 63 minutes.

RESERVES COME GOOD IN SECOND HALF
The action got under way on Saturday with a game which was illuminated by a glorious display by Barry Campbell. Ardara gave Ballyshannon plenty to chew on, but in Campbell Aodh Ruadh had the ace in the pack.
The homesters could have started with a goal, but after a couple of mis-fires, Philip Patton finally took the bull by the horns and popped over. Three minutes Donagh McIntyre hoisted over a lofted shot just inside the D to double the advantage.
A minute later Campbell gave notice as he made a probing run on goal, but the door was shut and he then swivelled and took his point.
Ardara had a bit of a breeze behind them and they used it to good effect to leap-frog into the lead with two two pointers. It was level in the 15th minute though after Ardara were penalised for a technical foul on the kick out and Philip Patton converted.
The visitors reeled off three points before Cathal Kelly managed to get the ball over the bar after some great build-up play from Philip Patton.
They followed that up when Barry Campbell went on a darting run before dishing off for Odhran McGarrigle to score. Ardara tagged on two more points before half-time though to go in leading by 0-6 to 0-9.
Daniel Warnock's men got a great start to the second half when more a glorious ball from Barry Campbell was fetched by Cathal Kelly, who was then fouled, with Kelly dispatching the resultant free. Four minutes in Ardara found themselves penalised for technical issues on the kick out again and once more Patton administered the punishment.
Ardara responded to push their lead back out to two, but Donagh McIntyre pumped over an instant answering score.
It was at this point that Barry Campbell really turned on the style. He won a ball and went on an elusive run leaving defenders in his wake before stroking the deftest of shots past the helpless Ardara keeper. The diminutive Campbell then won the kick and scorched towards the posts before unselfishly laying off to Odhran McGarrigle who raised a second Aodh Ruadh green flag in a matter of moments to make it Aodh Ruadh 2-9 Ardara 0-10.
The visitors were stunned, but came back well, hitting a rapid two pointer followed by a point. Campbell was still playing on a different level though and he divided the posts with a truly sublime point to take his personal tally to 1-2.
With the game moving into the final quarter Ardara clawed back another couple of points before Cathal Kelly was fouled for a free which Odhran McGarrigle landed without fuss. McGarrigle then followed that up with a hooked shot from play.
Ex-county man Gareth Concarr kept Ardara in the game with another free, but the Ernesiders were in full flow, spreading the play well for Philip Patton to take a good score from play. Then with a minute remaining of normal time Cian McKenna bustled down the end line before sending a ball across the face of goal, Cathal Kelly improvised well, simply volleying to the net soccer style.
That looked to be the clincher, but Ardara found the net a minute into added time to leave just two points between them. And at the death the visitors had a great chance to steal the win, but a phenomenal save by Karl O'Brien saw the ball go out for a 45. That was floated into the Ballyshannon area, but Aodh Ruadh claimed possession and that was enough to secure the victory on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-17.
A fantastic display by the Aodh Ruadh men in this one, with some buccaneering football from the homesters. Karl O'Brien's save at the death was a match-winner, in front of him Oisín Kerr, James Gallagher and Luke Carr stood out in a strong defensive unit. Odhran McGarrigle covered every corner of the park and took some important scores. Philip Patton showed his class every time he was on the ball, but Barry Campbell was simply sensational, both with his creative play and score-taking. Oran Gillespie put in an exceptional display off the bench, getting on a lot of ball, regularly winning possession ahead of physically bigger opponents and never giving a poor pass. Head over to aodhruadh.org where we have a gallery of shots from the game live.
Karl O'Brien; Oisín Kerr, Michael Ward, James Gallagher; James Monaghan, Luke Carr, Ted O'Donnell; Odhran McGarrigle (1-3, 1f), Tiernan Flood Dolan; Garvey Meade, Philip Patton (0-4, 2f), Ryan McKenna; Cathal Kelly (1-2, 1f), Donagh McIntyre (0-2), Barry Campbell (1-2). Subs: Oran Gillespie for Ted O'Donnell (inj) 8 minutes; Cian McKenna for Donagh McIntyre (inj) 27 minutes; Donagh McIntyre for Cian McKenna half-time; Ryan McKenna for Tiernan Flood Dolan 51 minutes; Ryan McKenna for Tiernan Flood Dolan 51 minutes.

Aodh Ruadh are back in Father Tierney Park this Saturday, this time with Cloich Cheann Fhaola as the guests. The reserves are once again getting the day's action up and running at 5.30pm with the seniors following on at 7pm.

AODH RUADH SHARE HONOURS WITH BUNCRANA IN THRILLING CLASH
Aodh Ruadh welcomed Buncrana to Ballyshannon on Friday evening in search of their first win in the Donegal Senior Hurling League. In a fiercely contested and highly entertaining match, both sides produced an excellent display of hurling.
Buncrana were first to register a score after a cagey opening five minutes. Aodh Ruadh responded quickly, with Danny Breen slotting over a well-taken free in the sixth minute. The Ballyshannon men enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, but struggled to convert their dominance into scores, racking up five wides in the opening ten minutes. Kyle McNulty, who put in a monumental shift in midfield, was unfortunate to see his first effort cannon off the upright and out for a wide.
The game burst into life after 16 minutes when Senan Rooney produced a blistering run through the centre, before picking out Aaron Cullen, who buried the sliotar into the top corner of the Buncrana net. Moments later, McNulty added a fine point, with Danny Breen continuing to keep the score board ticking over from placed balls. Aodh Ruadh went in at the break leading 1-7 to 0-6.
Buncrana came out firing on all cylinders after the interval, hitting four unanswered points to cut the gap to a single point. Ryan O’Brien, producing a man-of-the-match performance at half-back, was pivotal in repelling numerous Buncrana attacks. Midway through the half, Aodh Ruadh managed to swing the momentum back in their favour. A long ball into the Buncrana square led to a fumble, and Kieran Kilgannon pounced to flick the ball to the net for Aodh Ruadh’s second goal.
Rather than kill the game off, the goal seemed to ignite Buncrana once again. They pressed hard in the closing stages, picking off points to level the contest. As the light faded in Ballyshannon, the final whistle blew with the sides locked at 2-9 to 0-15. A draw was probably a fair outcome, though Aodh Ruadh will certainly rue the eight wides they recorded in the first half.

ERNESIDERS TOP ULSTER GROUP FOLLOWING GOOD WIN OVER BELNALECK
On Sunday Aodh Ruadh faced Belnaleck in their final Ulster League group game. With Belnaleck only able to field 13 players, it was a very one-sided affair, as the Ballyshannon men dominated all over the pitch. Aodh Ruadh’s strength and depth proved too much, resulting in a convincing 4-12 to 0-9 win that sees them top their group and book a quarter-final spot next Sunday against the runner-up from the opposite group.

Aodh Ruadh are back in action on Friday evening as they travel to Carndonagh for their next fixture in the Donegal Senior Hurling League, with a 7.30pm start down in Inishowen.

KINGSTON GETS ROYAL WELCOME TO BALLYSHANNON
Last Wednesday night in Áras Aoidh Ruaidh we welcomed former Cork senior hurling manager and All-Ireland winner, Kieran Kingston. Kieran was delighted and humbled to be asked to meet and greet our junior players and present prizes to all, and to our 2024 under 12 B League winners.
Kieran praised the work on the ground being done by volunteers and clubs in the promotion and retention of hurling in football dominated counties. He said that Croke Park is trying to develop the game in counties where there is no traditional stronghold, but that the real work is done at club level by small dedicated groups of people. In fact, despite all his glory at county level, some of his greatest memories are with his club, Tracton.
Club chairman, Barry O'Neill welcomed Kieran's insights and mirrored his sentiments by thanking the current group of underage coaches and those that went before them, John Rooney, John Larkin Sr, Billy Finn and Alan Kane, to name a few.
Kieran went on to present all our juniors with their medals and the under 12 B shield to joint captains Emily Ryan and Hugh Mealiffe. Barry then presented Kieran with an Aodh Ruadh senior hurling jersey and an iconic painting by Barry Britton of Ballyshannon as an appreciation of the club's thanks. A lovely evening was rounded off with some tea, treats, autographs, chats and laughs.
Many thanks to Barry and Pauric McShea for organising the event.

UNDERAGE LADIES UPDATES
Well done to Eva McNamara, Rachel Gillespie, Cadhla Gillespie, Paul Gillespie, and the Donegal under 16s who defeated Down in the Ulster championship silver final on Sunday. The under 12 had another great blitz this week against Four Masters, this time at Father Tierney Park. In super sunshine there were two high quality matches for both teams. Amelia McNulty and Grace Bourke were immense in defence against some very nippy forwards. Aoibheann McGarrigle and Ella Dorrian drove on from midfield and Maeve Brennan and Ruth Garvey scored some great points. Training continues every Tuesday at 6.45pm.

Under 8 training continues this week on Tuesday at 6pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. We are always delighted to see new faces, so why not come up and join the craic!

Ulster final 2025
Donegal have fought their way from the preliminary round to the Ulster Senior Championship football final. There they will join their female counterparts for a historic provincial final double-header against Armagh on Saturday, May 10th. Aodh Ruadh are currently awaiting correspondence from the county board regarding the club's ticket allocation and the order process. For this game, we plan to take ticket orders in person and we will arrange a date, time and location for this once we have been briefed by the county board. We are using in-person ordering to ensure there is no confusion and no ticket orders are missed. Only paid up adult members will be eligible to place a ticket order. Those with membership paid prior to the March 31st deadline will take priority as our ticket allocation will be based on these numbers. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all ticket orders will be fulfilled, and we can fully understand any frustration or upset this may cause. Now is perhaps an opportune time to remind members and supporters of the GAA’s Give Respect Get Respect initiative.
